Based on a bit of online sleuthing, I think they stayed at the "Tuck U Inn at Glick Mansion" B&B, in Atchison KS - most likely in the "Lizzy's Attic" suite on the top floor. (Pics from the B&B's and Maxwell's websites match, especially the suite and the dining room's ornate birdcage.)

Lizzy's Attic is described on the website as "Perfect for shoppers or a girl's night out," and amenities include TV/DVD, free wifi, and cable TV. It's also rumored to be...wait for it...haunted! :pb_lol:

Watch out, Steve - Lizzy's ghost is coming to get you.

Wonder what they thought about the corset in the corner.

I finally saw a picture of Mitchell and Bryn Bontrager's wedding of the Duggars and Maxwells sitting together. They were in the back so I had a hard time finding them. It just makes me sad because I think Sarah and JD would make a good match personality wise and he could fly her back to Kansas if she got a little homesick every once in awhile after marriage. Plus she's my age so she would probably only have five kids. It's too bad Steve will not loosen his grip on those girls.

Why do they need a vacation to spend quality time together? They're three grown women who share a bedroom and don't work outside the house. If that were me I'd need a vacation FROM so much quality time together  lol

Am I the only one ( besides John!) who is looking forward to the wedding & photos?

What Mango said. Aside from the broader tragedy that the sisters have been sold a bill of goods, I'm kind of sad we only have two more batches of Christopher's shitty wedding photos to look forward to in the immediate family.

It's ridic to think that even a kids show like Lamb Chops Playalong would be considered vebotten for the Maxhell kids. Woudln't want them getting any ideas about some people who are non-family members being their friend And getting non-Christian songs going on and on neverending in their heads...

(sorry for any earworms I may have caused!)

Interesting to read the story of Joshua and Cassidy Bontrager on the Bontrager website.

It seems to definitely confirm that they don't "court" in the same way the Duggars and Maxwells do, but it's something close to it: a "relationship with the purpose of marriage".

Seems like the main differences are: less involvement of the parents in deciding to begin the relationship (Joshua had to ask his future FIL permission to begin the relationship but seems like Daddy Bontrager wasn't as involved), less chaperoning, and more physical contact than the Maxwells allow (but we knew that bit already).

If the story is accurate, then does this mean John would have been able to ask Daddy Bontrager to begin a relationship with Chelsy without Steve being involved in the reciprocal decision about Chelsy? I wonder...

It was a vacation from STEVE.

Mary looks as happy in those pictures as Teri did when she went solo to the women’s conference. And since John looks more comfortable when he’s with Chelsy’s family, Steve is even more clearly an oppressive factor in their lives.

I think I found the place they stayed at. If it's true, the place has The Beast! And they allow drinking!! The owner is Chrisitan, but clearly not Stevehovas Version.

Spoiler

I'm sure they pulled a Poltergeist and immediately placed the TV outside of their hotel room.

But seriously they're still the worst. "It was then that I realized he would be a great father in law. Additionally, I had a couple great conversations with Cassidy..." uhhh Shouldn't that have gone the other way around?? I couldn't have written a better parody of fundie dating. I just don't understand these stories where they make it sound like they were interested in dating the father in law but settled for one of his lowly daughters. It's great that you like your spouse's family. It's not if you dated the family and then closed your eyes to pick an available daughter.

Eta: and I don't even think that's what happened, in any of these courtship stories. I think they had the hots for each other and they just write the stories this way bc it makes them look cool (to their intended audience). It's flabbergasting.

Someone should tell these fundies how gay this sounds to the rest of the world. Then maybe they'll stop?

I'm wondering what style of wedding dress Chelsey will wear. Have seen photos of her in short skirts( to her knees) and sleeveless tops. Just looking at the latest wedding photos and at the Maxwell wedding photos, I'm at odds what her style will be. She wouldn't dare go too lacy less Steve get a glimpse of her elbow and call the whole thing off!

Same cult, better marketing. Don't even go there to the "they're different" train....just photoshopped better

New post about "Christmas Random Life". Lordy, Sarah's writing kills me.

Quote

One week from today is Christmas! It’s probably cliche to say where did the time go? But it’s true. Where did it go?

That aside, it’s Christmas time, and I love that. I want to give you another peek of random life. Everyone here is balancing work, Christmas activities, and for John, house prep, wedding, and work. We’re grateful for how the Lord has filled our time, and I can’t wait to share with you later about our annual Christmas caroling last night.

I’d love to hear 1 special Christmas tradition you enjoy

I have finally caught up here. It's been a blessing to have the lord fill my time with the Maxwell threads on FJ. :my_angel:

Quote form the blog:  "This was a special make-pizza-with-Daddy night. Something Christopher does annually with his children!"

Annually?  really?  he does this annually?  (and let's not even get into the incorrect sentence structure)  i certainly hope those kids get to make other meals with Daddy throughout the rest of the year.

Arnold and Ellie are the best parts of Maxhell.

Anna and Mary were gifted with a night away at a Bed & Breakfast for all three of the sisters as a “thank you” for investing in some sweet little ones.

This sentence baffled me for a while because wouldn't the gift have been for all three SAHDs? But now that I think of it, Sarah really doesn't interact with her nieces and nephews, at least not that we see. It's always "Anna and Mary played with the littles at Aunties' Park". Sarah is always there, behind the camera, but I'm trying to think if I've ever seen one of the kids hugging her or climbing all over her the way they do with Anna (and sometimes Mary)

If Sarah really doesn't like children, I guess it's good that she doesn't marry. It's just odd.

I don't know if Sarah is just trying to showcase her sisters on the blog, or if she's just not as involved and uses her photography as a way of not interacting.

I agree, the way she worded it was confusing.  The gift was to all three but was given because Mary and Anna helped with the kids.  Does she think it's prideful to mention that she helped too?  Or did she really not help?

And if she didn't help why was she included in the gift?   Things that make you go Hmmmm.

It was a dark and storm night....But, SRSLY, could we secretly submit some of her writing to the the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest?

I'm still thinking about how Nathan Bates was sitting without his family in the reserved section at Mitchell Bontrager's wedding. It's just so odd it makes me wonder if he and Allison are "getting to know eachother."

Allison does seems to be Nathan's "type." She's pretty and outgoing like Ashley. But she's a farm girl who will be happy to stay a farm girl.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
