Girl Defined

I'd knock these dumb clucks down point by point, but it would be too easy.

As was said above, their looks give them entree into the privilege that comes from male acceptance. I'd say "give them 20 or 30 years and see how they react when they become invisible to men," but I think they might  be too steeped in the Kool-Aid even then.

Some years back, I started noticing certain pretty but tight-lipped middle-aged women walking around places like shopping malls: Exquisitely coiffed, dressed, and made up, they seemed pissed at the world that they weren't getting the fawning male attention they'd felt entitled to all their lives.

Oh, and the male "leadership" shizz? Excuse me, but when a man does something admirable or worthwhile, I attribute it to his humanity, not to his gender identity. His DNA, genitalia, or gender identity don't entitle him to be bumped to the beginning of the line.

Oh god. I can't even stand watching. They're so blonde and smug. At least their stupid web site lets people refute their crap in the comments (or at least did, last I was brave enough to wade through some of the horsesh*t they write.)

I am browsing their blog. I just can't with these two. A kiss is a "very expensive treasure box" and one must not just be a virgin at the altar but also a "mind-virgin". And if that doesn't make you feel like vomiting, "3 Reasons Jesus is More Satisfying Than Cute Guys" should do it.

I'm sure there are many things I 'must not' do. There aren't that many and there never was back before my pre-same-sex-harlot-days of dating in my teens. Being a mind-virgin was never on the top of my list back then; I was too busy daydreaming over things like the girl I liked, her hair, and how she made me laugh. If I had known I was committing adultery with her in my head, I would have been amusingly disappointed. After all, it's not like I'd imagined we'd done much together in my head.

It just sets too high a standard - it's so normal for young teens and adults to have thoughts about others they like. Looking at someone doesn't equal sex. Maybe that's why for some people sex can be a bit disturbing. If you can't even look at someone but are then expected to have sex with them, what are the odds of you being traumatised?

Also something I was thinking about: I have previously suffered from intrusive thoughts. Happy one minute, then suddenly thinking 'I wonder what would happen if I pushed this person over right now?' They ranged from playful to really depressing at times. What if, for fundies, thinking about sex or partners, which is normal for us, is an intrusive thought for them? Is it only intrusive because they truly believe it is, or because their family and/or congregation has been heavy-handed with them? And what do they do to stop the thought?

I've been hate reading their blog for a couple of years. They are hateful, awful people. Fall down the rabbit hole at your own risk.

The matching make-up in all the videos...

All I can think is how do people actually take these two seriously?

I am going to admit straight up that I just bought the book.  I know it's giving them $$$, but I'm just curious as to what they have to say.

I want to read their book because (I admit) I have read through most of their blog and I am so curious

Everyone was talking about how distracting the hand talking is, and yet, i was distracted by the green eyebrows. Anywho, So, I just can't with this anti feminism, women who want the same basic rights and don't want a luxury tax on their menstruation products think that they are god, mind frame.  I wish them a long and happy life of having babies, cooking meals, vacuuming and being mind virgins. Those green eyebrows though...

Today I came across this blog article about stay at home daughters, written by former SAHD Bailey Bergmann Steger. She talks about some of our favorite snark topics like the Botkins and Jasmine Baucham. The editor of the blog, Ashley Easter, classifies the SAHD movement into three waves, and guess who are wave #3? (Spelling and grammar are as in the original; I was real tempted to haul out a red pen.)

Quote

I love how this post shows a differentiation between the different waves of the Stay-At-Home Daughter Movement. I have identified 3 waves thus far. The first wave being inspired by the book "So Much More" written by the Botkin sisters, the second is inspired by "Joyfully at Home" written by Jasmine Bauchman (daughter of Vodie Bauchman), and the third wave (not mentioned in the post) is inspired by "Girl Defined" written by the Baird sisters. The first wave had a victorian era flair. For instance, many in this wave wore only long skirts and long hair. Each wave since has been repackaged to appear more modern. Women in wave 2 may wear pants and those in wave 3 may even emphasize fashionable "modest" clothing. Despite the updates, the basic tenents in the paragraph above are the same in each wave.

