After the New Year's Storm

We're in the process of digging ourselves out of the snow.  Dad said we had a little over four inches at the farm yesterday.  Looks like a lot of places here in Iowa did get that six inches the weatherman promised Friday night.  Couple spots even got close to 8 inches.  Brother backed out at the last minute on taking me to church this morning so mom did.  Which caused issues cause they wanted to go to their own church at the same time.  Mom wound up taking me and dad met her at their church

Active New Year's Coming Part 2

It looks like the heavier stuff is going to stay to the south, which now forecasters think may see more than six inches of snow. If today's forecast is accurate then we'll get anywhere from a trace up to four inches of snow tomorrow. Of course in reality it'll be anywhere from nothing up to several feet of snow.  Sometimes they predict a snowpocalypse and nothing happens and sometimes we get caught by surprise.  We picked up a take and bake pizza for tomorrow night and will just have t

Active New Year's Coming

Looks like this weekend will be snowy in Iowa So we appear to be in the 4 to 7 inch band.  Southern Iowa it looks like they'll get almost a foot.  Of course in reality we'll have anywhere from a trace to 99 inches of snow.  Right now it looks like we'll get hit on Saturday and it'll be clear out on Sunday.

Snow! Snow! And More Snow!

It started snowing shortly before 10am central here.  By noon we had 2.5 inches of snow on the ground and it's still coming down pretty good.  There's a heavy band of snow moving through eastern Iowa right now.  We'll probably have four inches by the time it's over later today.  Of course Iowa drivers can't go more than a few months without forgetting how to drive in winter weather.  Including this moron was was clocked going 111 mph this morning.

First Serious Winter Weather of the Season

Looks like we'll be due for a couple inches of snow this morning.  And it looks like we'll be getting more on Wednesday. We've had a few winter weather events over the past few weeks but nothing too major so we'll have to see if this turns out to be an actual winter system or another case of the several inches promised by a weather person being a no-show. I hope the weather is cooperative Friday night into Saturday because I do want to go to my cousin's New Year's party since I'

December Aftermath

We got through the severe weather where I am in Iowa OK.  We didn't lose power and so far we don't have any real damage here to speak of.  Family got through it too OK. There's quite a bit of damage in other parts of Iowa.  Floyd County was hit by a possible tornado yesterday.  One person was killed in Benton County when high winds toppled their semi truck.  As of 8:20am on 12/16 there are about 48,000 power outages reported.

Warm, Windy December Day

It's currently 70 degrees here in Iowa right now.  The normal temperature is about half that.  Plus it's getting really windy around here and we have a tornado watch going.  They're forecasting strong winds this evening around dinner time.

Yeah I don't think I'll need the window unit anymore this year.

It's supposed to get down into the mid 20s for lows over the next few days with highs only in the mid 40s. Finally pulled the window unit out of my room at home this evening, I think I won't need it anymore for a few months. It's supposed to be nicer this weekend so a bike ride into town to go to church may be in order and have my brother bring my car in with the bike rack to give me a ride home then.

Multiple seasons in a week

Over the past few days we've had multiple seasons in a week.  We've had days where the temps got down in to the upper 40s for lows and low 60s for highs.  Then this weekend it got nice and warm again.  It was in the upper 80s yesterday afternoon around here and some spots in Iowa were up in the 90s.  It was still warm out today around here with highs in the upper 70s.    According to the NWS they're expecting us to be in the 70s and 80s next week.  Might be seeing rain tonight and tomorrow

Fall preview

We're having our first preview of fall's coming attractions today.  Right now it's 63 degrees out and it's been down in the 50s for lows.  It's been raining most of the morning but it looks like most of it is sliding on out to the east now. I had a bit of an internal debate about whether I should take out the window air conditioner in my room now or wait awhile.  Yeah, think I'll wait.  It'll probably be a thousand degrees in the shade sometime in the next couple weeks if I take it out

Iowa rainbow

I was out driving this evening and saw a great big rainbow out in the county.      Could’ve done without the storm earlier today but it was nice to see that.

