The Keys to Unlocking Your Future

for young ladies* by Sarah, 29, Anna,

18, and Mary, 14

aahhhh, sit at home, do chores, wait for "prince charming" to drop out of the sky and hope Daddy will let you marry.....

Um, yeah. They may want to take Sarah off of this one or start lying about her age. Clearly, she doesn't have the keys to unlock any door to a happy future. Poor thing.

I would love to take Loving Your Husband! Just think ,Teri telling us how when your husband tells you he hates you(and tells his men's group),takes your Pepsi and tells you to pray the depression away you suck it up and still show him love . I would really like to know how she can say it with a straight face.

If they want the family business to continue, they'll need to add different sessions. At this point, they need return business in order to keep the schedule busy. No one's going to invite them back every year to listen to the same message. Given their lifestyle, I can't figure out what else they could add in their session. The Maxwells lead such....anal retentive lives. They fill it with their nursing home church, cleaning, work, more cleaning, more work....how much more can you say about that sort of life?

There's undoubtedly still a demand for how-to-organize-your-homeschool seminars. Every year, new families are beginning homeschooling and it stands to reason that they might be looking for some help. But at the same time, the Maxwells have a lot of competition compared to the 1980s and 1990s when homeschooling was more of a fringe movement. Maybe MOTH boards and similar down-home products don't appeal as much to this new generation of homeschoolers when there are larger companies marketing all sorts of books, software, how-to manuals, visual aids, educational toys, etc.? We're talking about slick, professionally made stuff here, not post-it notes on cardboard. Also, the Maxwell kids are mostly grown, so maybe today's homeschooling parents don't view Steve and Teri as peers who are navigating the same waters? Or perhaps they're just too fundie for the fundies?

It's not that I think 29 is old. It just seems odd that Sarah would do a session on the joys of young womanhood. In fundie circles, she's quite advanced in age for a stay at home daughter. If I were a fundie woman with daughters, I'd think twice about sending them to sit and listen to Sarah. Then again, I'd think twice about everything the Maxwells say so I am obviously biased.

Sarah's upcoming sessions are going to have to cover life without a husband in your 30's. For fundies, she is an oddity and not a role model if you ever want your kid to actually leave home.

Wait, what? I missed this story. Yikes.

Other know this story better than me, but when they went to actual church Steve told his men's group he hated Teri. Nice huh?

Sarah Maxell is probably trying to rival 32-year-old virgin Sarah Malley.

She could do writing workshops or seminars about how to publish and market your writing. But that's probably too career oriented for the fundie audience.

Are they going to continue listing Sarah's age when she's 30? 35? How long can she go on talking about "young womanhood" and "the future" with her teenage sisters?

FTR, I still feel, look, and act pretty young at 34. But I would feel like a fool talking about "young womanhood" alongside a sister half my age.

I love snarking the Maxwells, but this picture f***s me off big time.

How the hell does shyness violate scripture? I've been shy all my life, there are things you can do to make you more confident, but there is nothing wrong with being shy. Even to put a slide up about how to have a conversation is odd.

They list the age of the "children at home" right up until they get married. They listed Christopher's age right up until he married NRAnna.

Hey, johnhugh! Welcome, nice to have you.

In future, just paste the entire link into your message

http://www.titus2dotcom/blog/wp-content ... C_4738.jpg

then go back and delete http://www. to leave

titus2dotcom/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/DSC_4738.jpg

FJians who want to go to the link just copy and paste into their browser bars on their laptops, and those on smart phones just click on the truncated link and go to the page.

Lots lots lots easier on everyone than doing the DOT thing. :)

johnhugh, what about the "living together in unity" photos tees you off? Just curious.

anybody with photoshop skillz, that second photo screams for a Teri makeover. Even though she has a sort of SJP face, I keep thinking a little work on those caterpillars and a haircut would result in not-a-bad-looking woman, as opposed to the washed-out cardboard cutout that she appears to be.

I'm thinking a pageboy bob ending just below the chin line. I'm not even asking for make-up! Not even a little gloss. But that HAIR! It just drags her down.

PS: I find the Maxwells dreary. I wish to goodness whatever Serven is on blog duty would step up! That family at least has some gingers in it and they don't believe English Country Dancing is gonna send you to hell!!!!

Surely they think shyness violates Scripture because you're supposed to proactively go out and spread the gospel?

Think about it - Steve is outgoing enough to open a booth at the Leavenworth County Fair to harangue people with the Ray Comfort tract and the Good Person Test, he's outgoing enough to confront random waitresses at the Olive Garden over "where will you go when you die," he's outgoing enough to give a death sermon at a wedding. He is confrontational. The entire Maxwell dog and pony show is confrontational, telling people they have to isolate their kids, smash the TV and quit Little League lest they lose their children's hearts to hell.

Steve thinks these activities are necessary, and you can't really do them so well if you're shy. It's not so different than any other kind of cold-calling or political solicitation, some people are just NOT cut out for that sort of thing, and I can see how that would just befuddle and offend Steve. Which means of course it's not Biblical, because Steve decides what that is, in their little parallel universe.

Excellent find johnhugh. Not surprising from the Maxwells but completely depressing: Your shyness violates scripture! :naughty:

So where on earth does it say "shyness is a sin" in the bible? I've never heard of this. Guess Stevie must be writing his own bible.... :liar:

It is probably accidental, but the photo looks horribly as though history is repeating itself in the 2nd generation of the family. Cocksure and gregarious young Mr Maxwell is up front, arms outstretched, preaching about the sinful nature of shyness, while meek and naturally timid-looking young Anna is uncomfortably clutching at the hem of her cardigan in the background, pondering on her sin.

OK, here goes. When I was a fundy, I was taught that shyness is a form of self-centredness. That makes it a sin as our lives are meant to be christ-centred. J-O-Y means you can't be shy.
