Counting On - Part 8: You've Seen Half this Show Before

Part of me wants the "life-changing" news to be that someone is courting, and that the happy couple has decided that their courtship rules won't be "no kissing," "no hugging," "no touching," or "no conversations," like their siblings, but something like "no sex tapes," or "no anal."

:brainbleach:

The other 99.999999999% of me doesn't give a flying fig.

It bugged me that half the show was pre-recorded.

They have nothing more to say/show that they haven't already said/shown to the eleventy.

I had a friend years ago that had courted her husband. I really didn't know that much about the process at the time or her faith. One night we were working late and talking about our weddings and I admitted that my husband and I didn't have sex on our wedding night. Before I could explain that it was because we got married at 4pm and our reception with many out of state guests went till 2am and we fell asleep as soon as we got to the airport hotel (we had an early morning flight) , she told me her story. She and her husband waited over 4 months to have sex after getting married. She just felt better starting like most people do and said she had never told anyone in her family or church friends that  she had waited so long after marriage. She trusted me since I was an outsider.  They had real dates, had make out sessions watching movies and snuggled. She just could not go from zero to 100 in one day. I wonder how many other fundie couples do this?

That seems almost normal. Poor thing. Did they have a good marriage?

I'll vote straight GOP this cycle if a Duggar says that on TV.

Here are the life-changing events I would be thrilled to see:

Anna announcing that she is moving into her own place and starting a job.  Josh will not be welcome into her new home.

Jana announcing that she has met a gentleman farmer and they are to be wed in the summer.  His farm is in Iowa.

Derek and Jill decide to come home because Derek has decided that being a missionary is putting too much of a strain on his health.  Instead of returning to Arkansas, though, he has taken a new position as accountant in a big firm in California.

Jessa and Ben announce that they are having difficulties with their marriage so they have decided to go to marriage counseling after they have moved to Illinois so that Ben can attend college in person.

Here are the life-changing events I would not find thrilling but they would be OK:

J.D. has decided to make it official and move into the house he owns.  His sisters will make sure to drop in occasionally to do some cleaning for him.

Jinger has met someone (very much like Bin) and is now in the courtship phase.  They are planning a wedding for next fall and Sierra is over the moon with excitement!

One of the boys decided to take a position as a trainee in electrical work or car mechanics-- something that JB can use anyway.

Here are the life-changing events I would find horrifying:

Jill is pregnant.

Michelle is pregnant.

Jessa and Bin are really adopting and have already met the teenage mom-to-be.

Jill, Michelle, Jessa and Anna are all pregnant at the same time.

Yes. They are still married and it has been 20 years this fall. They made it through serious illness and infertility. It took 15 years to have 2 kids with IVF.  They also made an incredibly smart real estate move buying a fixer upper multi family and now have a huge very desirable single family home paid off.  I think because they both had some real life experience before becoming seriously fundie it helped. The husband was born Catholic in NYC and my friend had moved here from another country and had seen horrible war crimes including seeing her biological father murdered. They are an interesting mix of extremes. I watched the husband give up an incredible upper level management job to become a minster. The wife took an evening Bible study about being more submissive to her husband(I was so ready to blow my top over this one). Then she is always really helping everyone she can and not only within her church. I remember we were at a Mormon thrift store and a lady was talking about her son being left in a wheelchair after and accident and how hard it was. My friend went home and got money out of her own savings and got volunteers to make the house handicap accessible. The LDS lady and her family were in shock that this other group came in and did this for her. In no way did my friend expect to convert anyone. In 20 years she has never asked me to come to her church. I appreciate that we can be friends and have different viewpoints.

I would actually throw up if Anna is pregnant again

as for Jill is that because of the zika virus or another reason ?

seriously

My guesses for "life changing" events in no particular order:

1. Smuggar comes home

2. Jinger is courting some spineless excuse of a man

3. The Dullards are coming home

4. Somebody is preggos

5. They solidify their white-savior status by bringing home a heathen brown baby :sad-roulette:

It can't be a major announcement or the magazines would know first.  I bet its just Jill is coming home.

The only thing spectacular that has ever happened in that family was the number of babies they produced. And even that was just an accumulation of 19 quite normal happenings. Boys finding girls? Young couples having babies? People moving abroad? Every gentile can pull that off.

So no, the only truly life changing thing that could happen is Derrick receiving a free sample from Gilette and using it. Or Jill could do it 'Delilah' style, when he is asleep :pb_mrgreen: That would be very Biblical.

Couldn't help thinking that "Needs a Free Sample from Gillette" might make a nice post count title.

I think they will skirt around this when it happens. No way they would force happiness about a new josh and Anna baby.

I feel like they are REALLY pushing their show recently.

I signed up for the Duggars email newsletter YEARS ago. Barely received anything from them. But in the past few weeks I've gotten an email pretty much weekly reminding me to watch their show and asking for feedback. This week I received one from Jinger instead of "Duggar Family?

Part of me wonders if Jinger is courting because why else would she say that she doesn't have to travel to another country to start a courtship (or whatever she said). How would she know that unless she has a *special friend* already?

A bigger part of me agrees with most of you that the *life changing event* is something ordinary and anticlimactic.. If TLC had something big why TF would they recycle 3 month old footage?

I stopped watching Duggar escapades before Jill's wedding, so all of it was new to me - I'm not impressed. I noticed Ben and Jessa saying there were lots of people they could ask for advice about kissing and I thought to myself "kissing's not a big deal, you don't need lessons." Then I read the comments here, so maybe they were right?

I wish the cameras would focus on the faces of people when they learn the baby is named Spurgeon. The passport photo lady's back was to the camera when she asked what the cute baby's name was.

Finally saw Derick wearing a shirt that wasn't from a Nepalese marathon.

Jessa and Jinger's talking heads have convinced me that the Duggars still see Josh's "mistake" as ancient history and the only thing that bothers the victims is the media bringing it up again. Josh's cheating on Anna, no the other hand, is not a mistake, it's the terrible horrible thing Josh did that forced the whole family to suffer and will forever be referred to the-thing-the-Duggars-had-to-walk-through. And the Duggar kids are not over it, they know they're all supposed to forgive Josh for getting caught cheating but they don't seem eager to. Anna seems to the be only one excited for Josh to get out of exile rehab, maybe those 3 days visiting Josh at his rehab really were the best days of her life.

That's true. And I guess when you are practically begging for sponsors you need to save money where you can.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