Another August Thunderstorm

Seems like the worst warm weather stuff always hits right in August.  We just had some bad storms roll through the area.  Here's a screenshot of the NWS radar from about 45 minutes ago.  We had wind and 1/4" hail here.  No major damage that I can see to anything.  Thought we were going to be without power and internet for a while but it came back before too long.  Lots of electrical lines and trees down in the area. The worst of it was up north of where I am, such as up in Fayett

Hey TV People

When you’re drawing on the weather map it’s probably a good idea to avoid phallic looking stuff.

It's Not Over Yet

Iowa is about to get hit with the winter storm that hit the Rockies not too long ago.  Right now it looks like we're getting several inches of snow over the next couple days.  I cut my job interview trip short and started to head back home, I'll have to do the interview on zoom.  I was looking forward to meeting my potential new employer in person and checking out the town too.  Ugh.  Here in the upper Midwest it always seems like winter has one last blast before giving up and letting sprin

Just Wait a Few Days

The old saying is if one doesn't like the weather in Iowa just wait a few days. We're not in the part of Iowa that's under a watch but my sister is down in Waukee.

Warming Up in Parts of Iowa

Next week parts of Iowa are going to be getting up close to or in the low 70s.  Not the part of Iowa I live in which is going to be about 10 degrees cooler. Fornicate.  The week after I was in Des Moines to cat and house sit my sister this happens.  Mother Nature sucks sometimes.

How cold is it?

How cold is it here in Iowa? Cold enough I'm now getting messages saying hey plug in your car if you want it to start next time... Yeah, you know it's cold when you start getting those messages from GM.

Mother Nature is mean when she drinks

Yeah it's quite cold here in Iowa.  The weather service says it's -8 here now.  That's before wind chill.  With the wind child it feels like -28 out.  It's so cold out I'm getting alerts from GM that the cold might immobilize my vehicle if it's not plugged in.   I wish I could escape to a warm climate right now.

Brrrrr

It was minus 17 when I woke up this morning.  Currently it’s minus 15 out. That’s before windchill comes in to.  We’ll have to see if we can get up above zero today.  I must be crazy since I’m looking to move further north now.

Ok Mother Nature you can stop now

Yeah, mother nature you can stop anytime now. And of course after this the precipitation goes away but it's supposed to get really cold around here. So looking forward to spring now.

Another one is coming

And now for the latest attractions we have another storm coming up this weekend. Starting out tomorrow with a wintry mix including freezing rain before transitioning over to all snow.   I've heard anywhere from four to ten inches this weekend by the time it comes to an end on Sunday.  Just what we need.  More snow. Dear Mother Nature, Please stop now. Thank you 47of74

Number Two Has Arrived

Now we’re getting the number two in the one two punch I mentioned last weekend.  My dad said we’ve had about 7.5 inches so far today. According to the weather service my sister in Des Moines got about a foot of snow.

Coming Attractions

We didn’t get much snow Saturday night.  We just had a couple inches here in Iowa and most of it was clear by noon.  Of course they’re still saying we’ll have a snowpocalypse on Monday and Tuesday so we’ll have to see what happens then.

One Two Punch

Well it looks like we've got a one two punch coming here in the upper Midwest, with a storm coming today into tomorrow, then another one coming Monday into Tuesday.  Depending on who you go to for weather and where in Iowa you're located it looks like it'll be anywhere from one to four inches tonight into tomorrow.  They don't know yet how much snow we'll get next week or where exactly it's going.  The local ABC station is thinking it'll be centered south of US 20. So this winter we had a g

After the storm

Well the latest storm has passed through on its way out east.  We had about 7.4 inches where I live.  Looks like the heaviest snow was in the Cedar Rapids, Williamsville, Charlotte, and Solon areas with 11 inches of snow.  My sister in Waukee said they had about 10 inches where they were. And of course some moron was clocked going 114 miles an hour on Interstate 35 cause they wanted to get back to school.

Wishing I had a dollar for every time I burped on my back porch after dark and set off a neighbor's dog. The best part is that I'm sure everyone think it's my BF and not me, because it's surely not possible such a huge noise could come out of my body.
