Nope I can't agree on Jessa on that one. She can get pretty snarky herself sometimes and I doubt she'd just read here and not jump in and defend herself at some point. Josh is too smug. Now cousin Amy I could see, MAYBE. Maybe 'Siah or one of the twins if they got curious enough. But then I wouldn't be shocked if we're on Jana's list of blocked pages.

We have good reason to believe somebody with influence on the production company or TLC reads here, and we know the tabloids do, they've quoted our posts. If only they had the balls to blow open the whole Duggar borg! (Though Derick's grifting and treatment of Jazz is hitting mainstream media more and more!)

If we have a Duggar here, who do you think? I am for Jessa or John-David or maybe even Josh.

Josh or Jessa would be my bet too (and Josiah as soon as he escapes (=marries)).

Not Amy: She probably doesn't want  to read about her cousins and uncle and aunt when so much less is said about her on here.

Jana , JD Joseph and Joy do not seem interested enough for this, Jill and Jinger too ... how do I put this nicely...scared...

From the in-laws: Definately Jeremy and I can see Derick doing it too. I think Jeremy would be the type to having at least read here before he he even knew Jinger personally (which would actually be really creepy if you think about it).

Ben is an interesting case: He grew up in the same circles, very fundie, but has a relatively open mind, it seems. I can see him and Jessa lurking here in the evening after they put their kids to bed.

If Josh and Jessa were/are here, I think they would definately be active and write. In the past there have been some suspitions about some of the members here being a Duggar or being very close to the family.

Jessa and Ben are getting a lot of love (relatively speaking) here recently, so I could imagine them doing just that. Not posting, but I think Jessa would be lapping up all the Spurgeon is so cute posts, and Ben would be very aware of how he is the top son-in-law, and maybe even reflecting on how that came to be.

Josh I could see being a stirrer.

I think JD could be a lurker, silently laughing about our crazy theories about why he and Jana are not married and telling her about what those crazy people are up to now. I don't think he would ever even consider commenting.

It wouldn't surprise me if Cathy Dillard lurked here. Same for Dan's wife (I can't remember her name/not concerned enough to google it).

I'd bet my life savings that the Duggar family attorneys monitor this site VERY closely.

I am sure Austin's bro in law, Bobby or whatever, lurks. He just seems like the kind of guy who spends time online fighting with liberals in chatrooms while his wife is taking care of the baby.

I doubt any Duggar currently reads here. I can see the married ones looking us up once, then leaving right away when they see how "mean" we all are.

I do think some of the in laws probably have read more than once. Like dWRECK because it was fuel his persecution complex. Maybe Jeremy, but the rest, I highly doubt it.

I can't even count the number of Dr's, Engineers, Nurses and other science types I have gone to church with. I'm not sure of the nitty gritty of what they believe and how they reconcile it but they do.

On the hard sciences/ social sciences/ humanities front

I did a Sociology degree complete with some thesis work, I'm not sure that someone with only a SODRT education could succeed without some serious remedial work. The writing skills, reading comprehension, critical thinking skills and even just things like properly writing a bibliography and skills like using correct citation methods etc are likely all areas they would struggle with. And it's a steep learning curve without any hand holding. I'm sure some of them have the raw intelligence but they would be sorely under prepared. And I think that's the case regardless of area of study.

The fact that many can't see beyond our own construct of time boggles my mind.  I've always read heard been told that God's time is not our time. I don't think the earth was created in 6 literal 24 hour days as we know it.  The way time is kept today has only been around since about the late 18th early 19th century. It is very easy, at least in my brain to believe in God and evolution, if you don't restrict yourself to the strict construct of time as we calculate it today.

Totally. I mean, believing in God is such a beautiful thing. It's the man-made personification that really is the problem. The idea that God is sitting there meddling in people's lives, telling us who to be attracted to, what to wear, who to submit to, etc. Men leading the faith have created a super-human powerful male overlord, created in their own image, that likes to control women and tell people what to do with their naughty bits.

This doesn't sound anything like anyone we know. *cough* JB *cough* any other fundie leader *cough*. #sarcasm

My junior high science teacher just happened to be my Sunday School teacher.  That's exactly how she explained it.  What we think of as a day isn't necessarily how God keeps time.  Also if we believe that God's hand is in everything why couldn't his hand be guiding evolution.

Pretty sure my middle school self was able to figure out that when Genesis says people lived well into the hundreds or gave birth at 90, time must have been calculated differently. I don't understand how you can read Genesis especially and be a bible literalist.

I don't think they'll make it in college because they're lazy. Everything is Duggar time. Plus they have to study stuff they might not like. You have to take general ed courses.

Agreed. I wish at least they would try to broaden their scope a little more. Especially Jinger after being so sheltered for so long. I can't help but cheer her on. Maybe and hopefully Jeremy will be good for her, and not just by her wearing jeans...but that could be the start of things.

