What is going on at the Maxwells?

NR Anna's new baby arrives in July. Elissa might get knocked up again soon. And- God forbid- Melanie could too. I say God forbid because the poor woman has had such a hard time during her pregnancies, and I don't wish that on anyone. I hope, for her sake, that she's done.

They often celebrate events like birthdays early or late. Like the God they worship, the Maxwells move in mysterious ways.

And now have the song "Mysterious Ways" by U2 playing in my head. Never thought that would happen while reading a Maxwell thread.

It is interesting to look around the internet and see homeschoolers that might have been their audience in the past seeing the truth behind the Maxwells.

I know several families that use(d) the chore packs that want nothing to do with the rest of the Maxwell's core sheltering message. They still use the blocks of time but have adapted it to 2016, one thing the Maxwell's missed. There was a lady I carpooled with and she has 10 kids. She used the chore packs and had the schedule on her wall. She still has the wall schedule with the blocks of time for the younger kids or maybe a babysitter or grandparents to figure out who is where but she also uses an app. This mom really appreciates parts of Teri's scheduling but realizes this is 2016 and Teri is stuck 25 years ago. The maxwells missed the boat not updating the chore system to an app. I know at least 5 LDS women who used it so the system had an appeal outside of a specific religious belief.

 This!!!!

From what I, and others here on FJ have also picked up on, is that back during the height of MOTH, the Maxwell's found a niche in the Christian homeschooling community with their scheduling materials because there were no/few alternatives that others found implementable.  However, newer materials have since come along and have overtaken MOTH for a variety of reasons, including failure to stay current and disagreement with the core Maxwell message.

Let's do the time warp again, shall we?

May a thousand curses rain down upon your head for giving me an ear worm.

May a thousand blessings rain down upon your head because I'm about to make dinner while dancing the Time Warp as well as I can at my age.

"It's just a jump to the left.

And then a step to the right.

With your hand on your hips.

You bring your knees in tight.
But it's the pelvic thrust
They really drive you insane.
Let's do the Time Warp again.
Let's do the Time Warp again!"

Speaking of the Maxwell's failure to stay current, I wonder if they paid any attention that 1) other homeschooling materials were becoming available and 2) that people didn't agree with their extreme sheltering message.  Did they keep any track of what their so-called "competition" was doing?   Did they ever note that people disagreed because surely there had to be attendees who questioned the whole extreme sheltering.  Or was Steveovah so much in his own head he ignored or dismissed it all?

You're very welcome!  :evil-laugh:

Please tell Mr. P I said Hi!

You're dancing?!  Could that mean you're having F.U.N.?!   Do you know where you'll go when you die?

I would think that people on their circuit are realising that Stevie is a Psycho and the word spreads, hence little conference bookings. A Google search on them is bound to bring up this site.... Hi Stevie!!!!

Gosh I had a dream about my name sake the other day and had to tell him on our date, it's ok to be a gay.

There are educated, working wimmens speaking at the conference. One proudly loves sports and is married to a professional coach. Can Teri really want to sit and listen to someone with such idol problems?

Quite aside from love gifts, I'm sure most of the book and chore pack sales were through the conferences.  So now they have revamped the various business websites and taken out the god-speak to attract (or at least not turn off) non-Christians.  John is being allowed to work and interact with godless heathens, and Poor Sarah practically has a "for sale cheap" sign hung around her neck.

I hear a good way to attract the attention of the opposite sex is to take a puppy for walks.  Aha...!!!

Wishful thinking, but maybe this will open Teri's eyes and she will realize how much she has failed her kids. Steve ran marathons, Nathan and Chris played sports and they pulled them away from it all. The reversals never had a chance to even see normalcy. Maybe, just maybe she will think about the potential that was squashed in her offspring. Again, wishful thinking...

Oh man. There were so many obvious missed opportunities with the Maxwells. It's sad they didn't capitalize on them when they could have or they could've been doing better. Then maybe their older daughters wouldn't be so...doomed.

Fundie blinders at it again.

I think the conference is a sweet thing to do for Teri. I can't imagine her navigating an airport all alone, though. She always strikes me as more sheltered than her kids in some ways.

I honestly don't think that the Maxwell's realize that the way they raised their child is wrong.  Even though Sarah is unmarried.

