Ronda Rousey emasculates Floyd Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather, champion boxer and serial batterer of women, is called out on live television, at the ESPY awards, by Ronda Rousey, winner of 'Best Fighter of the Year' award.

"I wonder how Floyd feels being beat by a woman for once," Rousey said. "I'd like to see you pretend to know who I am now."

Red-carpet interview with Ronda Rousey;

If you do not know who Floyd Mayweather is, 'dickipedia' is a great place to start;

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/05/0 ... 85034.html

His history of domestic violence goes back 14 years. Yet, he pulled in a $220,000,000. purse for his last fight, alone. But, who won 'Fighter of the Year' at the ESPY awards?! UFC fighter, Ronda Rousey!! Never mind that I do not care for UFC. I feel very proud for her, and her landmark stance against Floyd.

In previous interviews, she has had this to say about 'Five-Time Woman-beater of the Year' Floyd Mayweather;

"I would never say that I can't beat anyone," Rousey said. "I don't think me and him would ever fight unless we ended up dating." :worship:

But, why is it that our society chooses to, essentially, overlook Floyd Mayweather's history of domestic-violence? Why are we okay with promoting him, and rewarding him with record payouts?! "He makes millions throwing punches. He earns his living using his fists. The fact that he uses these same fists to beat women does not seem to matter to CBS (which owns Showtime), the MGM Grand, the Las Vegas gaming industry or the sponsors associated with Saturday's fight."

1. :dance: :dance: :cracking-up:

2. Mayweather is a dick. Domestic violence is the worst side of him, but I don't think there are any good sides. :x

3. Money and victory win way more often than they should. It's how Mayweather is still in boxing. It's how Hope Solo was able to win a World Cup. It's how Ray Rice and other abusers in the NFL have their cases incredibly mishandled. And it pisses me the fuck off. :pull-hair:

4. I don't understand how Mayweather is still considered a big enough figure to pull so much attention. Yes, we get it he's won so damn much but after awhile don't people get bored of him. Or are most people hate watching to see if he loses. I have to admit that I hate followed the Mayweather-Pacquiao match on a live update website. I grew up in Vegas and everyone I talked about him with hated his guts. But here in the DC area, I've met a few Mayweather fans. Like I kinda, kinda get it, although it doesn't make it right) with team sports as to why domestic violence would be easier to overlook. It's hard to say that the US would have gone home with the World Cup if they had a goalie other than Solo, for instance. But Mayweather is an athlete in an individual sport. What's the appeal/"need"?

I must admit, I dont know much surrounding the issues with Hope Solo, say for bad-press alleging she is a violent drunk. Ill have to read into it!

Shortly before the Pacquiao v Mayweather fight, Floyd did a round of press to bolster his image before the fight. This included an interview with Katie Couric. She did bring up his criminal record of domestic violence - but only one incident. She hardly pressed him, which goes to show how much she had to compromise her integrity to win the bid for his interview. Even then, he tried to explain away the incident - one wherein he was convicted and spent two months in jail. “Did I kick, stomp, and beat someone? No, that didn’t happen,†said Mayweather. “I look in your face and say, ‘No, that didn’t happen.’†:shock:

BUT, "According to a statement filed with police, Mayweather appeared at the home of Josie Harris, whom he no longer lived with, upset that Harris was in a relationship with another man. Harris told police Mayweather grabbed her by the hair, pulled her down, and started punching her. Their son, Koraun Mayweather, gave a statement in which he said, in part, “I heard yelling and I came out and my dad was hiting [sic] my mom.â€

He furthermore elaborated to claim his victim/baby-mama was "on drugs", and lied. Now she is suing him for defamation to the tune of $20 million! His own son testified as witness in this case where he plead guilty and served time, but to save face for this one fight, he lied - denied everything!! This is only one of five confirmed domestic-violence incidents - he has no conscience, none!! Gross! :wanker: :puke-huge:

Still, the press largely ignores his serial battery! Maybe now, considering Ronda Rousey's bold, and very public statements, a light will begin to shine on his horrible character - too bad hes already retired. I am just afraid that his ego is too big to ever be brought down. I do not say this about many men, but he scares me!!

