Marq Vincent Perez was arrested by Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents March 3 at a home at 2311 N. Jecker St. in Victoria.

In federal court Thursday in Corpus Christi, investigators presented evidence of Perez's involvement in the mosque fire. He is accused of burglarizing the Victoria Islamic Center on Jan. 22 and then again Jan. 28, at which time he also set it on fire.

According to a federal court document, Perez possessed an unregistered destructive device used to set fires. He is involved in a "hate crime presently being investigated," the document said. He also "represents a serious danger to the community and that witnesses against him may be in danger if he is released."

"After hearing arguments from both the government and the defense, the judge ultimately found Perez to be a serious threat to the community and a flight risk and ordered him into custody pending further criminal proceedings," Dodge said.

I hope he just spent his last hours as a free person for a very long time back on March 3rd.
