I totally wanted to procrastinate writing a paper, so I went through her old public posts (luckily there weren't many!) and found it. I was curious too. I can't believe a chiropractor would treat such an injury... To me, that's like going to an allergist for a sprained ankle!

On another note, I noticed Erika has her ears triple pierced. What a rebel!!! I didn't realize multiple piercings in one's ear are permissible to fundies.

What. The. Hell. I'm glad it didn't go strait through, too! *snort*

This sounds like an injury you take your child to urgent care for! Not the damn chiropractor!

I'm sure there's something "whispy" about those piercings! How dare you juge her!

*CHUCKLEFUCK*

PALATE!  IT'S A PALATE! Pallet is what you put food cans on, for crying out loud.

These people home-school? (excuse me: hom-skool)

For freak's sake, if you have a Significant Trauma, you grab onto an ER practitioner and follow up from there, if it's not serious enough to call in a plastic surgeon or a board-certified specialist in Whatever Portion of Body Got Clobbered.

I'm horrified when I hear how people use chiropractors for everything from nutrition to allergies.  No offense to any providers actually trained in those specialties, but there is no shame in seeing a medical doctor.  I remember seeing a 20/20 episode on how some chiropractors would "treat" children by proxy while treating the parents.  One married pair of chiropractors flounced after a few questions about a specific child's case (their chief complaint was "Who took these Xrays?")  I believe their name was Peete.

Thanks! I don't know how I missed that! :pb_lol:

And yes, that is a significant injury. I'm going to go ahead and say it, I feel this is medical neglect. He needed to see a physician!

I had to look up the entry myself and read the comments. I had a giggle-snort reaction at the fact that she actually calls him Dr. Nick :pb_lol:

It's always so weird to see you guys using Fahrenheit for temperature. I'm so used to using Celsius... every time I see you talking about 50 degrees or whatever I have to remind myself that it's Fahrenheit or else I picture you guys all roasting!

Preparing to be all roasted over here, but it's probably gonna be in Hellfire, and not sure whether that's F or C.

supposedly everyone has had annual checks with a pediatrician?  http://www.largefamiliesonpurpose.com/2013/01/well-child-check-ups-how-we-do-them.html

Edit:  as of Feb 2013, they do check ups w/ their chiro.  so long pediatrician.  (comments on Scamaritin reveal this.)  http://www.largefamiliesonpurpose.com/2013/02/samaritan-ministries-biblical-non.html

I was going to make the same comparison about the "whispy" hair and the piercings. Like maybe certain types of earrings enhance her countenance, so it's okay. *snicker*

As for the "pallet" injury, it sounds horrifically painful, not to mention a breeding ground for an infection. I can't believe they didn't take the kid straight to the ER or at least urgent care. I don't know much about chiropracters... would they be required to refer a patient to another type of doctor if they lacked adequate expertise/equipment to deal with an issue? Like if I went to my GP with a serious foot problem, she'd refer me to a podiatrist.

Saw a kid with that injury recently,  mum took him to the emergency room, he saw ear nose and throat specialists and was observed overnight before going home.  2 days later he stopped turning his head and mum was concerned (having listened to the doctors who warned that toss could change and to come straight back if that happened). No one could see what was down his throat, but the x-ray showed that it was nearly blocked.  Thus kids intensive care from another hospital came and took him. Even that day he was running around playing (extra grumpy, but playing).

Not taking a kid with a head/neck/throat injury to an emergency room/urgent carecentre place is neglect, he could have blocked his airway and died...

Her comment on the entry you linked about Scamaritan....

We no longer do immunizations or therefore check-ups either (we now do check ups through our chiropractor/naturopath instead of with a pediatrician), and we've had so many babies I haven't need to pay for an additional mammogram. =) But even if we were paying for those $100 office visits once in a while we'd still save a TON of money.

She was responding to someone's comment about the company not covering preventative care. Now I just want to cry. Neither she nor any of her kids are getting preventative care through a doctor/NP/etc. A chiro can't necessarily screen for most chronic diseases, and doesn't have the training to recognize them. And she isn't getting mammograms? Not to get too vulgar, but what about a regular checkup at the ob/gyn (not just when pregnant)? Holy smokes. I can see this turning out horribly in so many ways and it just makes me sad to think about it.

On the topic of chiropractors, I've seen 2 (lower back injury years ago). The first was crazyyyyy and kept telling me that his adjustments could cure me of everything from back pain to asthma to depression. I knew he was full of crap, but the adjustments did make my back feel better, so I kept going. The second flat-out called the first chiro crazy for his claims, and she does wonders on my back - I threw it out a few weeks ago, and she adjusted it that day (still hurt like hell), then I went back a few days later and she adjusted it, and the next day it felt amazing.

tl;dr version...some chiros are crazy. Some are great. Some people like them, others hate them. But none of them should be pretending to be primary care/family docs.

