I Might be a Wee Bit Moody

I might be moody.  Or angry.  Or annoyed.  Or something.  I woke up this way last Friday.  Yesterday was better.  I thought, oooh maybe the mood is waning.  Yeah - no.  Today it is back in full force.  So I'm here.  Door to the office closed for the safety of others.  I've tried analyzing where this came from.   I do have one source.   I've been reluctant to discuss it because people will come, read, and do the, as Cousin K puts it, 'socially acceptable' response.  Which doesn't do much for

My Wand Must be Broken

It might be that I'm grumpy today.  It might be the alignment of the stars.  Or it could be that the magic wand everyone thinks I have is broken.  And the bag of tricks is also empty should anyone care.  I also don't read minds (most of the time).   In no particular order I've dealt with: A request to fix an alleged costing issue that is causing a billing issue.  However said part does not belong to me.  Now right now I'm covering a position at another plant.  I would therefore handle

Run. Hide. Fight (video)

I'm doing training at work and one of the subjects is violence in the workplace.  This video was in the training.  It is what to do in an active shooter situation.   I'm sad to report that when I went to share this with a group of my very close Facebook friends that I consider chosen family.  One of them had just reported an active shooter situation in San Diego.

Sold! (More Adventures in Mom's Car)

So, I've sold Mom's car!  Yay!  For less than it's value.  Not concerned.  This might have been an easier and more profitable adventure had the car been where Mom lives or where I live.  However that last adventure Mom took in the car landed the car in Springfield, MO.   About 3 hours from me.   And Three (!!!!!!!) from Mom (and actually she finally stopped in Mansfield, MO I believe).  I have cousins in SE Kansas where Mom is originally from.  I love my cousins.  They totally bailed me out on t

Wait? Does That Make Her A...

So, I've had an odd moment where those things that fascinating me in a train-wreck can't keep watching kind of way meets what we'll label here as my real life.   Almost six years ago I moved because I had lost my job and the economy was crap and I put my trust in God and decided, since I don't have children or husband tying me to one place, to take my job search nation wide.  i wound up 2.5 or so hours east of where I had been in a neighboring state.  After I moved at one point I went throu

When You Have Time...

So, I was asked to run a report for our tax curmudgeon.  I do this a couple of times a year for the platform.  It's not hard.  Minorly time consumptive because the number of materials involved plus the number of plants necessitates running it 3 times to keep the thing from bombing out.  I thought I was done for the year.  Dopey me.  Tax Curmudgeon asked me to do it 'when I had time.'  Now I'm in the middle of something else.  Actually, possibly two or three something else's at any given time.  S

If It Please The Court (Mom related)

So, as part of being court appointed guardian and conservator of my mother, I have to fill out a report each year.  Actually, two because there is a guardianship report and a conservator report.  The guardianship isn't that bad, answer a series of questions about how she is and when you last saw her, where she is living and such.  Then sign.   The conservatorship report is another story.  I am grateful I am an accountant.  Because my excel and technical skills allow me to, within limits, be

Almost Time To Bid Adieu To Mr. Cranky Pants

I just realized that for the first time in over five and a half years I'm actually excited to begin royalty calculations.  I know, I know, but No, I don't need my head examined. Allow me to explain.  We have a person we pay royalties to (actually we are now up to 4, but I never hear from the others - needless to say - I like the others) who to call him Mr. Cranky Pants is being kind.  I've been told I was kind for this description.  I can refer to him around her by that name and a lot of fo

In Business For 2016

Okay, so just in time for the utter end of the year, we got our Dealer's License certificates from the state for another year.  Yes folks, I Deal.  Sort of.  This is a dandy requirement (file this under 'things not covered in any accounting class I took in college')  for my present employer, specifically our plant so that we can sell tool trailers to utility companies.  It is only one of lots of other things we sell.  This year I think we sold 8.  Last year was a banner year of 31 (and not ordin

And Away She Goes

Let’s talk your parent with dementia and what’s referred to as ‘running.’     My mother, until I put her in memory care, was a runner.  I found out the hard way.  Actually, Mom and running is why I put the pieces together and discovered that something more than ‘she’s old and her memory is fading’ was wrong to begin with.  I received a call in May 2014 from a deputy with the Douglas County, Kansas Sheriff’s Department.  I’ll be forever grateful.  He had the wisdom to get my information

Bing & Bowie

Last year, Christmas was very difficult.  I'm a bit better this year.  The 'tree' is up.  And I can tolerate certain Christmas Carols.  it is still hard.  But I'm enjoying the bits I can handle.     A friend posted this video on Facebook.  A blast from the past.  Bring Crosby & David Bowie.  Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth.  Circa 1977.  I remember this special.  Although at the time I was clueless as to who Bowie was.

