Kate Is Still a Horrible Mother

Robert has finally re-released his book about Kate Gosselin. In it he details her abuse of the kids/pets etc... All of the legal work for publication was done by Martin Garbus.

I'll warn you that it may be a very triggering read.

so all the bitching isn't an act to seem interesting?

i feel very sorry for her kids.

interesting to find out if she was always that way, or became that way from the pressure of 8 babies at once.

I had read it the first time it was out but it was a friend's copy. It is free for amazon prime members to read this time around. I decided to purchase to have a copy forever and to support Robert since he has had so many legal bills and such stress from Kate over the years.

I also warn it is a very difficult read but well worth it not only to expose Kate but to learn about reality and TLC.

From the book Kate had mental illness before the multiple births. Her family members confirmed she was dx bipolar before being married to Jon. She had a weird obsession with the McCaughley (sp?) 7 but went on to have an abortion before she met Jon. There are just odd stories like this and then stories of her pushing her son's face is dog feces or hitting the kids. Again a hard read because of those 8 kids now living in isolation behind a gate in PA.

I'm about 8% of the way through the book now and it's definitely been edited from the first version, which is truly a blessing! It's a much easier read this time and I haven't noticed any duplication so far like there was the first time around.

I haven't gotten to any of the really bad stuff yet, so it's going pretty fast right now.

It's also organized in a much saner timeline rather than kind of skipping all over the place.

Some of it, you can tell is still from the old book. The preface seems pretty identical, but I haven't looked at the old book to see if they are, in fact, identical or not.

He doesn't have full contracts published anymore (that was one of the reasons the first book was pulled), but he does have good bullet point summaries of the contracts he's talked about so far, which was better than slogging through the contracts anyway, IMO.

Right now he's talking about quotes referring to God that Kate has made, which I am guessing are from her journals, but rather than being exact quote like the old book, they are his paraphrasing of what she would have said.

For example: Kate prays to God for nice weather on a specific day so it's convenient for her. She asks for an exact temperature of 75 degrees.

So far, all in all, a much better job, IMO.

This woman is insane. Her evil deeds make me sick to my stomach. It just goes to show everyone if you have money you can buy off anyone to cover your ass. Robert slipped through her fingers and she can't control him but its not over til the fat lady sings. I hope he turns around and sues her for mental anguish.

She's not going to be able to get the book pulled this time. He's not using direct quotes from her journal so far, he's just paraphrasing, so her last minute action of copyrighting it did nothing other than prove it was her words.

I'm mostly interested in seeing if there is any new information in this book because Robert said ages ago that if he was sued he was going to revel information he didn't put in the first book.

It's definitely a MUCH cleaner read this time. I'm not up to the bad stuff yet or to anything new, but it's still interesting and it's so much easier to follow, even though I've technically read it before it doesn't feel like it's repetitive (if that makes sense)

He mentions in kind of an aside way that after reading her emails and journals it's clear that she is very jealous of the Duggars. That made me chuckle for some reason.

Is there a reason the re-release of the book is getting no promotion or media attention? Is Kate some how in control of the media outlets still? We see plenty of stories about bigger stars lives falling apart and secrets and they always get press. I know whenever the book has been brought up since it was originally pulled on various forums so many people have commented they want to read it but how would they know it came out again?

This was my first kindle book, is being ranked #355 for kindle books good? If it jumps into the top 100 will more people notice?

I think Kate was very jealous of any TLC family show. I know she was livid about the Hayes family, in fact they got offered the show first, but declined until their kids were older, going to school.

Kate made a snide comment about the Duggars in the submarine tour episode. She didn't say their name, just "that other family with all the kids" and a mean laugh.

It's terrible that she ran Jon off. He made mistakes but he was driven to it imo. I always felt so sorry for him being so verbally and physically abused (all those slaps in the talking heads). She really messed up, he was such a good "wife" and really did care for the kids when they were small. I think their lives could have been wonderful if she had just gotten a clue and treated him with respect. :|

I have a different kindle book rented right now for my monthly rental but I haven't even started it. I think I need to exchange it for this while it's free to Prime members!

Holy crap I need to read this.

I think Kate Gosselin is the worst of the reality TV moms. Even Michelle can at least come across as nice, although robotic. Kate doesn't even try.

How could TLC let someone as abusive as Kate continue to be put on our screens. TLC may be the freak show channel, but surely the people who decide what to go on have enough of a heart to not let a child abuser profit from being on TV.

Totally agree with you, Kate is definitely worse than Michelle. As far as TLC, I think they just don't care. Her abuse may be more subtle when cameras are rolling, or the bigwigs just don't care and know that it probably attracts viewers to the trainwreck that is Kate. TV execs are in it to make money for themselves and their networks.

Admittedly it has been a while since watching her show. I watched the birthday special las week and she seemed as normal as you could be raising 8 kids by yourself. Yes she was stern but you kind of have to be when you have 8 kids. I'm not saying she's an angel because God only knows what happens when those cameras go off. I want to check out the book. She could very well be abusive to her kids. I remember watching the series and seeing her marriage fall apart on camera.

