I just got back from Aldi. Bought

I don't shop there because of the Duggars though. But it is a store that I go to regularly. They sell fresh fruits and veggies, no excuses for the Duggars to never buy or eat them.

Aldi is awesome.  Their produce is amazing and so cheap.  I don't buy canned items at all.  The only things I buy at Aldi are either fresh or frozen.

Yep, I loaded up on produce there today. And bought a rug!

I don't understand fundies crap food. My grandma was raised poor (living a civil war!) and she learn to cook very cheap food like lentils and soups and stew, with some vegetables and little pieces of meat. Of course she gardened. That food was healthy. In my family we still cook that recipes, among others.

It's like Michelle, Kelly...had never eat nice homemade food, not even in their childhood. If you know nice food, you just can't eat canned chicken, because you puke.

This! I grew up eating plenty of homemade meals, and these days, most of my meals are stuff I cook at home (chickpea curry, roasted chicken with veggies, stir fries, chili). I go out to a restaurant for a meal once a week, either as a treat or to get inspiration for the meals I'm going to make that week or the next. The only canned stuff I buy are beans because I can't be bothered to do all the prep for dried beans, and sometimes tomatoes if they're out of season and the fresh ones are all crappy and expensive.

Do you have an accordion? It would help if this accordion was given to you. If you bought it it doesn't count.

Hey, that's my joke!  :pb_razz:

Who the flippin flamingo writes that on a blog?!

You can't make this shit up... its hilarious and disturbing in equal measure!

Call me an snobby northeastern liberal, but the only meat in a can I would go near is marketed towards feeding your feline headship, not yourself.  I'd sooner go vegetarian than eat meat out of a can.

I'd pay good money to see a fundie blog share a recipe that uses Fancy Feast.

Don't be rude about Fancy Feast! My friend is a "Feline Food Scientist" (cat equivalent of a specialist nutritionist) and I'm certain that Fancy Feast has a much higher nutritional value than chicken in a can.

I grew up in a part of the country where pulled pork sandwich, sloppy joes, and shredded chicken sandwiches were very common at potlucks, graduation parties, community gatherings, and any other time you were feeding lots of people. Shredded chicken sandwiches seem to be very regional. I decided to make some for my friends in another part of the country, so I consulted the internet for a recipe, wanting one that didn't use fillers like stuffing mix or crackers. I found one that called for one whole chicken in a can. Since my "rule" is that I make a recipe exactly as written the first time then tweak it if it's worth making again, I bought the whole chicken in a can. It was the nastiest, grossest thing I've seen come out of a can. Next time, I'm breaking down and cooking the whole chicken. After hearing that the Bates recipe involves chicken in a can, I can't imagine buying more than one in a lifetime!

Wait, what? An actual whole chicken comes in a can?? I'm picturing guiding the carcass out of the can, like a forceps-assisted birth...

No, no, no, no, nope! Do not go there! That image of a whole chicken sliding out of a can in all its slimy, gelatinous, sickly-pale and slightly grey glory has haunted the nightmares of many an FJer. Trust me, it is not something you want to see if you plan on eating chicken any time this month. :pb_lol:

That picture is going to be summoned if it keeps being brought up. Don't summon the canned chicken! :laughing-jumpingpurple:

I wish I were joking. I make my posts from my phone, which means that links and pictures are a pain to include, but you can Google whole canned chicken. The first Sweet Sue brand picture will haunt your nightmares, and it doesn't fully convey the sliminess or the smell.

So inquiring minds want to know?  How bad is the smell compared to canned cat food?

... I really need to avoid this thread... The canned conversation has my tummy doing somersaults. I've already been spit up on by my nephew twice today - I'd prefer not to throw up on him in return. :pb_lol:

I think it's worse  (and I handle canned cat food every day).

The Aldi's around here definitely don't sell that stuff!  Your Aldi's sounds like Whole Foods, our Aldi's, at least in KY are discount stores where you don't really want to buy the meat.

I live in a pretty affluent county, and our Aldi has some pretty awesome Whole Foods level stuff.  It just doesn't have awesome stuff consistently.  The offerings of awesomeness are always changing.  The canned goods and dry goods stay consistent.  The specialty items do not.

Totally! They accidently on purpose devoted an entire room in their house to the Confederacy! It must be true because it took Kelly two years to come up with that excuse!

I have a vivid memory that on one of the first Bates family appearances on 19 Kids, they showed a photo of the family with Michael wearing a confederate flag vest.  I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

I remember that vest too, but it seems to not be available anywhere online.

Canned beans over bread? Why not rice? Beans are inexpensive and highly nutritious, but over bread? That's just nasty. Mashed potatoes and bologna? Terrible.

Day old bread is super cheap at bread outlets? Gross, but easy to divide evenly.
