What Now? - (Resource List)

I just wanted to let everyone know I haven't forgotten about organising this thread. My poor ancient laptop is done with me, and I'm waiting for the replacement. I'll work more on this when new one comes in hopefully late next week and this will probably end up under resources in the header so keep the good ideas coming.

I made a few little graphics and pinned them on the FJ twitter account for people to use when trying to discuss politics.  I'm going to leave them here, in case anyone would like to save them for use on other sites.

How do you find out what local events your representatives will be at? I think showing up, asking hard questions and making videos of the replies if possible would go a long way in revealing these folks for who they really are.

My congressman is having a meet up next week to discuss things going forward. He is one of the few reps that really pushed for electors to be briefed on intelligence RE the Russian hack, and in general seems to have a spine, so I'm hopeful about him. But I think going in general is a good way to push them. I'd follow their FB pages and twitter accounts bc they tend to broadcast this.

I know this is an older post, but I thought I'd add another organization.  The Disability Rights and Education Fund.  I am disabled and benefited many MANY years ago with job training and placement because I had a "qualifying disability". I won't get on my soap box (much),  I'll just say that spending the money to assist people who are disabled to get and keep jobs gives back to society ten fold.  People become independent, pay taxes ... and so on.  https://dredf.org/   That is all.. carry on.

"12 ways to disrupt Donald Trump's first 100 days as president"

Quote

This originally appeared on Robert Reich's blog.

Donald Trump’s agenda for his first 100 days in office includes repealing environmental regulations, Obamacare and the Dodd-Frank Act, giving the rich and big corporations a huge tax cut, and putting in place a cabinet that doesn’t believe in the Voting Rights Act or public schools or Medicare or the Fair Housing Act.

Our 100 days of resistance begins a sustained and powerful opposition. Here’s what you can do (it will take about an hour of your time each day):

1. Get your senators and representatives to pledge to oppose Trump’s agenda. Reject his nominees, prolong the process of approving them, draw out hearings on legislation. Call your senator and your representative and don’t stop calling.

2. March and demonstrate. The Women’s March on Washington will be the day after the inauguration. There should be “sister” marches around the country. And then monthly marches against hate. Keep the momentum alive and keep the message going.

3. Make your city and state sanctuaries that won’t cooperate with federal immigration authorities in deporting undocumented immigrants, especially people who have been here since they were very young.

4. Boycott all Trump products, real estate, hotels, resorts, everything. And then boycott all stores (like Nordstrom) that carry merchandise from Trump family brands.

5. Write letters to the editor of your newspaper and op-eds, with a steady flow of arguments about the fallacies and dangers of Trump’s policies and initiatives in his first 100 days.

6. Contribute to social media with up-to-date daily bulletins on what Trump is up to and actions in your region in opposition.

7. Contribute to the most effective opposition groups. The American Civil Liberties Union, Common Cause, the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Economic Policy Institute, Inequality Media, MoveOn and others.

8. Make the resistance visible with bumper stickers, lapel pins, wrist bands.

9. Push progressive causes at your state and local level — environmental reform, progressive taxes, a higher minimum wage, ending gerrymandering, stopping mass incarceration. Make your state a model of what the federal government should do.

10. Start a move in your state to abolish the Electoral College by committing your state’s electors to vote for the presidential candidate who wins the popular vote.

11. Reach out to independents and even Trump supporters who agree with this agenda, and get them involved.

12. [Your idea goes here.] Meet with family and friends this weekend, and decide what you’ll contribute.

The First 100 Days Resistance Agenda. An hour a day. Send a powerful message. We aren’t going away.

I'm all for boycotting Trump products and Trump sympathizer products.

But for things like Amazon.com, I know they still carry Ivanka's products, but tbh they're by far the cheapest way for me to get certain things that are essentials. So I think it's okay to buy from them but religiously don't buy Trump or Trump related products? Hmmm

Very interesting and helpful, thank you! I noticed that site included phone banking for the Virginia special elections that were held today. I haven't seen any results, but I'm praying one or more of the seats turns Democrat. Each seat makes a difference.

Edited to add, I just checked the state results. Democrats got one State Senate seat, Republicans got one and Republicans got the House of Delegates seat. Darn. I really hoped we'd pick up more.

The Grab Your Wallet Trump boycott has mentioned that a lot of people have been having success with ordering things from Target. They also have a subscription service just like Amazon. And the people on that page who have tried it said they were happier with Target.

I've been avoiding Amazon, not only because of the Trump boycott, but also because I've been reading a lot of other bad things about Amazon:

http://www.salon.com/2014/02/23/worse_than_wal_mart_amazons_sick_brutality_and_secret_history_of_ruthlessly_intimidating_workers/

if you google "Amazon not treating employees well" article after article comes up:

https://www.google.com/#q=amazon+not+treating+employees+well+

I was really disappointed when I started reading more on this. I loved Amazon. I always had a good experience shopping there and I found a lot of good deals. But I just can't shop there anymore.

Campaign Zero (They were some of the creators of Black Lives Matter) just realized this awesome resource called the Resistance Manual.

It's in a Wiki-Format and explains everything that's going on and what you should do.

Excellent explanation of how the EC skews representation. More support for getting rid of it. Please send to your elected officials and follow up with calls. The EC must go, it is dangerous if a person like Drumpf can ascend to the presidency yet have three million fewer votes. HC had nearly three million more actual votes, but 74 fewer EC votes? This stinks to high heaven. Not a democracy.

I posted these links in the cheeto thread, but I thought it would be good to archive them here, too.

First, a follow-up plan issued by the women's march with 10 actions to take over the next 100 days: https://www.womensmarch.com/100/

Next, a website telling you your nearest swing district. They will email you ways to get involved to try to swing the district left leading up to 2018. https://swingleft.org/

Finally, a resistance manual. A central place for issues we need to stay vigilant about, their current status, and what you can do about it. https://www.resistancemanual.org

I heard about this on Robcast (Rob Bell's podcast).  They are looking for people to run for Congress.  NOT politicians.  Regular people, the idea being to oust the folks who are non-practicing lawyers who have been there for 30 plus years.  To get rid of the professional politicians.

I know this has been posted before, but the ACLU has been instrumental in fighting this Muslim ban. They can use all the help they can get right now because they still have a big fight ahead of them:
