I'm a colourist!! Colourer? Colourite?

Hello friends, and thank you to Curious for adding me!  I got my grandma a colouring book (Secret Garden) for her birthday in September, and a few weeks ago she started using it. I saw it and went, "Oooh..." and then went out and bought one for myself. I chose 'Enchanted Forest'. I'm using pencil crayons, but I'd like to get a wider variety of colours. Also, this is pretty much the first art-related thing I've done since... high school? I'm definitely not a visual artist. But yeah, I'm addi

My first coloring page

Oh, yay, I'm finally a cult member! So here's the first page I colored. It's felt tip pens, and the page is from the Creative Haven Owls book. I like it.

Bold Mystic Mandala

Okay, so something someone said in the comment about my previous mystic mandala post (something about it reminding them of tiles) stuck.  And when i started this one I went bold and let a Mediterranean vibe of sorts take over.  I cannot put into words the joy?  pleasure?  satisfaction?  this one gave me.  There is one area I'm not 100% on.  I started to do something thinking alternating colors but didn't like the combo and instead of making it worse by adding a third or something, I left that on

A page from 'the time chamber'

This book is by Daria Song. I enjoyed doing this as it was a nice change of pace.  (Maybe overdid the yellow, but I do like yellow.) (Photo seems out of focus.)

The cat in the window

I went on a buying spree and ended up with new crayons, markers and books. I suddenly went from one colouring book to five. I've also discovered audio books and they go hand in hand with colouring (or origami for that matter - another hobby of mine). Anyway, here's a page from Cats by Medmoiselles. And here's the resident kitty inspecting it (he can't resist a good book! :)):

Rainbow Fish!

My latest completed project!  I'm not 100% thrilled with the eyes, but once I'd coloured in the first one (using a marker), there was no going back.  Still using my handy-dandy Prismacolours, which I love.   Edit: Once I posted this, I realized you can see lots of smudges.  Usually I don't have a problem with my Prismas smudging, but I coloured from the outside in, so I guess it was probably bound to happen.  The first round was so fiddly though I'm glad I did it first.

Mystical Mandalas

Okay, so I found a book I forgot about.  And apparently I did/started two of the pictures in it.  Which I may or may not remember doing.  This is from Mystical Mandala Coloring Book (Dover Design Coloring Books, Alberta Hutchinson).  I did sort of remember the bird one.  Actually I think I stopped working on the birds (which comes in the book before the other one which was more or less finished as you see it) because quite frankly, I find the birds a bit creepy.  They don't give a vibe of being

Santorini

This is from a book my husband bought for me (pics to follow). Challenge #1: the artist's drawing style makes it very difficult to figure out what's what. Challenge #2: I didn't want to leave any white space so I used some pale, washed-out colours to suggest white buildings. I took liberties with colour but still wanted it to have the right flavour, if you know what I mean.  Most of this is Prisma markers.      This is the book and an example of most of the pages'

My new coloring book!!!

Here is a page from the new book I got! It's called Off the Bookshelf and it was ordered on Amazon. This book is so fun and whimsical, and I can't wait to dive more into it.

My first coloring post: Hermione

She's ago I got a 300-page Harry Potter coloring book (images from the first 6 films) that I never colored much. So here is the first picture I completed! The opposite side has Harry and Ron, which I will probably post soon. I also got the new coloring book, so yay!

Scarf pattern and other animals

The same specs apply as the previous post: from Colouring Therapy Art Book and low quality markers (they're so generic that there is no manufacturer name or anything in the package). Posting these back to back  I see  I got a little boring  with the color schemes.

The newest cat in our cult

I got new colored pencils!!! They were supposed to be a Christmas present, but they were backordered, and they arrived this week. I was so excited to color with them.  Presenting..... A Creative Cat! I love the way it turned out. and here are the pencils I used. (Prismacolor scholar)

This is from Secret Tokyo, in soft pastel (/a little oil pastel). I wanted to try something completely different, and I'm really, really happy with the way it turned out.

Better Late Than Never- Christmas Edition

I started these three before Christmas but never got around to finishing them. So I got them done on Tuesday when we had a snow day. The first tree is done in gel pens; in the second the tree is colored pencil with the ornaments and presents in gel pen and the mandala is all in colored pencil. This was my first time using the crayola twistable colored pencils and I"m not totally sure I like them. They seem fine for large designs, but they aren't fine enough for the little stuff like in the manda

This is another page from the Artist's Edition of Secret Garden, done with colored pencils. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out.

A Page from Balance

I've been working on this one all week. Such tiny sections that require great precision. Very time consuming. Colored  using my Tombows. When the shape doesn't inspire a color pattern, I pretty much always go with rainbow patterns. I'm obsessed with rainbows.

I'm SO far behind on threads...

...but my new markers arrived yesterday!  So I've been colouring for a change. (But, I also cleaned the house today, which was excruciating!) This is a page from the Secret Garden Artist's Edition, which is beautiful to colour on. It is very thick stock and the pages are one-sided and removable, as they are intended to be framed.  And I used some of @Tikobaby's beautiful Orchid for the first time!!! But there are lots of colours I love in this. It is Prismas and W&Ns and the background

Learn to love streaking

These are from Colouring Therapy Art Book. I used cheap generic markers that have Cars characters on them. They've got  a nice set of shades I think but everything becomes so streaky. It's impossible to color over the same area twice because they break the surface of the paper. I'm telling myself it's an effect and not a flaw. Oh well, at the price you can't get anything too good.  My 7 year old art critic said the skull looks creepy and it would look better in black and white.

Notes From The Universe

Two pages from Notes From the Universe coloring book.  I bought this one when I got the Louise Hay book.  printed on two sides, but this one has perforated pages.   I've migrated this book to my work stash since I like to self-calm and color during lunch.  CraZ Art colored pencils.   The turtle background has a bit of blue colored pencil lightly over it in two shades of blue in a kind of scribble pattern.  Not sure you can tell.    The second page has wording on it.  Oops on the lack of foc

Very Curious Creatures!

Here's the first page I've done from my new Creative Haven coloring book, Curious Creatures.  Colored with Prismacolor, Copic Sketch, Winsor & Newton, & Staedtler fineliner markers.  I really like the whimsical designs in this book!

Compass

I made this one a few days ago.  And I'm super excited because after I finished this, my new colored pencils came! So the next picture I am working on is a cat using those pencils. The pencils I have been using up until now are a mix of crayola and anything else I had lying around.

The Others

Done with a combination of Sharpie pens, fine tip pens, gel pens, and the Tombow markers.  I plan on filling in the white spaces of the first and third ones with a light grey to add some contrast. The third one is the one I colored on the plane to and from Vegas last week.
