I didn't know that Mama June said that TLC had known about the Josh scandal since 2006. That's very interesting. I'm sure it came up in the original Joshgate threads, but those were moving so fast I couldn't ever totally keep up with them.

I'm not looking forward to these people being back on TV. I never watched the show much, but I always felt like the family was the butt of the joke somehow. Also, people on the internet were awful in how they shamed their accents and bodies. I'm really not looking forward to that coming back either.

I'm also curious about what gets said behind TLC's closed doors.  Weird that she'd know about that...unless she's repeating an internet rumor.  She wasn't the most truthful when she was shown to be exposing her children (again) to a known child molester.

Their show was total poverty porn.  It seemed designed to just laugh at the family.  Now, some shows like Duck Dynasty do that, too, but DD is completely in on the joke.  Their shows are quite scripted, but have enough family love to keep it together (my daughter got hooked at a friend's house, and now I know too much!).  Honey Boo Boo was just about laughing at the family, what they ate, how they lived, etc.  Damn.  Very disappointing to see them sign up for another round of that.

I only caught bits and pieces of the show, and it really rubbed me the wrong way. Something about it just felt yucky; I can't really put words to why.

Also, can you imagine that show or the Duggars being Black families? I won't get started on that soap box, but anyway, I hope they aren't returning.

I agree with you 100%. The DD folks are in on the joke and they ham it up because that's their schtick. Honey Boo Boo is poverty porn and -maybe I'm just an embittered Southerner- I see this as another way for people to poke fun at southern people who are an exaggeration of the common stereotypes. I've been living in the pacific northwest for almost 3 years now and being treated like I must be some backwater, uneducated idiot (simply because I'm from Texas) gets really tiring. I hate to sound whiny, but I hate shows like this because they add fuel to the fire.

Gawker had a couple clips from that show, and they were so exploitative and just...nasty.  I mean, if grown adults want to sign off on having their lives depicted so negatively in the national arena, well, let them use their free will.  But kids?

We shouldn't get that soap box out, but man....if it had been a Black mom with four kids from different men -- can you imagine the vitriol from viewing audiences?  Or the Duggars or the Bates -- there would have been a LOT more publicity about their "love offerings" from churches  and loans from children.  People would have had a LOT more to say about Black men choosing to quit jobs and call on God to support their families.

@amandaaries EXACTLY! I'm sure we can't even fathom how audiences would respond! Ugh, it gets me fired up just thinking about it! I'm not one to pull out race issues just because something rubs me the wrong way, but this would absolutely cause uproar if these were Black families! :soapbox:

Okay, stepping down now.

I agree with this. It's just poverty porn, and a way for people to be able to laugh at the family. It's why TLC is now The Looney Channel as in this case, the point is to have some people to laugh at.

I started calling TLC the "Trashy Living Channel" awhile back...  Why in the world would they bring back HBB when the issue that took them off the air  (the child molester fraternization ) is still valid? I guess the heads of TLC  (discouragingly, somewhat rightly) assume viewers will just forget the reason...

I use to like the show. Then the scandal broke. Needless to say I'm not a fan anymore. They disgust me!

Please, Jesus, no!  Once upon a time, when a TV show was cancelled, it stayed cancelled. Now these shows are like the zombie apocalypse--they just won't stay dead!

This women disgusts me. I thought their show was stupid, but that's not the issue I have with her. How could she ever expose her child to a child molester? Much less one that assaulted her own daughter! It makes me rage. I can't even stand to see her face without thinking about her poor daughter. How can she live with herself? She is a disappointment to the human race.

Maybe I'm just overly sensitive. I found out my mother was dating a child molester (the victim was not related to us at all) and letting my nieces and nephews around him, I immediately cut all contact. I cannot wrap my mind at all around people that would actually watch her on TV or support her in any way. How can anyone even remotely think this is in anyway okay?

I consider putting kids on regular reality tv regularly child abuse. I constantly tell Duggar humpers they ar no different than the rest.and if they were another race many fans wouldn't praise them. response. Being a Tennessean, I also hate the depiction of Southerners, though I feel most of HBB is exaggerated like other shows for affect. However, many viewers still think everything is real on reality tv.. .
No more HBB, Gosselins or Duggars, and get rid of the Bates please.

Molesters should be banned from being within 1000 yards of victims.  They never get sent away long enough, so at least ban them from coming close to the kids they hurt.

Molesters belong in prison for the rest of their lives...no parole.

Seriously, how bad does a person have to be to have their reality TV career permanently destroyed? I thought turning a blind eye to child molestation would be a dealbreaker, but the Duggars and now the HBBs are back on TV.

I don't think there is a deal-breaker anymore.  Tabloid Lovers Channel loves this stuff.

What I read was that it was a different network picking them up not TLC.  Still it's horrible that they are going to be on TV again.

The movie Network predicted this sort of thing:

Nelson Chaney: All I know is that this violates every canon of respectable broadcasting.

Frank Hackett: We're not a respectable network. We're a whorehouse network, and we have to take whatever we can get.

Nelson Chaney: Well, I don't want any part of it. I don't fancy myself the president of a whorehouse.

Frank Hackett: That's very commendable of you, Nelson. Now sit down. Your indignation is duly noted; you can always resign tomorrow.

June and Sugar Bear will be on the upcoming season of "Marriage Boot Camp": Reality Stars. It premieres on December 4 on the WE channel. I might watch it to see how the rednecks from Georgia get along with everybody else.

I liked the show.. not because of June, but because of the daughters. I liked all four of them, they were genuinely funny and constantly poked fun at each other. Pumpkin (Lauryn) especially seems like a really good-hearted girl, it's a shame she is being manipulated by her mother. Alana also seemed sweet but seems to have become a bit of a brat (if so it's June's fault, not hers). Jessica (the 18-year old) seems to have distanced herself a bit from the family and poor Anna seems to have forgiven her mother again. Ugh.

I agree, and any mother who allows a molester around her children, especially if he'd victimized an older child should lose custody of those children permanently and sterilized so she doesn't bring in any more potential victims. That sounds harsh, but I think it's disgusting that a mother would chose a child molester instead of protecting her children. Other animal mothers are willing to fight to the death to protect their young.

In addition, I think child molesters should also be castrated if they won't be given prison sentences of life without parole.