(There I go again, writing another essay!! Oops. ) :shrug:

Floyd's domestic violence, as well as Hope's, Ray's, etc, etc, is overlooked or minimized because they bring in the dough. The "MayPac" fight generated $400 million in PPV alone, nevermind all the sponsors and whatever other revenue sports generates.

I watched the fight on HBO a few weeks after the live event and Mayweather isn't even a good boxer (I'm an expert in these things :D ). He basically ran around the ring avoiding Pacquiao. So, I don't get why people like him as an "athlete" in the first place.

Go Rhonda! I know some people don't like her but I think she's a badass and I like that she made Dana White eat his words about women not fighting in the UFC, and I don't even like MMA.

Talent is part of it, but I can't help but wonder about the culture of toxic masculinity in "fighting sports" like MMA and boxing. I don't say that to knock them, they're exciting and require talent, but it's one of the industries in which we're seeing young men being rewarded for aggressive behavior outside the ring and on inappropriate targets. It adds to their image as bad boys you don't fuck with or disrespect, and that's an appealing trope for a lot of people.

Unfortunately, there are many calling Rousey a bitter cunt because she's speaking up and god forbid a woman takes umbrage with an abuser. :roll:

Hmm. The NFL comes to mind; they too were thinking of money, of course, when downplaying players' domestic violence for so long, it blew up in their face - the media turned on them. Then again, a large factor in NFL domestic-violence debacle had to do with the fact that men are not their only demographic. Families watch football together, women included. Most women don't give two shits about boxing, and thus no conversations are started.

There are the occasional women, who have the testosterone, to appreciate fighting sports and really get-into-it. However, even I couldn't bring myself to watch the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. It was overkill, with so many wasted dollars on such an expired, overrated punchingdouche-bag. A complete and utter turnoff.

Speaking of toxic masculinity, remember that incident with an MMA-fighter, who had legally changed his name to, yes, 'War Machine' (below, right)? He beat his porn-star girlfriend Christy Mack (Mack tattoed on his neck) to a pulp, in a fit of jealousy, and in turn she was in need of massive reconstructive surgery. Just previously, he was photographed wearing a shirt reading, "I do Alpha Male Shit". But at least he in in jail! There was a lot of hubbub over the crime - it happened only last fall. And now, completely out of the news - long forgotten! Aside from the money... Suppose most men interested in fighting to begin with, just don't have the same humanitarian awareness, to start a conversation and keep it, so as to provoke media, who then have an even harder time keeping the conversation going - and in order to do so they need graphic pictures that paint a clear picture of a "victim" instead of cheating-girlfriend. :roll:

Pandering to their audience is a good point, I hadn't considered that. It also feels like the NFL tries to convey a sense of outward morality that fighting doesn't bother with. Which is silly because they're both embroiled in cheating, drugs, illegal gambling, whatever. I think you're spot on re audience, though.

Oh god. I loved it, I laughed and I laughed and I laughed.

War Machine is scary, and people (MRAs, so I'm using the term loosely) love him. He's a ril man!

I think most of the press attention happened because his partner is/was an adult film actor, so they got to use the sparkly ~PORN STAR~ taboo that comes with that. Despite being outwardly sympathetic, they also go into salacious detail about the porn industry, her tattoos, her hair, what she wore to court (as though expecting her in a g-string), how "demure" she was... Yarg. It was so weirdly passive-aggressive.

I don't understand why what Rousey said was "emasculating". Loved her later comments in response to Floyd sputtering that he made the most money per minute in fighting. Rousey pointed out she makes the most money per second. And then said if Floyd had a problem with it, he should text her ... after he learns how to read and write. Delicious burn, but again, not "emasculating".
