Maxwell 13: And Another One Bites the Dust - John is Engaged

I don't like to snark at people's appearance, but barefoot on the gravel, really? And why the umbrella? They look just weird.

But then again it's Maxhell so why am I surprised.

And I loved how forced that engagement post sounded. Yep, Steves not in control of that one!

Sarah took the pictures. That skirt is so long Chelsy has to hold it up. Steve, you’re an asshole.

The Maxborg Collective have assimilated her.

Given that Chelsy and Allison were just in Kansas, were the pictures taken then specifically so that the Maxwells could use them on their blog at some point? And if so, had she brought clothes with her that were appropriate for an engagement shoot that she may not have been expecting, since they'd already done one at her home? I wonder if she ended up literally borrowing clothes from one of the Maxwells for the shoot if she was mostly prepared for doing actual work. (Although they *were* there over the weekend, I think, so was this her clothing for church?)

We had chosen the path of not posting about a relationship until after the wedding for the privacy of our children. However, the Bontragers’ posted about the engagement, so it is now public, and we re-evaluated.

Steve,

The wonderful thing about having adult children, is that you no longer have to choose.  Your son is nearly 30 years old, and far past the point of needing mommy and daddy to make decisions for him.  In fact, this announcement should be coming from him, not you.  Your need for control just makes you look pathetic, and I'm a little embarrassed for you.

In conclusion, take a load off.  There's absolutely no need for you to evaluate or reevaluate.  It's not your show anymore.

Have a nice day! :greetings-waveyellow:

PS- I would consider myself an absolute failure as a mother if I was still making choices for my 35 year old daughter, but that's just me.

I'm not surprised Chelsy is in a maxi skirt. At least she's not wearing one of those modesty shirts under her top though.

That skirt is too dang long for her - she is holding it up with one hand, for pete's sake.

It is a Jill Duggar-type knit skirt.

Nah, that skirt is still too tight/revealing to be a Maxskirt. The Maxwell girls don't do flowy - and also, I'd say she's a size smaller than all of the girls anyway.

If it is hers, I'm sure it's not something she planned to have formal photos taken in though.

At least she had time to do her hair properly though, and I like her better without less eyeliner anyway. And I bet the lack of shoes was her choice.

What is it with fundie women and bare feet?

I have no idea, but for Chelsy anyway I think it is tied up with the whole "farm girl" thing. I think she's a bit of a hippie at heart.

Can't imagine her pulling that off on December 30 though.

Some fundies live in rural areas and going barefoot in rural areas of the country is fairly common. Of course I'm only talking about good weather. It's not like people go barefoot in the middle of January.

I think it's also the fact that fundies don't have to get used to wearing shoes all the time growing up. My kids MUST wear shoes to school five days a week. These homeschooled fundies rarely have to put shoes on if they are just being homeschooled at the kitchen table.

Another possibility is that larger fundie families may not have the money to always have shoes that fit for every single child. Kids grow out of shoes quickly and it can get really expensive. So they may only have beat up hand me downs that don't fit well. I've always guessed that the duggar girls got used to flip flops because they are cheap and easy to slip on and off. I imagine the older duggars went barefoot for a lot of their childhood and flip flops were a way for them to wear shoes but not feel like it.

John is looking a bit gaunt in the MaxPics. Is he okay?

Fasting to repent for his worldly decision not to have a no touch engagement and to wipe the image of his fiancées defrauding knees from his mind.

I bet Mary (the creative) will be sneaking over to play with Chelsy's makeup. I actually think the Maxwell girls have worn very light natural looking makeup in wedding pics before, but I bet the eyeliner and bright colours are calling to her.

And hey Steve - I know how you can have a wedding that you can 90% control - marry off one of your damn daughters. Then you can plan the wedding as much as you like.

I also doubt Chelsy will be happy at the Church of the Holy Assisted Living Facility, though if John pushed it she would probably submit.

The Bontragers are very active in their home church. They are involved in the young unmarried and youth groups, they participate in weddings and showers and they all take part in a yearly Christmas play extravaganza. It's obviously a huge part of Chelsy and her siblings social lives (Mitchell met his wife there) and I think she'll want that in Kansas. She will want big church baby showers and baptisms and socialisation with non Maxwells and events to plan for and cook for. I also think she will miss performing - she seems to genuinely enjoy it.

Allison's blog - https://www.fromallison.com/

Do you think Allison went out of her way to demonstrate in that post that she was not required to chaperone Chelsy on this trip?

I've never read her blog before, and maybe it's just her style, but it seemed to me that the awkward "I wasn't planning to go but then I realized I could" sentences were intended to explain that it was her (and Chelsy's) choice, and not a parental requirement as you'd see with Duggars or Bateses.

