Winter Storm Elliott

Over the past week we've had several inches of snow.  It cleared up Sunday but the temperature dropped like a rock these past few days. And we - along with most of the rest of the upper Midwest - are also getting hammered.  Right now one of the local stations is saying we'll get 4 to 8 more inches of snow  Plus blowing snow tomorrow and Friday.  Ugh. It's been snowing pretty steady over the course of the day.  This a photo I took by Target Center leaving work today. If the f

The Winterpire Strikes Back

Last week when I was down in Iowa the snow pretty much melted up here in the Twin Cities.  Well we got it all back today. More winter fun in the spoiler. Of course today the electric company had a scheduled outage in my neighborhood and my power was supposed to be down from 10 to 2 today.  So I went in to the office.  I have no idea if the outage went off as scheduled or if they're going to do it again tomorrow.  We're under a winter storm warning until 9pm.  My coworker m

Yeah It's Snowing

It was snowing most of the night so the ground was covered this morning. The local NBC station is saying probably 1 to 3 inches throughout Minnesota with about two inches in the Twin Cities. It's not going to be especially heavy but then you got all those idiots out there who forgot how to drive in winter weather.

Aw Fornicate

Looks like we’re not getting away so cleanly after all. Looks like we’ll be having some accumulation over the next few days.  Ugh.

Fornicate. Winter is coming.

Yeah, looks like winter is coming to the upper Midwest.  Fornicate. Looks like North Dakota is getting the brunt but winter is also hitting Montana, South Dakota, and parts of northwest Minnesota.  One of my FB friends from law school lives in SW Minnesota so I got a message out to her asking how the weather is out there.  I'm not ready for winter yet.  Ugh,

Summer clocked out at the end of her shift

It’s been cooler up here these past few days. And now we have a frost alert coming  Well my plants are pretty much done for so I don’t have to worry about that now.  I hope it stays decent for a while yet   Leaves have definitely started turning up here and I’m having to wear thicker jackets if I rode in the morning or after work. I still need to get a thicker riding coat as I had to throw my old one out last April.

Today is the 2 Year Anniversary of the Iowa Derecho

Two years ago today Iowa got hit by a derecho Yeah it got really rainy and windy up by Dubuque but there wasn't any damage at the farm.  Nor did we lose power.  Others in the area weren't quite as lucky.  To say nothing of areas like Cedar Rapids or other parts of Iowa that got really hard.  And it was two years ago today that I learned that there was a weather phenomena called derecho.

A Hot One in the Midwest

Yeah, it's nice and hot up here in the Midwest.  Right now in Minnesota it's coming up on 8:00pm and it's still in the upper 90s.  It's actually warmer here in Minnesota right now than it is in Iowa. It's supposed to be a bit cooler tomorrow, then it looks like temps will be up in the 90s until Saturday when it's going to be about 78.  Last night I glanced at my Lenovo alarm clock a couple times and it was the middle of the night and it was still in the high 80s. Honest truth

Supposed to be a hot one tomorrow

Supposed to be a good hot one in the upper Midwest tomorrow.  Here in Minneapolis it's supposed to be up close to 100 tomorrow. In Iowa the various cities are opening up cooling centers and are advising residents to be careful about the heat.  One of the local stations asked how well prepared the Minnesota power grid is for the heat.  In other words Minnesota won't be as fornicated as Abattoir land was or is when extreme weather hits the power grid.

Is this spring?

When I lived in Iowa the joke was that one wanted to experience all four seasons in one week they just had to live in Iowa for a while.  Sooner or later they would have such a week. Seems to be the case up here in Minnesota as well.  After a stretch with with highs in the 70s to 80s even up as high as 90 it's been fairly cool out the past few days.  Supposed to warm up again over the week and be up around 80 by this weekend.  So far the plant collection seems to be tolerating the cold snap

Haboob Hit The Midwest

There was an intense dust storm that moved through the Upper Midwest (IA, SD, NE, and MN) Thursday. And there is actually a name for what happened too. The NWS said they can occur anywhere but usually occur in the Southwest.

