Yoga Kitty

Here's my latest page that I've managed to finish. I actually really like this book, the pictures aren't difficult but it's cats doing yoga! I can't resist. I colored this with my trusty gel pens but I'm getting jealous of the fancy markers everyone else has and am going to break down and buy some. I've heard Prismacolor, Copic, and Windsor & Newton being used by people here. Any advice to a newbie on which is best? I do like a really fine tip.

Would you like to colour this in?

A friend sent me this picture asking me the question in the title of this post.  It is a lovely wallpaper and I think if I had it on my walls it would be really hard not to pick up my pens and pencils to colour it in.  Might take me a wee while to get it done tho lol.

Wolf Pup

With some trepidation, I post this little doodle I did.  I mostly just (attempt to) draw little cartoony animals and I rarely color them or even get them out of the "rough" stage.   I was looking through my drawing journal and came across this little guy that was actually finished.   This picture sucks because I had to use my tablet.   I'm going to have to give up and charge the batteries for my real camera, I think.

WIP blue squirrel & short blending tutorial

I'm working on this blue squirrel. See that one lone colored leaf down there? I made a short picture tutorial on how to color that leaf, since I was asked in my last post  it's very short and easy!    We are going to color this leaf: First, choose your colors. I'm using apple green and dark green. They don't have to be the same color family but different hues, but it does make it a lot simpler--if you go from red to blue, for example, you'll need a transitional color i

Winter

This is my first one with colored pencils. I don't really have the patience to color it in very nicely. But I still like it.

Whimsical Cat Girl

I got a new book on Saturday and had to start a picture from it right away. It is Whimsical World #2, Fairies, Mermaids, Witches and More by Molly Harrison. The pictures are very simple to colour but so cute. I wanted a book that was easy to use and not too intricate for my new pencils. I got Derwent Inktense 72 count and I used them on this picture. They can be washed over with water to give the colour an ink look, I haven't tried that yet as I like this pic with just the pencil colour.

When Pigs Fly...

Haven't posted one for awhile...so much going on around here.  Here's my latest from Curious Creatures. I love the cars and planes!  Am now working on one from the Owl book.

What's with me and elephants?

Well, this is my first in months!  It's from the new Johanna Basford book, Magical Jungle. I chose this picture because it is simple. The toucan doesn't blend in to the sand (? in the jungle?), as much in real life; they are different colours. I used all Copics, probably about twenty.  I wasn't going to post it as it is certainly nothing special but, obviously, I decided to anyway.  I'm happy to be back at it though!

Welcome to FJ Colorists Unite

Welcome to the new Free Jinger blog by members for members.   We have a pretty enthusiastic group of colorists here on FJ and after seeing the interest in coloring and talking to a few members, I decided to start this blog for members to post on rather than putting their own coloring projects in comments on my (mostly) coloring blog or various threads where they may get lost. This blog is for anyone that colors to post their finished pages, works-in-progress, tips, ask for help or really anythi

Very Curious Creatures!

Here's the first page I've done from my new Creative Haven coloring book, Curious Creatures.  Colored with Prismacolor, Copic Sketch, Winsor & Newton, & Staedtler fineliner markers.  I really like the whimsical designs in this book!

Venting about...

Crayola colored pencils. I bought them a while ago, & they performed as expected (decent color coverage/color selection in the package); for the most part, that is, until I started to sharpen them. As I would sharpen them, chunks of the lead would fall out (of the freshly sharpened body of the pencil itself), which would lead to my usage of colorful metaphors & threats of throwing said pencils in the garbage. It's surprising to me; you'd think that Crayola (a major, national brand s

Under the Sea...also

When I was looking through old posts to find the seahorses that @iweartanktops6 had done, I saw that she posted another one I recently colored, so I decided to post that one here as well. Here is her version: And here is mine: This is from Lost Ocean and was done in gel pens.  Again a picture with the washed iphone, so not the greatest picture.   I really need to get my good camera f

Under the Sea Part 3

I decided to do this one because @Curious and @iweartanktops already coloured it, and I liked seeing their different takes: http://www.freejinger.org/blogs/entry/1076-under-the-seaalso/.  It took me a while to finish it, though, because I just couldn't decide which colours to use.  This shouldn't have been a big deal, but somehow was (ridiculous).  It's coloured with my trusty prismacolours and my new Sakura metallic gel pens.  Purchased because you guys are a bad influence and your artwork made

Under the Sea

I found this, halfway completed, over the weekend. I finished the last few touches tonight. I think this is one of my favorite pages so far. I just love the way it turned out.  It's another one from Joanna Basford's, Lost Ocean. I used Fiskar's gel pens and Gelly Roll pens.

