I can see acknowledging that they notice a difference -- like, "Hey, your hair looks nice! Did you get highlights?" Or "Wow, I like the new look!" referring to a style change in clothes. But TJFW specifically said the people were asking *why* the woman had changed her style, which just strikes me as strange. idk.

Maybe I'm the weird one on this, but I'd probably feel quite uncomfortable if someone asked me *why* I'd changed my clothing style. and it's definitely not something I'd ask someone else. I'll stand down on this one and acknowledge my ignorance on etiquette if this is really a normal, everyday thing.

Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to imply it's a normal, everyday thing. I tend to find comments about personal appearance uncomfortable at best, even when it's a "so cute!" kind of comment (although I will render such a comment when asked my opinion, like by one of the teens asking how an outfit looks). I can't see myself going up to someone and commenting that I noticed they're now wearing skirts all the time, or that they're not wearing skirts all the time anymore, when they used to.

But then, I might not even notice a difference. I'm not very visual.

ETA: And yes, I'd feel uncomfortable, too, if anyone had the nerve to just ask me why I was dressing differently. I guess I just wanted to put in a plug for the couple people in my own life who noticed a difference and cared enough to say something in the course of a long conversation. Maybe they'd noticed how legalistic we were but were too polite to say so, until we left the lifestyle.

So why does she have a blog? To have a say?

She said in that Internet radio interview last year that years ago she considered writing a book and that Ken encouraged her to start a blog. She must have gotten inspired again to do a book. She has said that the blog is a way she "ministers' to women. I think she is banking on the book deal bringing more traffic to her blog which might happen for awhile. In the past Lori has managed to piss some of her readers due to her anti-working woman stance and I remember the infamous Trayvon Martin post pissed off several readers who said they were done with her.

I doubt it because I imagine the book will be all of her blog posts strung together somehow. The title will be some bastardization of "Created to be his Helpmeet".

Good title: How to be submissive: revelations from a bitchy self-proclaimed godly mentor to younger women while my oversexed husband gives me bad sex

So is she going to donate any of her profits from the book sales? Doubt it.

Lori's takeaways from watching Pioneer Quest:

Quote

Positives of living back then ~

No possible way for pornography addictions!

First on the list of positives - NO PORN! What the hell is going on in her household that the lack of porn is the bestest thing about living in the 1870s?!? I've watched Pioneer Quest and not once did I think, "Gosh, it sure was nice they didn't have porn."

Quote

Negatives about living back then ~

Medical care. We have great medical care today. Many of us would be dead today without it. Even during the filming of this show, the Christian man needed medical intervention three times. The true Pioneers may have died if they didn't know that their well was full of e-coli. {Maybe there wouldn't have been e-coli in the water back then. I don't know.}

She's worried about e-coli but not cholera? Does she know polio is a waterborne illness, too? How about botulism from home canned foods? It isn't just Medical Care, antibiotics are great but it's sanitation and water-treatment that have made water safe. Thank an engineer.

Of course there was porn in the 1800s.  The Victorians perfected porn.

We have Ecoli in our water nowadays and even back then it wouldn't be the Ecoli that'd kill, it'd be the cholera and typhoid and all those vaccine preventable illnesses they had then (measles, polio, diphtheria, tetanus, etc).

I'm pretty sure e-coli was invented in the sixties by the feminists.  :pb_lol:

Quick question---how do we know  that she has a publisher for her book? Was it mentioned in her private chat room?

Wait, now she's GLAD for modern medicine?! Does this bitch even listen to herself??

I mean, it's almost like we should be glad that people aren't dropping like flies from measles and scarlet fever because, you know, VACCINES. And the evil PHARMACEUTICALS.

When she mentioned well water, I wondered briefly if she'd been reading the Naugler stuff on FJ. :)

I have wondered if there would scrub of the blog before the book release. A part me of thinks there might be a scrub if the publisher and editors are scared about Lori scaring off potential buyers for the book. At the same time, the blog might not be scrubbed if the editors and publisher have no issue with some of Lori's very hateful views and don't care if people are turned off by Lori.

Like littlemommy, I also imagine the book will be her blog posts strung together. I'm imagining there will be chapters/sections in the book for Lori to rant against working women using some of the stories from her blog. Then there will be chapters/sections against the ebil public schools which include blog anecdotes about Lori's teaching days and the stories posted on the blog about the early years of the Loriken marriage and maybe the sabotaged birth control story will be in the book.

Today's post starts with this:

Quote

When you are fighting with your husband or children and you sense your family falling apart, who is the real enemy behind it all? Satan.

Isn't that from the Church Lady skits from Saturday Night Live??

How does the book publishing world work?  Do you have to write an edit an entire book before finding a publisher?

With Christian non-fiction, you need to write a book proposal. This includes a detailed outline, information about the writer's existing readership, justification fo the book, and two or three sample chapters. Typically you then find an agent and the agent shops it out. So you don't have to have the whole book written, but you do need to have it planned out and partly written.

Does Lori say she has a traditional publishing contract with someone? If you're willing to pay the money, you can self-publish. There is still some oversight to make sure it follows certain editorial standards, but you can end up with both print copies and ebooks. You work with an editorial consultant, so if Lori has said "my editor," that could be all it is.

I wish I could say I know this because I've had a book published. Sadly, it's because I've been rejected. :)

I keep seeing ads on TV for a Christian publishing company. The ad talks about "if you have a book ready to publish" then they will help with the marketing and getting it in stores. I immediately thought of Lori. It sounded like a sketchy "you pay us and we'll publish your book" scam appealing to the religious idiots that think they really contribute to society. News flash - they don't....

Quick someone...give her some ideas!  If Target keeps selling Pride shirts she's going to have to hop in her used Mercedes and flee her home (with a view of the ocean) in search of another land.

It wouldn't surprise me either. I've seen many claims about chiros that go WAAAYYY beyond the scope of what they should be practicing. It seems that Erika uses one for her kids' routine medical care, which is just bizarre. I know someone who works as a doula, and recently turned away a client who was exclusively using a chiro for prenatal care :pb_confused:

This times 1000.  I wouldn't let a chiropractor mess around with my neck, either.

Like any profits from her book sales will be enough to cover publishing that drivel.

I've seen those TV ads recently and sometime back on my FB feed there was an sponsored ad from Christian publishing company seeking manuscripts.

Was it a vanity press, by chance? They'll publish your book... for a price.

I can't see her making much from book sales. I have to wonder if she has received any kind of advance on her book.

I don't remember the name. I'll keep my eyes out for that name if those ads pop up on TV or FB again.
