Daniel Staddon and Kathryn Neely: the most convoluted courtship story ever

2 questions . Why are their websites always name  something like X loves Y  ?

All of the fundies in this circle are X loves Y because all of their websites were set up (or at least helped by) Robert Staddon.  He started it with his own site - Robert Loves Kendalyn, then there was David Loves Priscilla, and so on, to Daniel Loves Kathryn.  Original these people are not.

And speaking of Robert and Kendalyn - they're on their fourth already?  Wow, they sure are working on that quiver.

And all of the Staddon guys have "five finger foreheads" (I have a high forehead myself, so I empathize), and possibly receding hairlines at a young age, along with deep-set eyes.  It will be interesting to see what the Neely/Staddon kids look like - if any of them will be a redhead.

As for the bridesmaid dresses, eh, I've seen worse.  At least they don't look too altered.  Although I could do without the bow on Kathryn's dress (and I say this as someone whose wedding dress had a butt bow - bows should have been left in the '90s).

So, any guesses on when the announcement about the first little Steely will be?

Her sister was pregnant w/in a week or 2 of saying her vows, for what it's worth.  I'm guessing there'll be an announcement between Thanksgiving and Christmas w the Steely due around Easter.

yeah, I'm not fond of specific* instructions on attire either.  far more often than not, they want you to wear something you don't have, and then it can end up looking like everyone is in a uniform.  not my cup of tea.

around here, people have "white parties," where everyone wears all or mostly white.  my neighbor went to one last year; it was held at a casino, and other patrons kept asking her and her date if they had just gotten married.

*excluding level of formality, so people know not to wear gowns to a picnic or t-shirts to a formal venue.

A girl I know decided to have a Renaissance/fantasy-themed wedding and asked guests to dress up in costumes...which for her guests meant either shelling out some major bucks for something that looks halfway nice, or showing up in essentially a Party City Halloween costume.

Oh, and she put her bridesmaids and groomsmen in velvet doublets and gowns. In early October. In Atlanta. Outside. No AC.

I'm glad she's happy and her marriage is great, but everyone involved in the wedding kind of hated her guts for a while because of her choices.

Red looks nice on the bridesmaids. At least it's not beige, or "hot pink & Malibu blue". I really like Ma Staddon's clothes, too. Take note, Jichelle, how to dress appropriately for your child's wedding!

The flowers are beautiful. Esther looks nice, too. Weird that no one has courted her yet, especially as she works at the HQ (or so I think). Interesting to see Christiana Kendall among the bridesmaids. Are the Kendalls ATI, too? Had no idea.

Those kissing photos... yuck yuck yuck. Looks like Danny boy is trying to suck Sarah-Kathryn's brains out via her mouth.

Those groomsmen's suit really are ill-fitting. But the worst I've seen so far was Robert's suit in his own wedding. That's more like a bathrobe:

I thought she wore a really nice dress as well. But I think Fundie MOBs/MOGs really have no excuse, since the vast majority of MOB/MOG dresses fit their modesty standards so they shouldn't need to mess with tacking on mismatching boleros and modesty panels.

And Robert's tuxedo pants are a crime. How do no one notice that and suggest a smaller size?

Those suits hurt my soul. If the Lord can send neonatologists to save your eleventieth baby you had against all medical advice/common sense, surely the Lord can send you tailors to make or alter suits that don't make you and your groomsmen look like a bunch of middle schoolers wearing their dads' suits for an after-school amateur production of Guys and Dolls.

Sorry that I quote myself, but I had to google "Malibu blue" to see if it was the colour I was after. That lead me to site full of delicious looking Malibu recipes, including a "Mali-Blue". Since I am a sinful heathen I had to go and buy bottles of Malibu, Curacao, and lemonade, and now I'm enjoying a refreshing beautiful Malibu blue -colored cocktail.  Cheers, fundies! :dramallama-nanner:

I was in a wedding once where I had to wear a beige bridesmaid dress. It had a very subdued floral print on beige with a chiffony beige overlay on the whole thing. It was a straight column dress with a t-shirt neckline and sleeves. We had to get beige shoes. We did have enormous multi-colored bouquets. HUGE bouquets.

Another friend who was not in the wedding party told me at the reception that she figured out in the middle of the ceremony what the bride was going for with the dresses: "you were the plant stands for the flowers!".

Not coincidentally, this was the only fundie-lite wedding I was ever in. Hmmm....

I went to a wedding this afternoon that was as much of a contradiction as fundie courtship weddings as could be possible. The couple, both 25, met in college. Lived together. Bought a house. Obtained jobs, cars, savings, responsibility, education, experience. Got married today, in a park by a lake, by a judge, casual and celebratory. They know each other, have experiences with life and the world and each other. Share commitment towards their goals.

Nothing whatsoever that even comes close to courtship bullshit.

And, it was beautiful. Inspiring.

Everything a fundie wedding never has been or ever will be.

