Why is it called The Second Anual Spring Grandma Picnic? Does she not normally spend time with her grandkids? They are all home schooled. How hard is it to take them to the park especially when she has three other adults with her?

Just like Christopher makes pizza with his kids once a year.

You know, except for the addition of Teri, this picnic is just a typical "aunties taking care of the kids" day. Anna and Mary do this all the time, even with all of the grandkids.

Reinforces what a shitty grandmother Teri is.

the way I'm reading it is that if they don't make it annual and thus have it all planned out it will never happen again.

That makes it sound like she only spends time with her grandkids once a year

I took it more as they are not spontaneous. everything has to be planned to the T. so she probably sees them at her house ect.. but to spend a whole day of fun an games they have to plan it out.  and with all those kids and the number just keeps growing I actually can't snark on that too badly.

I can see it being exciting for the kids with all the planning and preparing of what to eat and what games to play. I used to love picnics as a kid. It might be different because they are eating lunch there and it’s all about fun, fun, fun. It is different than just going to the park on a regular outing. It’s like having eggs and bacon breakfast versus eggs and bacon For dinner. It’s the same food but exciting as a kid because it’s at a different time. My guess is Terri needs this to be scheduled because she cannot get through the day without a schedule/plan. I could see there being a fear of the unknown if a plan isn’t in place for everything.

Steve may not admit it but it seems the kids get the opportunity to have fun and enjoy themselves. It seems they have made an idol of the playground and auntie’s park.

Question. Is the auntie’s park their backyard? I know they go to the regular park but where is the auntie’s park?

The Maxwell’s always seem to make things so much more difficult than necessary. Yesterday, on the spur of the moment, a couple friends and I took our  six young children to the park. No annual planning required, just a couple texts. Easy peasy.  We won’t wait a year to do it again, just another sunny day.

Terri is the woman who schedules weekly reading time with the grandchildren and packs a bag or basket of books.   Her ability to cope with life is astoundingly limited.

Also, I highly doubt the grandkids were involved in any planning. The borg doesn’t allow children to have an actual say in their life.

I'm sure all the kids had fun and they are friends with each other not cousins.

I’m sure they had fun too, and I am glad. I think if it wasn’t made into such a big deal. They could all do it more often, Teri included.  I feel the need to micromanage and making everything a huge limits them and probably doesn’t help with Teri’s anxiety and may teach the younger ones to be anxious about what should be every day activities.

ETA I see I misread your post, I’m reading while cleaning. Sorry.

She’s not allowed to hang out with other kids her age, so... it’s difficult. Even the Duggars interacted with other IBLP families at the conferences and so on. The only non-family people the Maxwells interact with are the elderly.

Wow, I didn’t realize their backyard was so big. Hell, I would probably never go to the park if I had that much space to run around. I would put a pool in if I had that much space but I know swimming is likely out for them. Too much clingy fabric to distract from Godly swimming.

The grandkids all live a very short distance from each other. All Teri has to do is make a few (probably no more than 3) phone calls to see if the kids want to go out to the park one day. Then make some sandwiches, cut up some fruit and bring a bag of pretzels. This should not require a ton of effort on her part, especially with Anna and Mary helping out.

They could easily do this once a month, maybe more. I imagine parents would be happy for the break. This all should not be that hard.

Teri has seriously made an idol of that ridiculous schedule, it’s worse than her Pepsi binging.

I just noticed that Teri sat out the three-legged race to stay with the babies. Just like when her own kids were little and she'd get herself out of hide and seek first so she could sit on the couch.

I get needing breaks, but it's not like she's taking care of these kids regularly. Do the three-legged race, Teri!

I hope that she (and her siblings) have cousins on her mom's side that is allowed to associate with and to have fun with on regular basis.

In defense of Teri (somewhat), I can see where she might want to schedule her visits/activities with each set of grandchildren to make sure she spends equal time with everyone. Or if all the grandkids are present, there are so many of them now that it may be necessary to plan what to bring, how much to bring, etc.

I don't think Teri was into her own kids, and I don't think she's into her grandchildren either.  I'm in my fifties and my friends are experiencing being grandparents.  We don't act anything like Teri does.  We all absolutely gush over our babies and can't get enough of them.  And we all take our grandchildren out all the time.  Alone, the same way we took our kids out all the time.  I could just picture Teri taking her kids, plus her kids' friends to the beach by herself.  Yeah, those were fun times-trying to watch everyone while they were in the water.  She would have a nervous breakdown if she did that.  This grandmother's picnic in the park is an event that takes planning because it's not something she was ever used to, and that's pretty sad.

Meh, call me a cynic, but I see the Spring Grandma's park picnic just an excuse to put out an easy blog. I click on (fall for it every time!), and the Maxes make a little more $$$. I would appreciate it if they told us a bit about their "real" lives. For example, with so many adults living under one roof, there are bound to be disagreements.  How do they deal? What does Steve do all day? Do they have discussions during Bible Time or does Steve just interpret and sermonize? Tell us about theirchurch services.  What does Steve like to preach on? Is  the church growing?   Do they do Outreach?  Do John and Chelsy attend regularly?  Lots of stuff for a "ministry".

I'm not asking to get into their private business. Just more substance in blog.  Lately it's mostly been endless loops of the grandchildren with Annanmary.   And don't get me wrong--they are all gorgeous but the Maxes are such a rare breed. I want to know more about them.  It would also be interesting to know how they vet the responses they allow on their blogs.  What criteria and why.  Seriously, give me some substance.  I gotta say, the Bontragers are giving them  a very serious run for their money.  Agree or not, their blogs are engaging.

right sometimes you'll come across a post that doesn't allow comments and they are some of the less controversial ones. it's a bit odd.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.

It’s not supposed to be mosquito season right now but I still appear to have been bitten twice on the side of my foot. Bastards. I know I shouldn’t scratch but it’s so tempting… 😑