Ashley Easter needed to proofread her part, but I liked Bailey Bergmann's post and I would love to have a way to force Lori Alexander to read and respond.

That was was an interesting article.  I'm totally glad that she went out from being a SAHD to going to school, even if it was just christian studies.  Every one of my aunts majored in Christian studies, and do you know why? It was because they had all the grand plans to be the great preachers wife.  My mom was actually the first to get an actual degree, in nursing, and leave behind the whole marry a pastor thing. It kind of terrifies me that this could have been me.... With that said, I hope she keep writing and doing her thing.  The blog gave good perspective about whats going on in their heads.

Check your library. I was really surprised to see mine had a copy. (Spoiler alert: it's not a hard read at all.)

I already have and we don't have it. But you reminded me, we have a really good inter-library loan system, so if other library systems have it, I can get it requested through mine

She (Ashley Easter) also has a blog entry directly addressing the "Girl Defined" list. 7 Reasons I am a Feminist (Counter to GirlDefined) It was an interesting read. I may check out the rest of the blog when I get some time.

This is from the Onion, right.  RIGHT?

Where is the bible are these gender roles spelled out clearly?  Just curious.

Oh, everywhere in the very most relevant books to today's political climate- the books of Malarkey, Hokum, Drivel, Twaddle...

For example, Malarkey 1:140 (one of Lori's favorites) says "A righteous woman never darkens her own doorstep, but remains inside her home- she pierces every barrier while asleep to all the world."

Totally obvious- the Christian thing to do is to hide inside, nap a lot, and stab holes in your diaphragm.

But I digress, here's one that's relevant to the video-

Drivel 31:01 says "She must be always as a child- blonde of hair, bright of eye, blank every morning like a tablet of wax and eager for her master's stylus."

I also must say that I'm curious where the virginity arms race for Good Christian Kids will end. When I was in high school it was all about not having (PIV) sex until marriage- and most of us would have been shocked by anal... but otherwise, hey, the President said that wasn't sex...

When my sister was in high school, that was definitely sex, but hands-only stuff and dry humping was still open to debate.

Not too long later, that wasn't OK, but heavy making out above the belt was still fine.

By the time my youngest sister was in high school tongue kissing was a little racy for the average good Christian girl. Maybe in a long-term relationship, maybe.

Now KISSING AT ALL or THINKING ABOUT SEX has migrated from fundies to the mainstream.

Masturbation was always a special case- even I was young girls would never publicly admit to doing any such thing, but it was pretty much expected boys did. I'm suspect it's become less accepted for boys and more condemned for girls.

So... what's the goal here? Are fundies going to start getting their kids hormones to suppress puberty until marriage?

One thing that has been interesting both in Fundy speak and in more mainstream conservative politickingis the use of feminists as code for all that is wrong with the world (for a value or wrong meaning infringing on male white Christian patriarchy)

Literally LOL'd at the 'back in the long ago, feminists used to hate porn but now they all strip and shake their bodies around for everyone to see and they like it now and it's BAAAAAD!'

1) Lots of feminists and women and feminist women hate porn because they feel it's damaging to women and they wear modest clothing that they don't strip off in public or ever.

2) Lots of feminists and women and feminist women are the opposite.

It's not a religion, it's a choice!

To be honest, this is a big problem I have with mainstream, third wave, "sex positive" feminism. It has become very unfashionable to speak against porn and women who do, like Gail Dines whose TED Talk I highly recommend, are severely criticized and censored.

But like you said, there are feminists who hold both pro- and anti- porn views, as just a simple google search would reveal. "Feminism" is not a monolithic entity!

I'm kidding of course, I am a proud feminist. Equality for ALL!

Our Bible Camp always had a time set aside in The Schedule for the kids in each cabin or dorm to meet with their counselor to talk about spiritual matters. The timing was staggered so that when all the girls were having their meetings the boys were swimming, and vice-versa, so that no defrauding could take place when the girls walked down to the lake.  We knew there was one day in the week when the male counselors spoke to their young charges about the evils of masturbation and we always knew that "the talk" had occurred when the boys emerged from their cabins either smirking or red-faced.
