Fine Chocolate Fractal

The black and white design sorta  reminded me of clusters of flowers, in a garden or some such. I did this via dry technique and watercolor pencils. I wanna try wet next time. The high resolution digital version that I did inspired me to take a totally different direction, and it reminds me of a fine chocolate candy, with clusters of nuts, and stripes of caramel.

Hipster Owl

Here is my latest!  From the book "Off the Bookshelf" using Prisma Scholar pencils.  What a character he is!

Under the Sea Part 3

I decided to do this one because @Curious and @iweartanktops already coloured it, and I liked seeing their different takes: http://www.freejinger.org/blogs/entry/1076-under-the-seaalso/.  It took me a while to finish it, though, because I just couldn't decide which colours to use.  This shouldn't have been a big deal, but somehow was (ridiculous).  It's coloured with my trusty prismacolours and my new Sakura metallic gel pens.  Purchased because you guys are a bad influence and your artwork made

Pysanky Easter Eggs

Pysanky Easter Eggs from Ukraine "the designs illustrated on these elaborate Easter eggs are drawn freehand with wax and the head of a pin" I'm starting to realize just how bad my scanner is. Comparing the two, the first image is from my scanner, the second is from my digital camera, which isn't quite true to the original colors either but it's a lot closer than the scanner.

New Millie Marotta book!

I'm very excited to have her new book, 'Wild Savannah'.  I decided to colour this picture first because it's fairly uncomplicated and I only have a set of 12 metallic pencils at hand, having lent out my markers (what was I thinking?).  I used all of these colours but some just look very similar to others, and, although metallicky in person, perhaps a little dull here. I am looking forward to doing another from this book, with my beautiful markers.  I love these books, even if all of the designs

Curious Creatures with Mechanical Cats

Loved colouring this one, my daughter wanted to colour it in as well so I just bought her a copy of the book so she can keep her mitts off mine! I used Sharpies, Stabilo fine liners and Faber Castell connector pens.

Sunburst

This is from the Prism Designs book by MindWare. When I saw the pattern I thought of a sunburst/those images of the sun with the rays coming out.

Curious Creatures Are Back!

We've had company and have also been going every day to help our friend who's recovering at home from a knee replacement so this page has taken a LONG time to finish!  Could only work on it late at night, a little at a time due to being so tired.  But it's finally completed so here it is....let me know what you all think!

Finally Started Secret Garden

So I finally broke open Secret Garden.    Title page done with CraZ Art colored pencils.  Second pick is with a combination of Frixion gel pens and Super Doodle Gels.  Interesting note here - the Frixion are very good in tight places and dry more quickly than the Super Doodles.  The paper of Secret Garden is to my estimation a card stock quality.  The gels don't bleed through (and the page I used them on doesn't have something that requires coloring on the opposite side which was why I was willi

Flowers flowers flowers flowers

I just finished another page from the Magical Garden Dreams book. Took me forever for some reason (I just never wanted to color more than a flower or two at a time), but I'm pretty happy with the result. I think the flowers pop nicely.

Fractal Dragon

I need to work on my blending. Use better pencils and paper as well. =\ I tried to make the indigo less scratchy with a stump, but oh well. This type of fractal is called a "dragon" for the creature it typically reminds one of. It sorta reminds me of a flaming Chinese dragon, with maybe some swirling wind or sky around it? Something like that. I do love how the high-resolution render in Frax turned out though. =) And a brief video render of the colors cycling

Kaleidoscope Mandala

This one makes my eyes go all googly if I stare at it for too long. From 'Art Therapy Mandalas and More.'  I did it with Staedtler fine tip markers and was close to being finished when I screwed up the pattern. So frustrating.

A Creative Cat with Mini Elephants.

This one took me a few days to do but it was worth it.  It is from the Creative Cats book by Creative Haven, I used Marco Raffine 72 count fine art pencils, they are a low end set for artists but I found them great for colouring in. I done the elephants with Derwent metallic pencils.

Mystic Mandala in Gray

Inspiration of this one was a combination of the 2 or 3 gray scale efforts of others here and the March calendar at work (posted here).   CraZ Art colored pencils (platinum, warm gray, mist gray, sterling silver, smoke and black)

Finally Finished this one!

(Full disclosure, I am a little bit tipsy from wine...) This one took me forever to finish. I think I started it about a month ago... and I finally put myself up to the task to finish it.  I just hadn't had the time, with real life and all that.  But tonight, I decided to drink some wine and finish this page!  Here it is!     Edited to add... that I totally forgot to mention that this page is from Enchanted forest, using prisma scholar pencils.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg

In honor of International Women's Day yesterday, I did two RBG coloring pages. I was going to do one, but then some guys I know decided to use the day to make jokes about how the day is unfair to men so I decided to do a second one.

Lions Gotta Stalk...

Here's the latest...a simple page from the Art Nouveau Animals Designs book. Needed to rest my eyes and do an easier, quicker page this time. It was fun! Prismas and Winsor & Newton Promarkers.  Took the photo inside so it's a bit dark...sorry.

A Fishy Mystic Mandala

With my usual CraZ Art colored pencils from the Mystic Mandalas book.   My evening coloring efforts (this is a book I have at work) has been curtailed a bit because of the need to ice my ankle/foot (ice massage rather than using an ice bag).

Tiger Lily Fractal

There is a beautiful fractal app available for purchase on IOS devices that really can honestly be said to be the most sexy-beautiful fractal app in the world. The homepage for the app is at http://fract.al/. I use the iPhone version for portable explorations, and the iPad version for more in-depth art work. It has a Basic version, and a Pro version. Needless to say, the Pro version is 100% worth the modest price tag. Warning: This app will make your IOS device notably warm, and will suck y

My Mom's first page!

She texted me this picture, with a caption saying, "These colored pencils are delightful!"  (She is using the Prismacolor scholar pencils.)  This is her first page!  This "copycat" book has half the page colored in already, and you are supposed to copy it on the other half.  It might be good for some of our colorists who have mentioned they feel somewhat overwhelmed or stressed out by choosing color combos.  She actually got the book for my sister (who has a developmental delay), as well as one

Wishing I had a dollar for every time I burped on my back porch after dark and set off a neighbor's dog. The best part is that I'm sure everyone think it's my BF and not me, because it's surely not possible such a huge noise could come out of my body.
