I get pretty frequent UTI's, and every time I go to the doctor they ask me my symptoms, I pee in a cup, they come back and say "you are not pregnant and you have a UTI", which I always already know both of. I don't think they ever even ask if I'm pregnant, they just do the test anyway.

I"m pretty sure it's part of the protocol and likely demanded by licensing boards and insurers. Because if they gave you something that harmed a fetus without  checking for themselves that you aren't pregnant that would be one hell of a lawsuit. And there are people who think they can't possibly be pregnant who turn out to be. Really I don't see that as a problem.

I had completely elective surgery once and they just made me either take a pregnancy test or sign a paper saying I wasn't pregnant. I did think it was strange they didn't require the test, but I know they didn't because I chose the paper (I was on the pill, but of course in hindsight I should have just taken the test anyway).

The last season of counting on has just started showing in Australia. Here's what I don't understand: it's pretty bloody obvious that jinjers courtship did not start on the day they filmed it, why act like it did? What's the point? Why the lying and messing with timelines? Just be freaking honest!! Vent over. Why am I even watching it? It's very tedious and awkward to watch. (snip)

I don't understand this either; why couldn't they have set up Jinger and Jeremy each telling the story of how they met, what they like about each other, how it's all been sparkles and rainbows, etc.? They could have just explained it instead of re-enacting the whole thing. Then the filmed events could have just focused on Jeremy meeting her family and going head-to-head with getting approval from Jim-Bob, Jeremy taking everyone on a tour at his stomping grounds in Laredo, generally "developing" Jeremy as a character (cough), and some side-plot talking heads from Jinger's siblings (with updates from Jill and Jessa, of course). Then they could have ended the season with the proposal because of course it was going to happen. Then they could have stretched wedding planning all throughout this upcoming season -- which they could do because normally weddings take forever to plan and there would be plenty of things to do and talk about -- before ending the season with the wedding day.

There! That's two whole seasons with just the courting, engagement, and wedding of one Duggar! The target viewership would be genuinely satisfied with getting to know JinJer more in-depth, so I don't know why they had to rush in another courtship with Joy. Unless I'm mistaken, someone on another thread was speculating that there might be some sabotage involved in the shoddy editting. Maybe TLC wants rid of Counting On without burning bridges with the Duggars, using the excuse that the show "just isn't doing well". Who knows; it's pretty believable given how bad the show actually is even just technically speaking.

I grew up in a town that has drive up liquor stores. People always find that a bit odd. It's about 20,000 people and has liquor stores or casinos with off sale beer every few blocks. There's really nothing else to do in small towns in the Midwest.

In Nevada liquor can be bought 24/7 from anywhere licensed to sell. One of our grocery stores put special caps on the bottles because of people coming  in in the early hours and partying without paying.  You do have to be 21.

When I first came here at 18 to CT, we used to go across the state line to NY state where the drinking age was 18.

Thank you! I've only been on the NatureThroid but my body quickly stopped responding (according to the blood tests) even though we were upping the dose. I am one of those for whom the ACA raised my rates if I kept the same level of care, so I chose to stop treatment rather than continuing to pay out of pocket for treatment that was not effective. But I am going to look into the Thyrovanz and Holy Basil.

If I ever get a promotion or a good raise, I tell myself that I will get the good insurance again and go to see an endocrinologist and try again.

It can be really dangerous to stop thyroid meds. There are other options out there. For the person who asked about NDT, I take Armour and it doesn't smell bad.

I'm in North Las Vegas. The stores that are open 24/7 put those caps on the liquor bottles. The ones that close don't.

I was supposed to skype with a student in Reno last week but he couldn't get out of his house due to the storms and stuff. Mt Charleston got clobbered with snow and there were some flurries on the west side of the valley. I'm closer to the speedway and Nellis so most of that crap dissipates before it gets this far east.

1) I haven't lived in a state/country with blue laws in a decade and hearing all these rando laws from around the states and world make me hella glad I can buy my booze while I get my scripts at CVS. Also if the bay area has laws about bar closing times I don't think they are enforced. Definitely been out at clubs/bars past 3am and they were still going full steam when I left.

2) I'm hypothyroid also. I know a lot of people have problems with synthroid and levothyroxine. I got put on a dose of levo 8 years ago and have bounced from generic to generic to generic (moving, change of coverage, etc) with no issues. I think I'm in the minority though. I hope everyone struggling to find the right med and the right dose finds it!

3) I agree that Jinger looks great in the last video. Way more relaxed looking.

When I grew up I was always allowed to drink the foam (not sure if it is the right word, the white stuff on beer). I think especially in South Germany beer is not really considered alcohol. Many women (at least those I know) do not like beer, but for me it is my favorite type of alcohol. Screw those cocktails and everything else. :-D

Are there "Schnapspralinen" (chocolate filled with hard liquor, aka the best thing ever) in the US? And if there are, do you need to be 21 to buy them?

Not from the US but from your neighbouring country The Netherlands ;-) We do have pralines filled with liquor too, they're called "kersenbonbons" (cherry pralines). Even a kid can buy them at the grocery store. I think it is said that you would have to eat 40 pralines to have the equal amount of alcohol in your blood like when drinking one glass of beer.

A friend of mine, who was born and raised hardcore evangelical (but not quite fundy), hosted a girls night at her house once with a Jane Austen movie and tea, pastries and chocolate. She bought the chocolates with liquor in them for the event, too. Two of her friends that she grew up in the hardcore evangelical church with got all worked up about alcoholism and sin and had to leave because of them. Another one didn't quite disapprove but refused to try one because she had "compromised some standards" but she was not going to "drink and drive"! No matter what anyone told her, she was certain that everyone who ate one was drunk and should not leave driving a car two hours later.

