Coloring with Mom

Last Saturday I stopped by for a visit with my mom.  It was a really good visit.  Or as good a visit as one can have when the person you are visiting is no longer the person you knew, has memory issues, mobility issues and the like.   I finally tried something I had wanted to for some time.  We colored together.  Due to time constraints (mine) we didn't finish the project (and next time I would have us coloring on different pages).  But we did some coloring with my trusty Crayola twistables

Rally Jr Back in KC

http://www.kansascity.com/sports/mlb/kansas-city-royals/article96531897.html#storylink=fb_staff Looks like Rally Jr is back in KC.  With a proper home/carrying case and improved instructions for care.  (Meaning they're feeding him).  And yes, the Royals are back to winning with Rally Jr in tow!  And yes, I'm still amused by the entire praying mantis mascot saga.

Rally Mantis and Music Loveing Kittens

Okay - I am not a baseball fan.  But the ongoing story of Rally Mantis - a praying mantis rescued from the trash by a KC Royals player in the dugout a week or so ago that is now a good luck charm/mascot of sorts is amusing me.  Rally Mantis is now going on the road with the Royals.  Yay Rally Mantis.  http://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/for-petes-sake/article95260647.html And yes - I think Praying Mantis are interesting.  To this day I feel bad for not pulling over one d

First They Came

Today's landscape has me thinking about one of my favorite poems.     First They Came (I could be wrong about the title) - Martin Niemoller.    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came_... I've been aware of this quote for a long time.   It still echoes in my heart.

Traveling with a Grown Kindergartner (Breakfast)

Now that I have made Boss 1 and Boss 2 laugh at my stories of eating with Boss 3 (they have both had the experience of traveling with this man) it is time to share it with you. We all know that Boss 3 has an attachment to certain chain restaurants.  it borders on legendary.  We have not had a Chik-Fil-A here that long and the staff already knows him.  One coworker has vowed never to eat at Chik-fil-a without him.   We flew to Connecticut on Monday.  Tuesday breakfast at the hotel was a

No Place Like Home

So at the very end of May (after Memorial Day) I was drafted by Boss 3 (Boss 1 is my immediate supervisor, Boss 2 is his boss, Boss 3 is over him) to go to a recent acquisition because disaster on the books related to inventory and costing.  In addition to Boss 3 another costing expert and 2 controllers (both of who have been working with this location) were there.  I haven't traveled for work since November 2012.  The Mom situation kept me tied to home (more or less) for a couple of years.  I d

Oh Look, A T-Shirt

I got beckoned to the boss's office yesterday afternoon.  Mind you I was in the middle of month end related activities.  The reason?  Here's a T-shirt.  Fine.  Really?  I had to stop my work to come pick up a T-shirt.  With a nifty company logo and something about safety on the front chest area.  Fine.  Nice.  I'm not wild about printed t-shirts at this point in my adulthood.   And I'll be honest - I tend to toss most corporate printed crap given to me after I leave a company.  There are so

KISS ripped off who?

So I'm spending quality time on my holiday weekend surfing YouTube (don't knock it - it makes me happy).  And recently while watching Black N Blue videos I recognized a familiar riff.  But the familiarity was not from Black N Blue (from their song Nasty Nasty).  Nope, if was from KISS (and the song Domino).  I did some googlefu.  Because I wondered - did Gene Simmons rip a riff off them?  He did per the interview at the link below with Jamie St. James. http://eddietrunk.com/black-n-blue-sin

Hot Blooded (& a bit of musical tangents through 80's metal)

So this crosses my screen this afternoon.  And it makes my happy.  Foreigner - Hot Blooded. The bass player in this lineup is Jeff Pilson.  He used to be in this band (Dokken - Breaking the Chains) The singer of that Foreigner lineup?  Kelly Hanson.  I've actually seen Kelly sing live before.  Back in the 80's with a band called Hurricane.  They were on tour with Stryper.  (it was at Memorial Hall in KCK, small venue but great place to see music because there weren't bad seats in t

1 Woman, 2 (or more) Companies, over $1.5 million

So back in March, I came across this article from the KC Star detailing a woman's theft of $300k from the company she worked/ managed payroll for. http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/crime/article66199102.html Most of the money, per the article, went to trips and gambling (I'm going to guess trips to gamble myself).   Being both a Finance and Accounting dork and a writer naturally I saved the article (thank you Pinterest's ability to let me electronically horde) Then today t

He's Back! (Mr. Crankypants)

Yeah - my favorite work related person in the whole wide world (read that dripping in sarcasm, please) is back.   I'm less than amused. this would be the guy I thought we got rid of in January when I made what I thought was our final royalty payment.  Which, thanks to two different pantents in two different countries we still owe royalties to for the rest of the year.  Not even going to go into the potential of licensing fees for this guy because he copyrighted something that would be

Path/Nothing Else Matters - Cello Style (Rock Cellos)