Back home in the rural area I grew up there were 3 brothers who were all chiros in 3 neighboring towns, plus one of the wives was also a chiro & another wife was a massage therapist.  My family was into seeing the chiro IN ADDITION to a MD, so I grew up with chiropractic.  However, these chiros were of the natural health mumbo jumbo type.  I still see a chiropractor regularly & in many cases find instant relief of my sacroiliac/piriformis/sciatic pain after an adjustment for whatever reason (placebo or otherwise).  The chiro I see now is very sports medicine based & works with several of the local professional & college teams.  I doubt I'd see the natural health type if given a choice.

I love the chiropractor now because it's the only thing besides physical therapy that helps my back pain. Of course, I started going to the chiropractor, massage therapist, and physical therapist after my regular doctor basically told me there was nothing else they could do about my back. I can't imagine using a chiropractor for anything besides back or neck pain, or not seeing a real doctor for health problems.

Babies = no mammogram? Uh, Erika? I was diagnosed with breast cancer when my daughter was two. They estimate that most breast cancers grow 4-8 years before they are discovered. So, yeah, pregnancy does not prevent breast cancer; though pregnancy before 30 can reduce risk. A friend of mine was diagnosed WHILE she was pregnant.

I hate ignorance, especially of the willful sort.. Medical science is not inconsistent with religion. Washington State has ACA subsidies. Kids need checkups and vaccines. There is just no excuse.

I'm disgusted! I could vomit. I work with children and it pisses me off when people don't take care of their kids! I have nothing against naturopathy. I think there are times they can be helpful with care from medical providers who provide evidence based care. Children don't get to make decisions about their health care. It's not fair that people like Erika are able to have nine children and neglect their medical needs. :angry-banghead:

Or maybe she just means you  can't get a mammogram while pregnant (which is true, generally) or while nursing (because the milk ducts are full of milk so the results are hard to read). I hope that's what she means. But I suspect she means Jesus wouldn't let her get cancer after she surrendered her family un-planning to him.

All I could think is that she read that nursing may lower risk of breast cancer and assumed that meant she's 100% protected.

It's really disturbing that they're not getting regular checkups with an MD. And if she's not willing to pay for mammograms, I'm guessing other common preventative items like prostate cancer screening and pap tests are out of the question, too (even if with evil Obamacare, it's probably very low or no cost).

IIRC, she has mentioned that nursing never worked out for her, either, so even that moderate boost against breast cancer would be lost on her.

It amazes me that people can willingly, happily, loudly turn their backs on preventative care and vaccinations. I wonder who she saw after the last miscarriage. And I really wish that the kids had a true medical professional examine them and talk with them at least annually. What a way to treat all those blessings from Jesus...

Wait, wait, wait.  I followed the link to Big E's blog regarding Scamaritan.   Am I correct in my understanding that, in order to get your "need" reimbursed (after you've paid in full, up front, natch) you must publish your PERSONAL INFORMATION, including name, address, and PRIVATE/CONFIDENTIAL health info for complete strangers to peruse?!?!?

Forgive the yelling.  I deal with several chronic health issues, and have had so freaking many people in and out of my business over the years that I now fiercely protect every last scrap of my health-related info.  I cannot imagine putting my name, my address, and a damn story for god-knows-who to read, every time I needed to head to the clinic.  Sure, prayers and encouragement rock, but DUDE!  Strangers do NOT need to know my business!!

Calming down now....sort of...not really....am I misunderstanding here?

I so agree!  I thought about privacy today as I casually perused FJ and jumped over to Erika's blog.  She has completely dumped their personal info for all consumption.  I despise that much of our lives have become public through a quick Google search (phone no, address, property ownership). Utilizing either the blog OR Samaritans Purse to distribute sensitive health information of your family is so gross to me.  If idiots want to post their own business all over the Internet with personal and identifying info for all to see, ok!  Leave the kids out of it. However that would limit my snark as well as Erika's material.

Snark to follow:

She doesn't vaccinate???  Holy hell!  That healthy veggie soup ain't gonna protect those munchkins from MMR/Flu/pertussis/norovirus  I am just a mom and that's the best I can muster for shit that I can get my babies a little shot for to prevent not only my kids staying well but more importantly my responsibility to not spread possibly fatal illnesses to those young and old or with compromised immune systems.

Or hopefully she does vaccinate but her terrible writing style led me to believe that she does not?