Un Papillon

I colored this two nights ago. I've been coloring regularly again, and it's fun! I actually have a couple of pages to post.  It's kind of at a weird angle. I photographed it this way to catch the light better.  This page is from Home Sweet Home , by Steve Duffendack.

Two Travelling Cats!

Here's my latest...finally got it completed.  I really like the way it turned out and think it's one of my favorites.  Everyone probably knows that this one is from the Creative Cats book by Creative Haven.     Colored with Prismacolor & Copic Sketch markers, Winsor & Newton ProMarkers, and Staedtler triplus fineliners.   I just received a new coloring book called Fantastic Animals and am trying to decide what the next project will be.

Two pages from "Garden Dreams"

I have two new pages today, both of them from the "Magical Garden Dreams" book. The first one I did really quickly (two hours, tops) in Stabilo point 88 pens because I needed a change. I think it's fun! The second one's a peacock, which I think turned out great. I used colored pencils for that one.

Two New Pictures!

I have some new pictures to show off! First up is a Creative Cat going for a dip in the ocean.  I think this page is so cute.  I just wish I hadn't made the inner tube a dark green, because it doesn't pop against the blue of the ocean.  Other than that, I like this page.   This one is from Enchanted Forest.  I put those color pencils to block out my name, lol.  I didn't want to make all the leaves green, but I'm not sure how I feel about some of the unusually colored leaves.

Tricycle Cats/Pampered Pets

Here's my latest completed page from the Pampered Pets book.  This is unedited except for cropping and adjusting exposure/saturation/temp. for the overall photo so it matches the original page. Prismacolor Premier brush tip marker colors are:  Spanish Orange, Parma Violet, Emerald, Canary Yellow, Goldenrod, Sienna Brown, True Blue, Pink.  Copic Sketch marker colors are: Lipstick Red, Lettuce Green, Yellowish-Green, Chrome Orange, Baby Blue, Lightning Yellow. Winsor & Newton ProMarker colors

Tree House

I colored this last night while waiting for Law & Order: SVU, Duggars!  I find that these detailed coloring pages really help me with anxiety. They force me to really slow down and focus.  I used Fiskar's gel pens for everything except the tree trunk and branches. For the tree I used a brown Prismacolor colored pencil. This is from Joanna Basford's, Secret Garden.

Travel Coloring

I'm on a trip right now and I didn't have room to pack my coloring supplies. During my phone session with my therapist, she told me I needed to get to the store and purchase some. I found this kit at Target, and I have to share with you all!  One side has 50 illustrated cards to color, and the other side has 10 colored pencils.

Toucan Sam

From Millie Marotta's Animal Kingdom postcards.  I'm very happy with the way he turned out!  I wanted to make him look realistic so I had to do some creative blending - somehow I managed to lose my orange pencil crayon.  Since I coloured (most of) him on a long flight, this also resulted in me peering at google images saved on my phone.  Because of course I couldn't just do it from memory or be creative haha.  A superkeener moment, I know, but at least I wasn't colouring in the dark using my iph

Top Hat Cat/Creative Cats Book

My latest effort from the Creative Cats coloring book...my favorite book so far.  Prismacolor, Winsor-Newton, and Staedtler fineliner markers. Just got the owl book by the same artist and am working on a page in the NatureScapes book right now.

Wishing I had a dollar for every time I burped on my back porch after dark and set off a neighbor's dog. The best part is that I'm sure everyone think it's my BF and not me, because it's surely not possible such a huge noise could come out of my body.
