Licensed plumbers are in demand and can make really good money. If Kelton's parents just wanted him to have a bit of a "Christian college experience" (and perhaps a chance to meet a future fundy wife), they should have just sent him to some Bible College for a 2-year associates degree (PCC has a few, but not finance: http://www.pcci.edu/academics/degreesoffered.aspx)  or to Crown for the 1-year "certificate in Christian Living." Is Crown's finance degree at all similar to a business degree (I'm too lazy to look)? I ask because, in high school, my friend's boyfriend was in the electrician program at the tech school and making about $20 an hour already (at 18 in 1998, this was super impressive) and he went to college for a business degree. I asked him why he was going and he said he wanted the business education so he could run his own business later on. I don't know how cost-effective or useful that is/was for him, but that was his logic. 

Of course, he was also going to a real, accredited university, so there's that.

That whole family (er, interconnected families) are pretty prolific on IG. They very much present themselves as hipster Christians; at first glance, you definitely wouldn't think that they're as fundie as they are. But then you see who they are friends with, and which photos they like, and...yeah. While none of them are at the Campana's infamous anti-choice protests, they're obviously in agreement with them.

Maybe Kelton's end goal is to take over his uncle's company and that's why he went to college and majored in finance. That's certainly lucrative enough.

A little bit off topic (wanted to mention this about last weeks show) - so obviously at the beginning we had the swimming lesson with a ton of the younger kids and grandkids and everyone was in modest swimwear, including the teachers, but something piqued my interest at the end. Zach made some lame joke about swimming and that he could beat Michael Phelps. Now wait, they all have to swim in super modest attire but it's okay to watch Phelps and all the other swimmers in their very much not-modest swimwear? Anyone else notice that part? Maybe just me, LOL.

Their BS in Business outside of the Bible bits looks it could potentially pass at an associate level in business. I think it depends if the class actually teach the subject and how rigor. Since calculus isn't on the degree chart makes me lean towards that the degree is barely at the associate level.

Like does the accounting class actually teaches how to balance the books or is it just the percentage one needs to figure in to donate to the church.

If I can I think I'm going to try and dig around for a syllabus of their accounting class or at the very least their Algebra Course. I still have some of my old ones from 2009 and might be able to compare things to a point

not sure where you're seeing this from the PCC website? I'm finding this: https://www.pcci.edu/Academics/Divisions/ProfessionalStudies/Business/. They have a Bachelor's business degree and a separate Associate's business degree, so I doubt their Bachelor's program could be equivalent of a secular Associate's in business. Their 4-year program also has the typical subspecialties of a typical business degree. and looking at their recommended 4-year curriculum (i clicked on accounting to find an example) they most definitely require college algebra, business calc, business law, etc.

I was comparing it to the flow charts I had when I studied busniess a bit. All of their core business classes (and any of the other classes besides bible studies) were ones that were expected to be taken the first 4 semesters of college. While at crown it's spread out in 4 years.

Its interesting really - i fully see the benefit of doing such a degree if you want to own and run your own business. In Aus you would probably do a business degree of sorts instead but would include the same topic. My nephew is the same age doing exactly the same and its working out very well for him so good for Kelton and good for Josie coz she is one of my fave fundies

Eh, fair enough. Comparing the Pensacola Christian business degree plans with ones from my university (large, christian, well-established academically) aren't terribly far off though. Business law, advanced/international business law, business-specific quantitive analysis-type classes, coursework on the particulars of personal/corporate/small-business handlings for finance or accounting or management, plus electives from PCC (not sure what Crown's programs look like, they seem a bit more wishy-washy then PCC)......those are all what seem to be pretty standard junior/senior level learning for various areas of business.

I was using Crown as the comparison. Forgot Kelton was PCC not Crown. There's no math after Probability & Stats after the second semester. I still think at least Crown's program is barely a counts as a Associate's at any other college

Not sure how many people actually watch the show, but I wonder about all of the obvious product placement this season. They basically did an entire episode as a Cracker Barrel commercial and this week was AARP. (I'm pretty sure there was another, but I can't recall.) I'm wondering who profits? UP obviously makes money from the commercials, but does this cash go directly to the Bates as spokespeople? This is the only UP show I watch so I'm not sure if this is par for the course..

UP gets paid for product placement or gets something in return.  The Bateses get paid based on their contract with UP which is usually $x per half hour episode.  Bonuses would normally apply if they had an outstanding episode or season based on ratings.

That was so bad last night!! I was rolling my eyes. It was like The Truman Show when the wife keeps stopping to do commercials.

They really addressed the Michael fertility issue in last night's episode.  Now we know that she's seeing a real fertility specialist and is having a lot of testing done.  I had a lot of sympathy for her.  That's a lot to go through.  I'm glad that Brandon is such a good support for her.  

The ice cream bit was funny.  Katie and Josie are looking more and more alike.  I'm having a hard time telling them apart sometimes.  

The AARP plug was eye rolling.  I guess I never thought about the fact that they probably have a significant senior demographic.

I'm a little surprised that the Bateseseses would have the AARP advertising on their show.  Either they don't know that the AARP fights to preserve Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, which many conservatives don't like (and the GOP pols are always trying to undermine)  or they just didn't have much choice in the matter.

Did Katie dye her hair?  I think the reason Josie and Katie are looking so much alike is that Katie is suddenly so much blonder. Also, I've been sort of smiling at all the plumbing innuendos the moderators can make when/if Josie starts officially courting that guy.