More Spring Weather "Fun"

Xcel is still out cleaning things up and more bad weather is expected this evening. They had said earlier that Washburn and 55th had been blocked.  The neighbor's shelter tent that just about went flying off last week during a storm was ruined.  She said it got tipped right over the fence in the wind.  Otherwise she said there was no other damage and I didn't see any other damage.  Had a couple co-workers that had to make alternate arrangements for working today due to power and/or int

Meanwhile in Minneapolis

Yeah we got hit up in the Twin Cities this evening; I got home to find the joint still intact and with electrical power so I'm relieved.

Spring showed up this week

It got up into the 80s yesterday.  We had some storms though and some hail.  Glad my vehicle was in its parking spot in the garage when the storms came through.  For the rest of this week we're supposed to see lows in the upper 50s to highs close to 90 with some storms in the mix.  Got the windows wide open now even though I live under a final approach for MSP.

Spring is Finally Arriving

Spring may finally be arriving up here. It got up above 70 today. And not only are yards turning green, but various plants are finally starting to bud as well.  Once trees and other plants start budding full leaves are not too far off.  I was able to go out today without a jacket and felt fine. Supposed to be nice, warm, and sunny up here in Minneapolis tomorrow. Sister and brother-in-law picked a good weekend to visit. We’re planning to go see the Twins tomorrow.

Spring briefly appeared today

Nice and warm today up in Minneapolis.  It's close to about 70 degrees up here now.  It was raining out earlier today but it's stopped so I've had the window open for a while today.  First day it's been warm enough to do that. I had the bedroom window open for a while but I decided to close it since if it starts raining suddenly I'm not in a position to move fast to close that window.  I ❤️ my place but of course I could do without being under the final approach for MSP.  Still no

MS Outlook

I glanced at Outlook and it said the high was gonna be about 58 tomorrow and 45 Saturday.  Oh nice.  Or would've been nice if I lived in Washington, DC.  Which is where Outlook somehow got it in its head where I was located. In Minneapolis they're saying 16 tomorrow.  Saturday looks to be a bit better with highs projected to be in the 30s.

Yeah We're Getting Hammered

And I don't mean hammered as in getting drunk either. NWS is expecting about a foot of snow around here. Right now it's not doing much of anything out.  Just cold and windy.  It'll be a good day to stay in tomorrow and just camp out at home.

Looks Like We're Getting Hammered This Week

Today was fairly nice out, with mostly sunny skies and the temp getting up to about 45 F.  Looks like we're about to pay for it though.  Both with more snow and temps nose-diving. I'm glad my new gig is 100% remote since it'll enable me to just stay home the next few days.

Going to be really cold in Iowa

It's supposed to get really cold in Iowa tomorrow, even before any wind chill is factored in. They're saying that once wind chills are factored in the temperatures will feel like more than -30 below zero.  Minnesota is going to be about the same.  With wind chill it'll be down as low as the -40s below zero in some parts of Minnesota. A bunch of places are cancelling school tomorrow in Iowa because of the weather.  Down in Dubuque the public schools are calling off classes.  The

Cold weather on tap

Yeah it's supposed to be really cold here in the upper midwest over the next few days. For the Twin Cities the NWS is saying mid 30s tomorrow before the temp drops down close to zero Wednesday and Thursday. Brrrrr

Snow totals

We wound up getting about three inches in the SW Minneapolis area where I'm staying right now.  I talked to my mom this morning for a bit and she said they got a couple inches yesterday.  Down in the Des Moines area where my sister lives they got about a foot of snow.  Even though it snowed pretty much all day yesterday traffic was humming right along up here.  Not like other areas of the country where so much as a dusting is enough to shut down an area.  It's sunny out today up here b

Another January Snowstorm

Had some snow today up in the Twin Cities. Iowa also had a bit of snow today as well with eastern Iowa getting about to 1 to 6 inches of snow.  I didn't have any trouble getting to or from work today even with the weather hitting the fan.  Supposed to be clear out tomorrow but it a bit colder.  Depending on what the mortgage and realtor say tomorrow might go looking at some more places tomorrow.  Regardless I'm going to try to sleep in a bit tomorrow morning.

Brrr

Current temperature in Bloomington  I'd rather have this than a Branch Trumpvidian government, hands down. I changed the name of the blog since I'll be doing more Minnesota weather reports.  I'll still do Iowa when I go back to visit or if I hear of weather stuff there.

Wishing I had a dollar for every time I burped on my back porch after dark and set off a neighbor's dog. The best part is that I'm sure everyone think it's my BF and not me, because it's surely not possible such a huge noise could come out of my body.