I'm pretty sure the Bates and Duggars would let an e gaged daughter drive to Maxhell alone, safe in the knowledge that there are 3 heavily brainwashed Maxwell daughters constantly available to chaperone and that Steve wouldn't let a son be alone with his fiancé.

Chelsy and Allison almost certainly stayed in the girls bedroom, ate and went to church with the immediate Maxwell family and were tagged by Sarah or Anna when working on the house. I know chaperones are usually for the girls protection and provided by the girls family, but Steve would never leave his son alone in a house with those two knee flashing harlots with their painted faces.

I don't know if the Bons are are as psycho about chaperoning as the Duggars. I'm sure they chaperone, but I can imagine them giving their kids some space. Maybe it's because I keep remembering their Mennonite background. I don't believe Mennonites are as anal about always having eyes on the couple like the Duggars. So I kind of wonder if it bothers Steve that when John is at the Bon farm, he may have less courtship rules. That's most likely why the two announcement pictures are so different.

hahahahah i guess i stand corrected, they really were totally thrown by the bontragers post. but this means it took them OVER A WEEK to come up with a response to the post.  A week to come up with THAT post?! do you think it's because they had to wait and schedule time to talk about a response?

ETA: i clicked on their registry and the first thing on the list was a Lifetime 25011 Fold In Half Commercial Table, 6 Feet, White Granite.  Where I come from, that's called a beer pong table. Rock on, Chelsy & John. ;)

I imagine that Chelsy being at the Maxwell home is uncomfortable for her. The Bontragers are touchy people. Like the adult siblings give each other massages. The Maxwells don't seem touchy at all. I bet Chelsy is so uncomfortable with Steve staring at them making sure they don't touch. But then the Bontrager farm is more laid back and the chaperones are probably busy doing other things like making dinner and they feel more relaxed and comfortable to sit close and put a head on a shoulder.

Holy shit I just saw the wedding registry. Literally every single Maxwell, in-laws and blood-related, are in the wedding party, except for Steve and Teri. I'm guessing Drew, Benji, Josh and Danny will be used as ring-bearers, and that all the granddaughters will be flower girls seeing as Rebecca Bontrager is a bridesmaid.  So that's...

14 bridesmaids

11 groomsmen

6 flower girls

4 ring-bearers (potentially)

Fuck me that's a lot! All the grandkids will be mobile by then bar Benjamin, so maybe it'd be 3 ring-bearers and Benji would be looked after by Steve and Teri or Gigi, unless they decide to employ the wagon thing (maybe Josh pulling, Drew walking behind and Danny and Benji inside).

Plus Anna Marie will be pretty heavily pregnant by that time. "Look, you're gonna be a Maxwell wife, this is your job now".

The only non related person Chelsy is having as BM is Charity Brown. Chelsy's pastor is named Joseph Brown so I am guessing she's the pastor's daughter.

Yes.  I just tried and failed to find the photo though.  Can anyone help?

And I've been giggling on and off all day thinking of Steve's scheduled announcement after the wedding being ruined for him because the Bontragers behaved like normal people.

Here ya go. And yeah, screw Christopher for messing up the balance of the photo because he's so freaking insecure and needs everyone to know that is *his* woman.

I wonder how  many times the photographer asked them to move closer to the rest of the group before he/she just gave up and took the picture? He is practically pulling her away from the group.

Chris looks like he's backing away and dragging AM with him. She does look stunning though.

I find it odd that Chelsy would have her sisters-in-law in the wedding party. I understand the Maxwell women, they are John's sisters, but Melanie, AM and Elissa whom Chelsy has only know for a few months? Weird.

Ohh HAHAHAHA that umbrella prop is precious!

You know how it came about: SteveriNO saw the photos from Iowa and after having a moderate apopleptic fit, dragged Terifying into the bedroom and blushed and stammered: “That Jezebel permits our wayward son to hug her such that he may .... may  .... feel her mother’s milker!!! Instruct Sarah to fashion a prop that makes it look as Maxblog writer they HAVE to stand so close together!  OH TERI, woe be upon you for not breaking that boy’s rebellious spirit!!!”

And so it was, that  the bumbershoot was  put into play. Thus sayeth the MJB, who enjoyed the best cheeseburger ever served at Lotawata just hours before the Maxborg caved!  Don’t think their food ships well but @Palimpsest, you get here, lunch is my treat!

Also—this bullsheet of “we’ll see” by the Maxblog writer annoys me to no end. “We’ll see” is what a parent tells a child who asks if they can do / have something. The whole world is not your inferior, Steve!