The "Problem" with Current Song Lyrics (including a Home Free video)

I have to share this.  I love Home Free - a Country A Capella group.  I've seen them live.  The 2016 tour dates for the first half or so of the year have been announced and they're coming to my city.   This is a video from one of their shows - but it is not music.  It's story time with Tim.  And he's reciting lyrics.  One from a 25 year old song.  and another from that current song.  (Austin is on the right with all the hair doing dance moves, Rob has glasses, Chris is in the hat.  Adam is

My Monkeys Fly

I've got one of those things going at work right now.   One of those areas I audit.  Only they've changed corporate policy and there has been a huge crack down.  So after the Controller had a meeting (that I happily was not part of) and gave everyone the new status quo of only in an emergency are you allowed to do that - I am now in the roll of clean up from old policy and and enforcement of new.  Naturally people cannot follow directions.    By now these people really should have some of t

Your Parent's Finances (lessons learned from becoming my mother's keeper)

This is cross posted here:  Worried Children Sharing Circle Okay while I wait for a really large spreadsheet to recalculate.  I'll do a brief fly by on my knowledge of elder related things to deal with.   POA (power of attorney) - you need two.  One health.  One financial.  If both parents are living I recommend having them anyway for both in case something happens to one.  If you suspect or are worried about dementia - going to say it here - get the POA prior to the diagnosis.  Because after

I Know It's Around Here Somewhere!

So, some months ago - probably July?  August?  When i glanced at the calendar and went ooh yeah November.  What are you going to write.  I had a few thoughts.  One thought was an ongoing, growing idea about a fundie cult with eleventy kids each that live on a compound (no really, where did that idea come from?  and based on that why would I be loitering about the interwebs with you folks?  I have no clue).  At that time I thought, you know you did some background work on character H at one point

I win!

I have officially validated my novel.  It is, to be nice, crap.  But it is my crap.  Granted it will not see the light of day.  That is not what this exercise was about.  I've needed to get back to my writing.  At some point while struggling with this group of characters in search of a plot (thank you for that line Dave Berry) I found myself missing and thinking about what I've dubbed the 'novel that won't go away.' and plan on returning to it     While I work on getting that one printed out (t

Census Reporting

So today I thought I was going to plunge into my favorite work duty this time of year, double checking standard costs for next year.  But no.  I walk past my mailbox, see an envelope and someone from Corporate has sent me a census form.   I have no one but myself to blame for my doing these.  Not just for my plant, but for the platform I work in.  You see back in 2011 or so the bosses said to me:  hey, would you mind taking the census reports from grumpy tax accountant and getting them taken ca

Nanowrimo - mid month update

First off, my new interest here at FJ is Miss Raquel   - to the extent that I am following her at nano (buddy lists!), twitter and her blog.  Devious mystery/suspense writer that I (usually) am, I can feel the beginnings of a character forming.  Antagonist if you really want to know.  Yes, there are benefits to writing darker, twistier things.  One of them being, if you annoy me (or in this case intrigue me in some way) I can spin you off and kill you.  We'll file this tidbit under 'stress relie

Music Found on youTube While Waiting for the Rodriques House Tour Video

Since Jill is taking such a SEVERELY long long LONG time getting that house tour together (no, really Jill nobody cares about the printing).  I thought I would share some of my worldly distractions (Jill, really, take a look below and you'll see that I should not be left unattended on YouTube for this long).   Ooh a new video by Halestorm.  I Am The Fire And Jill - thank you for the delay on that house video because finding Ville Valo of HIM in this version of Wicked Game was awesome!   Ho

You're A Mean One...

I am not really a Christmas person.  It might have helped had I had children.  Maybe even a spouse.  But with a sister (also single and childless) over a thousand miles away (and currently hiding under a rock or something) and a mother who now has a dementia diagnosis (put her in memory care back in June) the season is a giant ball of meh.  Oh I can fake it.  But over the last several years really I have chosen to stop faking it.   For me, Christmas is the height of what I've long called the da

The Joys of Humidifiers

I've declared it that time of the year.  The time when I drag out a humidifier and fire it up.  I find, based on a decade (or more) of experience that I need one at work more than at home.  The issue however has been to find one that is small and quiet.  At my psychiatrist's office last March (trust me, me on anti-depressants is much better for all involved than me unmedicated).     Air-O-Swiss Small Humidifier One upside down water bottle.  No filters.  Another - we have  no kitchenette where

The Sound of Silence

Someone mentioned the song The Sound of Silence in a post a couple of days ago.  Complete with a photo of Michelle Duggar.  Now I have one of those brains that comes complete with a mental jukebox.  I may be able to trace this to  my mother who had a song for just about any situation.   If you think that what came to mind when I read "The Sound of Silence" was Simon and Garfunkel - you would be wrong.  Because I am a metal head.  Oh I have a wide and varied taste in music.  But my metal head se

NaNoWriMo

Since it was brought up on the board and I saw that some folks didn't understand it.  I decided to blog about it. Hi, I'm a Nanowrimo participant this year.  My first year was, I think, 2005.  I won that year.  Meaning I completed 50,000 words in 30 days.   Yes, on one (rather bad) project.  I did it to see if I could.  In other years I have crashed and burned out the gate.  And in others not even attempted.  Normally I think about it.  Some years are better than others.  I have documented wins

Soul Portrait

Yay another blog for me to start and ignore later (sad but true).   I spoke briefly in the What Do you Identify with philosophically thread of my beliefs.  A couple of months ago I commissioned a small soul portrait from an artist Wendy Smith Sedona Soul Portraits or here https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002617003936&fref=ufi  I 'found' Wendy through one of my cousins (get used to that phrase.  Mom was 6th of 9 and although not all her siblings had children, there are 14 of us in

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

      Giraffe

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?