I thought that too about the suits, they look terrible in the photos, it makes their legs look abnormally short, and everyone looks dumpy. They are all thin men, they shouldn't have been hard to fit off the rack.

Notice that I'm being very, very, quiet here.  I'm desperately hoping that someone else will volunteer to do the genealogical family tree - or wreath!  My beady little eyes fixed on @CatNap immediately.

My Venn diagram was more about religious beliefs - trying to sort out those pesky doctrinal differences that render courtship and marriage unlikely.  Those questionnaires comprising 85+ questions are mostly to weed out doctrinal differences, after all.

It is very possible that the families will get less picky about doctrine over time if they start worrying about inbreeding.  However, these things are Very Important and I tend to think it is an indicator of Duggar desperation that Jim Bob is now accepting Calvinists into the family.  I think the Duggar name is mud among Gothardites these days.  We will see.

I'm definitely willing to try   thought most of my knowledge is about the Duggars and Bateses, and some about the IBLP royalty. Nothing about the S'mortons & comp.

Mr. Nap is actually a genealogist but I predict some major eye-rolling if I ask him to take part in this challenge.

Seriously, guys? You have to ask? It is obvious they do not want to defraud any females or temptation prone males , if any in attendance, as the sight of strong legs in a chic suit might prove too much for their delicate sensibilities.

Yay!  Fantastic, both of you.  Volunteers are always needed and I'd forgotten about the work already done on fruits of the womb.  To volunteer officially so the Admins know you are suckers  willing you need to post in this thread too:

This is more monkey see, monkey do, fundie style. At least one wedding each in the Serven & McDonald families featured a similar photo as have the S'Morton-Sanders.

Here's an example from the wedding of Sarah Serven & Cody Winton:

Maybe his hands are hiding an old man erection. I bet that's why the groom wears an enormous tux! To hide the inevitable and very public first kiss boner.

Yes.  And this is one of those times when I gently wonder why Americans need to spell out the joke I already made.  :my_biggrin:

The enormous over-sized cutaways tailcoats (not tuxes) are seriously weird.  Are they emulating Fred Astaire (his tails fit) or attempting Morning Dress (wrong color) or attempting White Tie Evening Dress (wrong time of day because they all get married in daylight hours).

Bless their little hearts.  I think Fundies should stick to safe well fitting business suits.

Or kilts.  Damn, I just love a man with nice legs in a kilt.  I also love mocking a man in a kilt if they wear it as fancy dress and spew some fake religious rigmarole on top.  R.C. Sproul, Jr.  I am looking at you.  Bite me!

Yes, I am really mean - but well fitted business suits for the win.  Fundies, please take note.

@Palimpsest, did you see the photos of the oldest Boyer sister and her (ex-)beau, with him in a kilt and her lovingly tying the pretty little bow on his beret?

Anyway, those mass-kissing photos are vomitrocious. I still think the Duggar one is the worst, because the sight of Fmuggar (fucking Smuggar) in an amorous mood is so anti-sexy, it makes me experience menopause.

My favourite wedding had several men dressed the same as the groom.  Well, marginally, in that they were dressed as various interpretations of The Fourth Doctor.  Several other incarnations of The Doctor were present too.  And themed snacks.  It was great! (And I don't even watch the show.)

Just viewed the photos and while the bride was beautiful and the groom happy on their wedding day, I can't help but think that the red bow ties make the groomsmen look like an army of Pee-wee Hermans....

Thank you!  Did I mention my brain had turned to mush.  The McDonald's questionnaire is a classic!  Do you have any personal habits that may annoy others?

I'm still convinced the Seppis had one too.  Darned if I can find it today.  For those who have not yet encountered the Seppis here is the link:  http://melodys-notes.blogspot.com/

They are some of the nuttiest nuts we have ever snarked on.

I recall Jill Duggar saying she had a 12 page questionnaire that Derick was subjected to. So, the crazy is pretty much everywhere.

eta: It's a crime if they actually RENTED these suits. Don't these IBLP types have several in their closets? Guys like R. Staddon and TFDW have jobs in which they are required to wear suits to work. Doesn't Daniel also work at HQ? Again, no excuse, guys. Well, except for the boner thing...

And now all I can think about is the episode where Pee-Wee marries a bowl of fruit salad. Considering the personalities and education levels fundie girls are allowed to have, that's not dissimilar from what just transpired...

Nope.  Pleated chinos/dockers (or whatever you call them) and a tucked in polo is appropriate attire for nearly every occasion, even running a half marathon according to the Pecan Thief.

My parents only ever went to church for weddings, christening  etc. Not very religious at aIl. It would never have crossed their minds to stage a kiss for our weddings. NEVER.

Modesty is something people just understand, they can conduct themselves modestly naturally.

Fundies are so far removed from the real world that they aren't educated to understand the norms of the culture/ society they are born into.

The Duggar trip to Edinburgh is right up there as an example. Watching them made me cringe.

J-B /Meeechelle were totally lost. Two grown toddlers.

The Duggerlings really have no chance to fit in with the real world. It's a shame.
