Thanks!!! I just couldn't figure that out! I thought it would be about godparents or something.

I really do love birth stories and that one was handled beautifully.

I also almost teared up, which was surprising, because I'm not a huge fan of Robyn's, but that was a very generous and heartfelt offer. She obviously means it and has been thinking about it for aw hile. In so much as Robyn seems to fill a void for Meri (who apparently is more left out of the Janelle/Christine parenting group than I thought), I suppose she has been a good addition. Also.. holy crap, that was some calm labor

pixydust - wow, that is possibly the most beautiful, selfless thing i have ever heard come out of robyn's mouth.

I know! I could not believe it! I've really been wishing that Meri could have another baby, she loves them so much (and so does Mariah!). I wonder if they will actually do it.

"I want to be your surrogate" is code for "I need the attention of being pregnant again already!"

I have no doubt that Robyn really enjoyed all the fuss and attention and figured out this was another way to get it.

Perhaps I find the worst in Robyn but part of me wonders if this is part of her plot to keep Meri from having an empty house. I'm curious to see if they will persue this and note it as a "perk of the lifestyle". Anyways to be positive Robyn was so calm in labor. Not what I expected from her.

I guess that means that two wage-earners will be out of commission to help pay the way of the rest of the family. I think it's kind of weird. I think Meri will say no. I think she's going to feel too old to be taking on the task again. I know I'M feeling that way. lol

This is terrible, and maybe I'm way too cynical, but my first thought was that Robyn is afraid that Meri is going to move on when Mariah leaves for college, and having another baby is one way to tie her to the family.

I think Robyn has the Kool-Aid built into her genes. After she was treated so poorly by her ex, and she's okay with her FATHER viewing the vag-in-birth, ::shudder:: there's just something about her that makes me think she truly believes she was meant to birth babies no matter what.

Sheds a completely different light on the "my evil plot" thing Robyn was talking about earlier re: Meri's empty nest.

I also wonder if keeping Meri tied down with kids is a way to keep her from having too much alone time with Kody. Not to mention the whole "I gave you a child!" thing Robyn could hold over her forever after that.

Maybe she was, looks like she is one of those very lucky women who has relatively easy labors. Can't believe that was a 9 pound baby.

Oh, wow! I'm almost crying over the end of this episode!

After the baby is born, Robyn offers to be Meri's surrogate, Meri's eggs. She told Meri to think about it. I have a little bit more respect for Robyn now.

Me too. What a truly wonderful thing to offer Meri. I am in tears.

Having children is sooo important in the LDS and FLDS religion and culture. I still deal with family members saying things to me and about me because I don't have children, and not by choice. Not being able to have children is a huge kick in the soul. I think Robyn recognizes that, how could she not, and is being sincere.

though, question, why couldn't meri have the eggs put into her? why does she need a surrogate? or was this explained?

In a past episode I remember Meri saying she can't sustain a pregnancy.

Bingo.

Maybe I'm just a cynic, but, this was the first thing that came to my mind. I give Robyn some credit for being good at subtle manipulation- this will give her the limelight and force others to quell negative thoughts about her. Now, Meri will be indebted to Robyn, who will continue to bask in the attention to a pregnant woman, especially one who oh so generously volunteered to be a surrogate.

I'm torn on this. On one hand, I think her motives are selfish, but on the other side, she is giving up her "hot wife" status to be pregnant for another 9 months so I don't know....

She said that she would be her surrogate!

I think it's just a guess; My sister offered to be my surrogate as well, and my uterus isn't the problem. Meri has never been to an infertility specialist, so there is no telling what her fertility issues really are. It could be a simple problem to fix.

Overall, I think the adults should listen to the children and consider stopping with all the baby making.

Well, Meri has already said no to Kody's offer of IVF, and honestly, I hope she says no to Robyn's offer as well. Just let the woman have the peace she's made about her infertility and the joy that she has with her one child and let her be. Just because it makes Robyn and Kody happy does not mean it will make Meri happy. Sweet, yes, but I don't think entirely selfless. :snooty:

Wow, I was blown away. I thought she'd ask Meri to be the baby's godmother or something like that. I'm not sure what her motives are, but I can't imagine offering to get pregnant when you're still in bed from delivering a 10lb baby! She said she had been praying about it, but I really hope it wasn't a rush of childbirth hormones that caused her to blurt it out. That could lead to some serious awkwardness later if she reconsiders.

so who gets spiritual 'credit' for bringing another spirit down to earth then? Does Robyn get the credit or Meri? This is confusing, but I think it speaks to motive... ;)

TLC $$, baby. What else could it be? Kody's amazing earning power? lol

ETA: this was in response to them buying a cul-de-sac or whatever. Should have quoted to make it clear what the heck I was talking about.

Surrogacy aside, I think my favorite part was Kody's trying to explain why he kisses other wives when one is in labor. Not liking what the internets have to say about you, Douche?

Call me an even bigger cynic, but I just smell a new reality show plotline.

These people desperately need the show to continue in order to build their little dream cul de sac of houses. A story line involving a junior wife serving as a surrogate for hubby and the first wife could guarantee a couple more seasons on TLC.