If one of the Duggars wants a university education I can start by offering them my two current essays. One on whether the treatment of the Irish in Victorian England was based on racism and the second on the issues of how we use children's Holocaust literature to teach genocide. 9000 words total, it can be a new experience for them.

Any takers? No? I'd probably rather be Jinger too, now that I come to think of it, I hate final year. And she gets prettier dresses than me because I'm broke. Or Jessa, babies confuse me, but Spurgeon can't be more difficult than historical racism, right? Sometimes I almost wish I was one of them, and then I come to my senses.

This is yet another place where fundies lose me on their assertion that they live biblically. Jesus, the son of God, the very one that they claim to follow and aspire to be like... treated women as equals. He spoke to them in public (a big deal at the time he lived in), took meals with them (again, a big deal as this was not commonly done) and had dear friends that he associated freely with (an example: Mary and Martha, in fact it's quite notable that Martha was mentioned first as one that Jesus loved because that suggests a very good and close friendship between the two rather than by association because of her brother Lazarus).
Apparently they don't really think that Jesus was, as Colossians 2:9 puts it, "the fullness of the Godhead bodily" because if he were the embodiment of Fundie God™ he'd have told Mary to get her butt in the kitchen with Martha where she belonged so he could talk shop with Lazarus instead of gently encouraging Martha that maybe, y'know, food for the spirit and soul were just as important as food for the body. (Although I like to think that Jesus was still grateful for Martha's cooking because if she hadn't prepared anything everyone would have gone hungry, LOL)

What I find most striking about Jinger is that she seems to have changed the most since meeting her husband out of all the girls. Jessa, Jill and Joy seem to have stayed more or less the same in behavior, style etc. But Jinger's style and behavior has completely changed. Because I'm a little bit bored at the moment I made this collage of pictures of Jinger before she met Jeremy (left) and pictures of her after meeting Jeremy (bottom right); sorry if that is creepy but...no shame!

The difference is so striking that I sometimes wonder if Jinger just adapts to her environment that easily with her expressions and her mood or if she really has changed over the years as a person that much. @eveandadam That peace sign photo is fricken hilarious.

With that said, I would say it's not any one thing that has caused Jinger to grow or change. She married young, she is still finding herself and growing as a person. She is still learning what she likes and experimenting (with fashion, nothing fun because fundie life.) I would say there's also a lot of it that also comes from being married to Jeremy, their status within his church, and his clear love of style and having a curated public image. But I think it's just a combination of having some freedom outside of the confines of her parent's home, persuasion from Jeremy, and her just expressing herself as she grows.

To Jinger's credit we can admit that she has always said she has an interest in shopping and big cities. Now that she is married to Jeremy it appears she is just growing into that personality more. Of course, I still maintain that this is all done under Jeremy's carefully curated thumb and what he wants in a wife.

I can see how you might think that on the surface based on photos, but I actually don't think she has. It seemed like in her late teens/early 20s, before she met Jeremy, she went through a maturation where she started to grow out of the rebellious phase, from what I observed from the final seasons of 19KaC. I actually think she's MORE confident and content in who she is than either Jill, Joy or Jana. This is all based solely on reality TV/social observation of course. ;)

Hm... I don't know, what does maturation mean? Smiling more and wearing more feminine clothes? Because that's what she is doing now, whereas before she made more different faces (other than smiling) and wore plaid shirts, just different things.

Does maturation for a woman mean that she has to smile more? That's a serious question, it really seems that in some societies it is! What about the US?

No, I don't think so. And I'm not sure how you define feminine, because if anything she seems to be dressing much trendier and less feminine, at least in my opinion. Less pastels, darker colors, more hipstery than her sisters and than in years past. For me, maturing means getting over the rebellious teen years and actually appreciating your family and being confident and at peace with who you are. Remember how she literally wanted to not do things, like the fencing episode, or the time in Japan when doing the geisha makeup was embarrassing for her? She's become more confident, it seems. But, I do recognize that at the same time, maturing in this family vs others is different. It's hard to tell the difference between growing out of your rebellious teen years (a normal thing to do) and finally sucking in the koolaid by following your headship (not normal).

To me Jinger always seemed a little different from her siblings, personality-wise. She just had a spark that wasn't in the others. Maybe someone should name a forum after her? ;)

I do agree with you on all that but I think feminine clothes is something different for everyone. I think she dresses more feminine than before she met Jeremy. Of course she is wearing pants now an before that only skirts (with the exeption of s ports pants inside of the thh). But before, she wore plaid shirts, and button up shirts with collar and her her assecoires weren't there at all, except for the occational sun glasses. Now its more dangly earrings, frufru and chic.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
