What is cuddly, fluffy and starts with an E? Sarah Maxwell Gets a Dog

THOUGHT it would be a puppy. It looks cute. And dogs are better than cats when it comes to schedules- when people were discussing Erika getting a pet, people were talking about their feline headships.

Sarah looks happy. I hope everything works out. I hope there isn't a repeat Erika situation where it gets dumped after two months.

Awww, such an adorably puppy, and Sarah's smile still doesn't quite reach her eyes.

After many closed and then open doors, I found this little darling. Wow. She’s so sweet: cuddly, lively, and Miss Personality.

Here we see more of her weird writing style. :P

You can do a Google Search on the difference, but the English Creams have European roots and are very light among several things.

Only if properly trained first, but how can you get that training now that 1TonRamp is over?

Also 'among several things' is yet more odd phrasing.

What a cute pup. I just recently fell down the Maxwell rabbit hole a few weeks ago and I am so disappointed that it's not a courtship for Sarah. But, I love animals more than anything so now all my worry and feel bad-ness will shift from Sarah to Ellie the pup.

I think of all the creatures under Stevehovas reign, the dog will have the best life. Unless Stevehova beats her, which I really hope he won't do. Otherwise, dogs usually don't mind a strict schedule and they have to be submissive to their people (if a dog thinks he's the boss, you have a problem) anyway. They will probably feed him properly and they like to go on long walks, so I don't think the dog will have a bad life at all.

I wonder if Ellie will be required to have Bible Time.

According the an article I read yesterday at Vogue.com, dogs are the new cats for single women.

That's funny, because thinking about, all the single and/or childfree women I know IRL have dogs. A couple have cats, too, but it's pretty much all dogs.

Poor Ellie. She already looks so over it in her solo shots.

Apparently, she did not grow up around cameras.

This is one cute puppy.

There will be no meeting a hot guy at the dog park or even obedience class for Sarah.  She will train the dog herself in the Auntie's Park so as not to attract attention to herself in public.

The dog is really cute.  I'm surprised she mentioned she researched the breed online and that she suggests people Google it if they want to know more.  Where did she hear about Google, I wonder?

She looks happy, but it really does sort of signify a replacement for marriage and children.

Oh, and Jesse had a guinea pig once that was his and not a family pet, so I guess it's Sarah's turn to have a pet of her own.

There are several things going on that are unusual for the Maxwells.  First this sounds like it is Sarah's choice and Sarah's alone.  I'm sure she had to OK it with the parents but she doesn't say that in her post.  Second it doesn't sound like it is to be a family pet, but rather Sarah's dog.  So I have to wonder if she paid for it herself and if it was solely her idea or if this was an idea generated by Steve and Teri. Perhaps this is a gentle way of announcing that there will be no bridegroom and no children for Sarah.  What happens if two years down the road she Stevehovah does find a prospective bridegroom-- but one that is allergic to dogs?  Would Sarah be expected to give up her dog in order to get married?

All in all I feel like this is not a bad outcome.  A dog will be a constant companion who will provide unconditional love and bring joy to her life without unwanted sexual demands or a massive upheaval in lifestyle.  Sarah may never know romantic love and sexual passion but she will also never know marital rape and PPD while trying to home school too many children.

Soooooooo cute!!

I wonder if they adopted her or bought her from a breeder? I remember Erika's great shih tzu adventure involved several breeders, which was odd because she (and most fundie people) are usually so frugal.

Anyway... soooooo cute!!

She even made something as wonderful as getting a dog sound boring. She has a true gift, that girl.

Maybe it is a test. If Sarah can prove she can take care of a puppy, Steve will find that she is capable of being married and taking care of a baby.

Unmarried,  no kids and two BIG dogs here! Dogs rule!

:cat: -I think that's a dog.

I thought all fundies were experts in all things having to do with human reproduction.  They certainly are prolific.

I have a cat and a dog and I love both just as much as I love my closest family members (and more than the rest). I know there are reasonable and normal people who feel it is impossible to love an animal this much but I am not really friends with those sorts (and I suspect they would consider me a nut and not want to be friends with me). Now I read that Steve can't see loving an animal at all ( as per his dad's corner post). I just can't stand him.

No, it's not an embryo; it's a baby from the time s/he is a gleam in the daddy's eye

I'm delighted that Sarah has Ellie, and even happier to read the tone of that post. We all know the pecking order of decision making in the House of Steve. Yet, that post had a decided flavor of "autonomous choice" to it. I have absolutely no doubt that Steve had to be consulted multiple times before Sarah was even allowed to believe that she really wanted a dog, but it's interesting (to me) that Sarah was able to frame the process in such a way as to exclude Steve's input.

Failing to mention your Headship at every conceivable opportunity? That's basically Fundy Feminism.

In Erika's case, The Lord told her to get a Shih-Tzu, so therefore it was totally fine to spend a bunch of money.  Several times over.

Pure bread puppy?  She went through a breeder.  Now, that doesn't mean she didn't adopt a dog in need.  My co-worker is a championship bulldog breeder (he has to take a month off with every litter because not only do they not give birth on their own, they also cannot be left alone with the pups), and even with very responsible breeding, you get some with health problems.  It can be tough for them to find homes for those guys, and it is possible that she took a puppy that wasn't otherwise eligible for sale.

In last year's litter, my co-worker had a deaf pup.  LOVELY dog, really smart, but deaf.  Now D really cares about his dogs, so he got a full work up on this pup.  When it came back that she was a fully healthy dog, just deaf, D found and paid for a specialist to come in and train her using signs.  Then, he found a family with a deaf child, and gave them the dog.

But that's the kind of effort you have to go through if you have a pup with issues.  D spent hundreds on that dog getting it ready to rehome, then countless hours finding a good family for it.  Most people just don't want a pup with medical issues, especially if they want a pure bred, so a lot of those dogs end up getting put down.  Even if it is something very minor like a minor hip issue, Sarah may have saved a life.