Sunday the vocalist for my favorite cello band (Apocalyptica) shared a video of Apo with Emil & Dariel (aka RockCellos) in Tampa.  Apparently Emil and Dariel were on America's Got Talent (a show I don't watch).  And they've caught the attention of Apocalyptica who had them join them onstage over the weekend on their current US tour.   Since I have yet to figure out how to link to an Instagram video and I have yet to find someone posting a youtube video of this performance I'm linking to

Stake-Out

I'm not a parent.  This means that I've missed out on all of those parental brag moments.  My sister doesn't have kids either so the Aunt moments aren't there either.  I have a pair of almost nieces.  And I have a select group of kids that I consider spiritual children from my days as  a small group leader (the entity formerly known as Sunday School Teacher).   One of those kids is pursuing her dreams.  And finding them at times.  I find myself making comparisons between her and Raquel - my p

Singer Sewing Machine Manual Advice from 1949

This just appeared on my Facebook feed.  And I had to come here to share.   My mother sewed.  And, sorry Singer, she didn't have a Singer  Nope hers was a Necci.  I don't remember her dusting her fingers with chalk.  I don't remember her putting on a clean dress.  Nope, she cut the pattern/fabric on the kitchen table and did her sewing without worrying about what she looked like.  She still managed to enjoy her sewing.

Oh my!  This is Jill Rodriques' fault.  I go to YouTube intending to see her latest video.  And get all sidetracked by the crazy Fins in my subscription listing.   "cover' of Metallica's Battery by Apocalyptica.  4 Cellos.   Yes, 4.  Because the man of mystery - Antero! - is back for this one.

Start The Car

I've been surfing Youtube lately.  And I encounter music from back in the ay (the 80's) that gives me the happies   I need the happies this week.  A few times so far this week I have wanted to leave work, go home and revert to sucking my thumb and twirling my hair.   Adulting has sucked.  Work has sucked.  I have another canker sore.  But I drag myself through.  And music has helped. I had found some Black N Blue videos over the last week or so.  I'll be shallow - the bass player was cute.

Elevate My Mind

My brain is prone do taking random trips down memory lane.  Specifically, it likes to jump around in music.  I can walk around with songs playing in my head - a phenomenon I call the mental jukebox.  Sometimes it remembers a song then wonders what the song really was.  Meaning, I knew the song but never the name.  Or the artist.  But my mind remembers fragments of it nonetheless.   One such song turns out to be Elevate My Mind by Stereo MC.  The song popped into the mental jukebox yesterday

Backup? What Backup?

I'm asking myself that question right now?  What backup?  Specifically regarding the person who should be covering urgent costing requests when I am out.  Such as on vacation.  Or, as in this specific instance, when I leave early to go to the doctor (and in this case the psychiatrist treating me for depression and trust me, you want me medicated at work). Every month I check to make sure we don't have active parts floating about without a cost.  It is an issue.  If it weren't I wouldn't hav

Chasing Weather

I've followed this guy on Facebook for some years now.  He's an acquaintance of an author I know and well I turn around as I've shared his stuff and a lot of folks I know also follow him.  Stephen Locke is a photographer and storm chaser.  The link below is to a KC news program interview with him this morning.  He has a book out titled Chasing Weather.  And his work was in Beyonce's Lemonade video.  Also in a video for the synth-pop band Chvrches.  (blink and you'll miss it).   http://fox4k

Adult Coloring - Dementia version

Saturday I had a hair appointment.  Which means I stopped to see Mom since I was in the area.   I'm a bit annoyed because just before I arrived they had started a Tinkerbelle movie and Mom did not want to move to talk to me.  So I sat for a bit and watched her.  She dozed off during the movie.  She woke back up.  She'd look over at me, smile.  Go back to the movie.  It's Saturday, who starts a movie on a day where people might have visitors.  So now I have to decide if this is worth making

Cranky, Unless I am Not

I found a moment to not be cranky.  In an hour or so I get in the car and drive which will likely make me cranky again (in time to discuss said cranky with the doc). In the meantime,  I stumbled across the gem. Larger version can be found here:  http://slowrobot.com/i/58358

It's Too Tempting

That just came through via work email.  I need to snark on this.  Bugtussle = references to where I work.k  And I work here, I don't live here.  I spend 9 hours/day (including lunch) in this town, I'm not staying late or coming up here on a weekend. Continued Cranky (or stupid stuff people say in front of me)

Adding to the ongoing cranky I that has set up residence (note, I have a depression diagnosis and actually do see my doc on Friday.  The angry/cranky I have going on is on the mental agenda) is something stupid/insensitive that was discussed in front of me.  Yes, I know/figure - logically at least - that they weren't aiming this at me.  However to convince the inner negative voice that lives in my head and over analyzes EVERYTHING is a whole nightmare of impossible. I walked into a conversa

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

      Giraffe

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?