I'm sorry to have caused that!  I meant it as, "Who will monitor Steve's every move and spoken word," not that someone else would enjoy sweet fellowshipping with the ole goat!!!!

I was thinking he'd spend the Teri-free nights on the boys' room bunk that Joseph vacated, maybe.

I agree their blog has lost any "excitement" it once had. At least before they had their annual conference trips now the blog consists of:

Look at the dog

Look at the cute children playing with their aunties

Look at us working in the yard

Look at the dog

Look at the cute children

Look at us us working on the house

With an occasional party for the elderly thrown in to spice things up.

I don't think any of them have the imagination to come up with interesting content-- the blog has always reflected (the Steve controlled and sanitized) Maxwell Life.  So without any births or marriages or road trips or creative activities, their readership must be falling.  Even their most rabid fans can only take so many pictures of Ellie and girls in long skirts doing work.

Actually, I could take pictures of the dog every hour on the hour. Prefer that Sarah is the human featured with Ellie -- it's nice too see both a happy dog and a happy looking human.

Oops---I'd better add this: Steve, your daughter isn't making an idol of the pooch! ***Please don't get any ideas!!!

ITA on both of these as a result of their extreme inward focus.    It's biting them in the butt economically but what's even more tragic is what it's done to Sarah and might just be her sisters' fate as well.

And they will not see what they did wrong.  Steveovah is convinced he's got it right, Teri has no voice whatsoever so even if she caught on to things, she would never voice it.  The kids, all of them, are too much in awe / worship of Daddy to see how their parents failed them.

Where to start....

1) That conference sounds as boring as shit.  If I were Terri, I would hop on that plane, toss my conference tickets in the first trash can I saw, call and book myself a private room,  and spend the entire two days ordering Chinese take out and watching tv.

2) Homeschooling really failed the Maxwell "kids".

3) I wonder if Terri and Steve ever feel weird about the fact that they've got a house full of adults passing them in the hall every morning.  It's not even like they have jobs during the day.  Nope, they're ALL there, ALL.THE.DAMN.TIME.

Seriously, I am 100% sure it would take me less than 2 hours to tell them all to go out and get lives.  Then I'd burn the schedule, head on down to the gas station and pick up a Diet Pepsi, and go out shopping for a nice pair of jeans.

This is the greatest lie they have indoctrinated in their children, and most likely, grandchildren.

I wonder the same. It's GOT to be odd! But I think they are convinced that their adult children DO have jobs and purposeful lives. They are all a part of Titus 2 Ministry, the family business. Ta-da! All better! No weirdness here.

I am sure they have convinced themselves of same.   But at the same time, are there any moments at all where Steve and Teri honestly wonder why so many adults at home?    Do either look around and realize that they are living pretty much the same way as they did when the kids were younger, except that Teri doesn't homeschool anymore?   The sense of it being the same year after year and wondering why?

ETA: I suspect that on some level this is what Steve and Teri always wanted.  Steve can be the patriarch/leader of his family, they validate him and his views and will never abandon him.  Teri, perhaps because of her depression issues, is emotionally dependent on her children and especially on her daughters, for emotional support (perhaps because she wasn't getting it from Steve) and for help around the house.    Even with though the needs of the household has changed from a household with young children to a household of all adults, she's still dependent on the help.    Yet at the same time, they may honestly have harbored hopes for their children to get married, have families, etc. yet when it comes down to it they cannot bear to let go of their kids, particularly the daughters.

Count me among the confused as to why Mother's Day had to be celebrated early because of a conference in....September??

I mean, if the conference were the weekend before Mother's Day, I can see presenting her with the "gift" early, but...um...what the heck?

When Sarah mentioned that Teri cried all day about the gift, my first thought was not that she was happy but that she was terrified. I think the thought of traveling alone and being away from Steve and the kids might overwhelm her with anxiety. Someone who suffers from depression and anxiety could really be thrown off by a trip she did not plan, especially when her structured lifestyle is basically what saved her life.  Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I'm not so sure Teri is thrilled about this adventure.

I hear you.  Crying all day over going on a trip like this seems like an extreme reaction but for someone with depression / anxiety, I can totally see it being very unsettling.   Hopefuly it was out of gratitude or excitement, but given Teri's history of debilitating depression, it's very possible she's not happy about it.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
