What is going on at the Maxwells?

It's all very incestuous, isn't it? If the Maxwells couldn't hire themselves out to each other, they'd never have any work. Christopher does okay with the real estate pix but then again, he's not exactly shooting high end stuff so it's all as boring as he is and it's right in his wheelhouse. He really should avoid photographing people altogether. Bed or bride, he treats them both the same.

I chose last night's bedtime as the moment to catch up on the Maxhell clan.  If I had stopped there, the ZZZZs would have been instant.

What a BORING bunch of people.  I believe that every life has intrinsic value, regardless of one's accomplishments.

However, this clan is making me second-guess that opinion!!

Today the Maxwell's enlighten us about a stain remover called "Grandma's".  This amazing product will remove all stains with the exception of the cleansing blood of Jesus.

The irremovable stain isn't the blood of Christ, it's the brainwashing by Stevehovah.

Whenever I look up "Maxwell Family Blog," one of the search results refers to it as "Official Titus 2" something-or-other. Does this piss anyone else off? Would other Christians be annoyed that Stevehovah is taking first dibs on the Titus 2 "brand"?

Sarah actually wrote a very nice Memorial Day post, thanking those who gave their lives, and mentioning her grandfather Rex who was a purple heart recipient.

No mention of aborted babies, and even the obligatory scripture verse was actually connected to what she wrote.

Nice pics of the ABCD kids holding the flag presented to Gigi at Rex's funeral.

I just went over to catch up on the blog and saw that. It's one of the least snarkable posts I can remember.

Isn't Anna Marie due soon?

Tina's KNEES are visible!! Abby's wearing a typical Maxwell ankle length skirt but Tina's showing off knee. Can't see any evidence of leggings either. Bethany's got leggings on under her skirt. Unless it's an old dress Tina's wearing and it still fits ie not tight.

There's been an update on Ruthie and her finger. The Maxwells may be despicable people, but at least they took Ruthie to the ER, unlike Erika Shupe, who, when Riley gouged his soft palate with a dowelling rod, took him to the naturopath/chiropractor. So much WTF.

I'm glad they took her to the ER as well.  Wonder if it was a female doctor that took care of her.

Glad Ruthie is doing ok.  That looked painful when it happened, poor kid.

Yeah, that's one thing I'll give the Maxwells credit for.  They don't seem to scrimp on medical care if needed.

I wonder if Christopher is a Samaritan member too?  What a pain to have to  negotiate every time you have to get medical care and then ask Samaritan for reimbursement.

I think all the second generation Maxwells are Samaritan members. Since Anna Marie delivers with a midwife, she's probably familiar with how the situation works. I doubt there's much negotiating there and that's probably their main medical expense.

True, but wouldn't they have to negotiate with the ER and then later with the surgeon?  And for any other similar situations that are bound to come up when you have kids?  I think that's how it works, but, to be honest, I've never quite understood exactly how Samaritan works.

Would a hospital/doctor be patient while you try to get money out of other members?  Most doctors and hospitals I've been to won't see you unless you pay your co-pay up front and they can verify insurance.

I'm confused.  All I saw was she had stitches and this is the second time I've seen someone say surgery or surgeon.  Was it stitches or surgery?  ER docs are generally trained and able to do the stitching unless it's really complex at least they are here.

From the blog:

Quote

Recently Ruthanne got her finger accidentally closed in a door. [snip] The ER nurses and doctor did great [snip] After many stitches, they bandaged up her finger and put a splint on it too

Quote

The ER recommended the stitches be removed in 6 days, but after they were out they weren’t sure it was healing properly and suggested an appointment with a children’s doctor/plastic surgeon/hand specialist. Last Thursday morning, Christopher and Anna Marie took Ruthie to see the specialist, and he said the finger looked great (incidentally he did mention that he recommends 6-10 days for stitches)! It’s a common injury

So not that big a deal apparently but she tore the flesh on her finger badly enough that she needed several stitches. The splint would have been put on to immobilize the cut so that she couldn't accidentally pull the stitches out.

The way Scamaritan works is they settle the bills and then request refunds from the group.  People pray on it and decide whether or not to help out.  I don't know what the threshold is for asking for assistance but I would guess that this little misadventure probably cost around a $1000:   ER bill, antibiotics, and visit to a specialist.

What I don't understand about this is it sounds like she went for her follow up care to the ER. ("The ER recommended the stitches be removed in 6 days, but after they were out they weren’t sure it was healing")  I'm not sure who the "they" refers to in that sentence but she should have gone to her pediatrician to have the stitches removed which would mean they have three bills:  ER, GP, Specialist.  The ER bill of course would be very high and the specialist appointment could also be pretty hefty even if it only took 10 minutes.

I wonder if Sarah is confusing an ER with an urgent care facility. It will always be cheaper at Urgent care and they will send you to the ER, if necessary, which is what happened to me. Urgent care will also tell you how much the procedure they will be performing will cost. The problem is that you need to pay out of pocket right then if you don't have insurance. Then again, the ER can't turn you down even if you are broke. I can see the Maxwells going to urgent care for something like Ruthie's finger but the ER if it seems like a big emergency.

Plus an urgent care would tell you to return to them for removal of the stitches and would make an appointment with a specialist if needed.  Sometimes they even have specialists who are there certain days of the week.

At our local urgent care clinic, they will accept less than full payment at time of service and bill you for the balance.

They would. I meant in general there wouldn't be a lot of negotiating because the ER/surgeon would be a rare occurrence. Apologies if my wording was unclear.

Wonder how Scamaritans feel about reimbursing NRAnna for varicose vein treatments. Guessing that since they're at least partly caused by pregnancy, they're hunky-dory with it.

I've never googled CM before but I love his Wedding Requirements page.

-No alcohol

-No dancing

-Modest attire for bride and bridesmaids

-No F-U-N (jk that's what it sounds like though)

What, do you have to send a picture of your dress and what the bridesmaids will be wearing?? Alyssa's wedding wasn't too bad but damn those goose-shit-green dresses. Ick.