I used to have a friend like that.  We'd go have dinner before a movie, enjoy a beer with dinner, walk across the mall to the theater and she'd be uptight after the movie was over about her friends "drinking and driving".  Since she'd never had a drink before and her church was one of those fundie light churches that banned alcohol, she had no concept that one beer with dinner wouldn't be enough to do much of anything, especially after a full meal and two plus hours in the theater.

She fell deeper into her evangelical church, got more judgy and eventually stopped responding to her heathen friends.

My mother can be a bit like that. She and I went to a gala fundraiser a few years ago and I had one glass of wine during the cocktail hour followed by a four course meal and two hour program. When we left about four hours later, she was all paranoid about my driving home. She grew up in a family of mainline Protestant teatotalers. In general, we just never have a drink around her because of it.

I'm guessing after Marjorie they don't want to film significant others until they know for sure it's going to work. I'm guessing she may have even been engaged (asked JB's permission to ask) when they started filming. TLC prob doesn't want to shell out money also if the relationship isn't going to last.

Not exactly along the fundy/alcohol subject, but I dated a conservative Christian guy (during my born again phase), and during our dates he would be ALL over me, very handsy, kissing and all that jazz, then he would feel guilty and we would have to pray for forgiveness and strength so it didn't happen again.  Which it did.

This reminds me, I used to work with a girl of Finnish heritage. At a fair with lots of international foods, she bought these chocolates from the Finland booth that had vodka in them. She brought them to work and they were really good, so we all had 2 or 3 of them. I'm from Canada and most of those chocolates have very little, if any at all, alcohol content so we thought nothing of it.

Not these.  Only after we started to feel a bit too happy, we looked at the box.  Each one had about a shot of vodka in them, with a pretty decent alcohol content. :pb_lol:  Nobody got in trouble, because my boss had a few herself, and we all had a great day at work!

There is a place here that makes chocolates with vodka in them. Crazy expensive but worth it. I hate vodka but like the way it tastes with the chocolate. Since I am a snacker,  I ate all of them while watching TV before I realized it. They didn't make me drunk but I did throw up soon after. I have not bought any since then.

I am not a crazy fundy but I admit to being paranoid with drinking and driving. I usually won't have more than one drink and then I need there to be four or five hours to pass before I need to drive or I don't drink. Alcohol doesn't get me buzzed and no matter how much I drink no one can ever tell I have been drinking. I know this because friends have to tried to get me drunk on many occasions, usually at all inclusive resorts where alcohol is free flowing.  I never feel any different with drinking so it doesn't make me feel relaxed or happy. So I get worried that I can't tell that the alcohol is having an effect on me. I have no idea how much I need to drink before I hit the legal limit. So I just either don't drink or only do it if I don't immediately have to drive. I am ok with not drinking and being the designated driver.

I am paranoid about drinking and driving too. Part of it is complete opposite of you- one drink and I'm feeling buzzed. Two or three and I start getting dizzy/sick feeling. The other part is my mom abuses alcohol and I have some bad memories from childhood of her driving me and my sister drunk. There were times we would be crying and asking her not to drive but she would anyway. She finally got pulled over while drunk when I was 17 (not in the car) and that scared her for a bit but I wouldn't be surprised if she is back to her old ways again ( I don't have much contact with her these days). I gave up drinking completely over a year ago but prior to that I was almost always the self-appointed DD or I made sure there was someone I could call for a ride if need be.

@socalrules I'm a lot like you when it comes to drinking and driving. I used to be exactly the same way, not being affected by alcohol at all... I'm more of a lightweight now, but I also will only have a tiny bit to drink if I know I have to drive, and wait several hours. Usually with a big meal in there too. And yeah, I have no problem with being the designated driver and having none at all.

@JesSky03 I can relate. My uncle has been a terrible alcoholic all my life, to where he can actually never have a drivers licence again after losing it due to drunk driving so many times. It definitely complicated my relationship with alcohol. I'm sorry that happened to you though, it was at a distance for me but it had to have been tough seeing your mom like that.

I do not like night driving at all, and rarely, if ever, drink during the day. I do not drink and drive at all. It's just not my comfort level.

I never drink and drive. I won't even have one drink and still be willing to risk it. If an accident should happen, I would never want to have the "If I hadn't had that drink, could I have prevented it?" thoughts running through my head.

1) I understand both their reactions, and they were what you would expect of them considering their personalities. But, yes, it was out of line.

I am dealing with my extremely Catholic mother in law right now and becoming very intolerant of people shoving their religion down my throat. I think I would smack whomever did that to my child, even if they had god intentions.

2) I hope you are feeling well.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier - haven't been on for like a five days :P
And I don't know if it was intentional but you wrote "god intentions" versus "good intentions", and I feel like it's an awesome Freudian slip/autocorrect ~ so bonus brownie points for you :]

And aw, thanks!  I got a port put in for my infusions ~ I get them weekly now due to a genetic condition, and boy oh boy do I love having a port, versus having to deal with IV's and my small veins, and bruises (I looked like a heroin addict, ouch).

Alright, time to catch up on FJ <3

I struggle with consuming any alcohol and then driving. The other day I had a mimosa with a heavy carb lunch and a glass of water alongside it and felt awkward. I'm not very comfortable with it... I wont drink after consuming any liquor at all. Will do a beer or something similar and drive but nothing else. I'll only even do that if I had a big meal with it.

Part of this could be because it was that strict in Japan... one drink could put you over the legal limit.

Haha...maybe it was god guiding my fingers .

Sorry you have to deal with all that crap. I am dealing with a lot of health issues myself (lots of needles, I am glad I don't really mind them) and it sucks. Sending you good thoughts.
