They often celebrate events like birthdays early or late. Like the God they worship, the Maxwells move in mysterious ways.

But! She has to room with another sweet woman who will be able to chaperon her on the trip! Mom can't have a sweet room all to her sweet self, after all!

I clicked on the link to the True Woman conference but there doesn't seem to be much information there yet.  I was curious to see who was speaking and what the daily schedule was.

Well good for Teri getting away alone., even if just to a fundie women's conference.

It occurs to me if the family set up all the details they must have chosen Teri's roommate for her.

Seriously!  Who else will keep her away from a wild Pepsi kegger?!

Methinks Steve is publicly loosening the family bonds because his flock is dwindling.  What with Sarah having her little solo getaway, John running all over the place all by himself, and Teri being allowed to go to a conference - it's chaos in Maxhell!

The title of the conference is "Cry Out" - seems very appropriate for Teri.  Six out of 11 featured speakers are men at a women's conference.  Naturally.  We can't let the wimmins get out of line.

If the conference isn't until September why on earth did they have to give her an early Mother's Day party.  Unless they are going to be "crazy busy," as Sarah would say, next month.  Interesting.

Information is all there, but didn't mean anything to me!

Must be my older than dirt computer.  Can't get past the homepage.

I did notice one of the speakers on the homepage is wearing jeans.  I hope that doesn't freak Teri out too much.

I just read an article Rachel Held Evans wrote on one of these conferences.  She says many of the attendees are professional women (who apparently don't see the irony that they wouldn't have their jobs if not for the feminist movement).  Teri's in for an interesting time.

But, but!! Who will be Steve's sweet accountability partner while Teri's gone, hmmm? Huh? Hah??

The reason for an April celebration of M Day is indeed to have something to boast about, since the posts about yard cleanup are pretty much all running into each other by now.

So Sweet Terified Teri cried all day and into the night....

I really think the Maxwells are hurting for money these days.  Attendance at their conferences had been declining over several years and they only got a few nibbles last year.

Quite aside from love gifts, I'm sure most of the book and chore pack sales were through the conferences.  So now they have revamped the various business websites and taken out the god-speak to attract (or at least not turn off) non-Christians.  John is being allowed to work and interact with godless heathens, and Poor Sarah practically has a "for sale cheap" sign hung around her neck.

Teri will go to the women's conference with as many books to sell as possible, and will be doing a lot of schmoozing  networking.  She presents as a professional woman so they are probably hoping she gets some speaking gigs herself out of this.

I suspect it's because they have absolutely nothing else to do.

I'm worried for Teri though.  A lot of the women on the promotional video looked dangerously worldly- jeans, leggings, short hair.  Maybe she'll need the 5 months before the conference to mentally prepare for the onslaught.

Ooh, the snark is deep and wide with this conference!

"Bringing women to their knees."  Nuh-uh.

Doug Phillips' ole buddy Kendrick the moviemaker is there. One whole person of color on the program, a woman, so a two-fer.

And speaking of dealings: why penalize the lonely woman, or lonely 9 women, who pay $139 each -- when groups of 10 or more pay $109 each?

But what a deal for the "senior pastor's wife," who only needs pay $39?  I prophesy that Steve Maxwell is Senior Pastor of The Church of the Elderly, amen???

And of course it's in Indiana, where women's freedoms dwindle more every day

Like Teri, I might cry all day - but for completely different reasons.

No no!  @MamaJunebug.  They have a whole track in Spanish!  And the speakers have Spanish names so they have the ethnic minorities covered.

All you need to register as a Senior Pastor's wife is the name of your church and the website. I'm sure Teri qualifies for the discount.  I suppose you have to email asking for more information about being a "ministry partner" (if that is the same as being a Senior Pastor's wife) to get the discount.

That said, I was sorely tempted to try to register as a Senior Pastor's wife to see whether they would reject me as unworthy.  Unfortunately I don't have a suitable website ready and don't want to waste $39 if they don't have a cancellation policy.  I didn't see a cancellation option on the site.

I wonder if something is going on next month. Surprise wedding again?

Hm...if so, it'll go with a surprise announcement of John or Jesse owning a home debt-free. Isn't that a prerequisite?

It seems the decline in business conferences has been going on for some time.   IIRC, it has to be about two years since their family brainstorming session which appears to signal the beginning of the decline.

Interesting that the Jesus-speak has been edited out of their sites and more freedom is being given to John as far as work. And now Teri is going to this conference, agree that is in the hopes of drumming up business.    Sarah has been allowed a dog and to travel.  What is the world coming to?!??

Either Steve is losing it early or more likely he's finding that when it comes to making the $$$ he has to cede that tight control over the family.   Funny how in Steve's case the money wins.  Controlling his wife and children's lives, limiting his kids' educations and life experiences keeping them tied to the family compound indefinitely is totes OK until he can't afford it.

@nokidsmom Yes, they had that big important all day Family Meeting to revamp the conference from "Inspire!" to "Energize!" in early 2013 because numbers were falling.  "Energize!" was the same old stuff with a bit more emphasis on Godly exercise and they introduced a Courtship lecture too.  They took "Energize!" through 2014 using Joseph and Elissa for Show and Tell.  Then they sold Uriah.

Last year they had only a "Ladies Evening," 2 weekend conferences, and a Sunday morning (afternoon off) and short evening gig.   That is all.  How art the mighty fallen.  You can see how conferences declined in quantity here http://www.titus2.com/past-conferences.html but they aren't admitting that the numbers attending and love offerings declined too.

I wonder what they would do if any of us tried to register as the pastor's wife and use the website for Landover Baptist!

I agree their blog has lost any "excitement" it once had. At least before they had their annual conference trips now the blog consists of:

Look at the dog

Look at the cute children playing with their aunties

Look at us working in the yard

Look at the dog

Look at the cute children

Look at us us working on the house

With an occasional party for the elderly thrown in to spice things up.

I don't think any of them have the imagination to come up with interesting content-- the blog has always reflected (the Steve controlled and sanitized) Maxwell Life.  So without any births or marriages or road trips or creative activities, their readership must be falling.  Even their most rabid fans can only take so many pictures of Ellie and girls in long skirts doing work.

@Handmaiden of Dog Well, but they did have John's Magical Mystery Tour ... that was a missed opportunity.  It would have added interest if they had said where he went and what he did but they refuse to tell anyone.  That gave us some fun speculation but I'm sure it pissed off their leg-humpers.

They really, really, need a wedding to spice things up again.

Could this be a reason why we've seen them do so many fasts over the last couple of years as well?

@Palimpsest, thanks for the link, the numbers sure don't lie.

When they sold Uriah at the end of 2014, that told me that "Energize!" didn't do much energizing.   Though they had 13 conferences in 2014 looking at 2010 they had over 30 so things really dropped off.  I suspect they might have been taking a loss what with the cost of gas and repairs on Uriah for some time so by the end of 2014, he had to go.

I totally think the fasts are Stevie's control thing.  Even if he personally wanted to fast for whatever reason, I absolutely don't get why it has to be imposed on the rest of the family unless you are a complete control freak.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