Amazon lets you read quite a lot of the book in the "Look Inside" feature.

Totally disillusioned now. :| Those poor kids.

TL:DR summary -- she saw the McCaughey septuplets saga 17 years ago and decided that was her ticket to fame. She educated herself, faked fertility problems, and made it happen.

Except she is NOT raising 8 kids by herself. Their father is active in their lives and has them approximately 50% of the time and when she has them she also has "helpers" as she calls them, so she is rarely alone with her kids (and it's been that way since the birth of the sextuplets).

She'd have you think that Jon had died and she does everything on her own, but that is far from reality.

I don't care how many kids you have, you don't need to run your house like boot camp to have well behaved children and certainly not when they are babies. No children should have to "sound off" the order they are required to eat their packed school lunch in. That is a level of control that is well beyond anything that could be considered normal.

How the hell are the kids required to eat their packed lunch in a specific order?

I read the entire preview on Amazon, and wow. I want to read the whole thing, but I feel weird using my dad's Prime account to borrow it.

The TLC contracts are pretty iron clad about crew talking to anyone about what they saw. Kate asked for even stricter contracts them normal. She also required every maid, nanny and cook to sign the same agreements.

Mr. Jim that is the popular crew member on the Duggars that everyone seems to love, used to be on the Gosselin's crew. He was there during many of these horrible abusive times yet we have to assume good old Mr Jim turned a blind eye. There are also hours of unedited footage that was all watched by off site editors in NC(including a editor arrested for child porn) and none of the editors said a word as well.

TLC loved Kate, it was her show that boosted them into a top 10 cable network. They had made her a brand and had people with her at all times telling her what to say. There were a few times stories started to leak out or media was putting together the pieces that all was not right but TLC's PR firm was on top of it asap. TLC first contract which Jon and Kate naïvely signed sold all the kids rights away to TLC and then Kate only fought for her own rights in future contracts and TLC just wanted Kate to show a certain imagine and have full rights to the kids. TLC hired Kate a huge legal team to get rid of Jon and his rights so they could film the divorce and have Kate have her own show. Kate also seemed like she loved reading boards about her, good or bad, and thought bad press is press and she would take any press. From the time she left home she wanted fame/money and got it.

I just can't believe how many people turned a blind eye to abuse. I know they were bound by an iron clad contract, but shouldn't the safety and well-being of children come first? Wouldn't a judge or jury with any morals decide that a child's life is more important than breaking a contact? Ugh.

I can't imagine how much worse that made it for the children. Abuse is reprehensible and traumatizing, and it must be so much more damaging to know others have witnessed your abuse, that you have no privacy and everything you do is watched - yet no one steps forward. By not stepping forward, to a child it could seem like they are approving of the behavior or just don't care.

Cursing the stupid book I already got from the Kindle lending library earlier this month!!! I have to wait til July 1st to read this one.

She is so gross. I have multiples (just twins) and I understand that they are stressful. I am not super patient and get really overwhelmed by my kids sometimes. I say this because I understand the madness of two babies or two misbehaving toddlers, but the things Kate does are SO clearly abusive and it seems clear she would do them even if she had a single child. I hope no one puts any of this on the stress of multiples. It's all HER.

Haha, I just got to the part about PCOS and trying to have children. Funny that the author says she never had any of the signs. Neither did I. Skinny, good skin, perfect periods (before I was on the pill, just not after it). And he says that 10 out of 10 moms he talked to said they never worried about getting pregnant before they developed PCOS... I worried about that constantly bc I'm a worrier and having kids was something I'd always wanted (so I worried it wouldn't happen). Not that any of that says anything about Kate, but I thought it was odd that he used those as reasons Kate was faking PCOS as both applied to me and I know I'm not faking!

I have to wait also to rent it! Darn! Might as well finish the one I have while I wait, I guess...

About that 10 out of 10 moms thing, I have wondered about it since I was like 18. I'm not a worrier, but I've always dreaded finding out I have a problem. Recently found out about some PCOS and I guess I did have some of the symptoms. Point is: I would never tell anyone in person that I worry about this other than my husband. It's personal, and I'd probably put on a brave face: "no, I've never worried about that!" so I question the massive survey of 10 moms.

Not to derail the thread but I saw a blog once where a mom told her kids what order to eat their lunches in. She wrote a number on the baggie/wrapper or used a sticky note to attach a number to a piece of fruit. So for example, the sandwich would be #1 and the carrot sticks #2, apple #3, crackers, #4 and dessert #5. I think it's to keep kids from eating the crap first and filling up on junk.

My husband started to read the book. He stopped on the page where kate is requesting a stupid picky stuff from TLC,

I only want a Crew with no opinions in my home.

Who has no opinions? I can see Kate thinking she was a celebrity and wanted Kobe beef, or a suite in a hotel, but how does TLC find and hire an entire crew with no opinions? and the crew also had to not touch anything, put things in certain places, it was like she treated the crew (who she always refers to as family) like a 5 year old.

She also only wanted crew who were informed and understood she is a frazzled mom of 8 and not to judge her actions.

How did TLC find this crew? and Mr Jim was part of this crew.
