Off topic: I had a thought today that made me chuckle. Won't Steve and company be pissed if/when judgement day came and Jesus just sent everyone up to Heaven? :o Like it turned out skirt length didn't even matter? :D

There a story I was told that's similar to your thought. The gist was a guy gets to heaven and is telling Peter how surprised he is that all these "sinners" from his life are here in heaven. Peter tells him they're just as surprised to see him too for the same reason.

I found this post by her extremely interesting. You see a few years ago a relative of mine went to see a psychologist to be treated for depression. Amongst other things he was told that he should wake up each morning and make his bed. I thought this was strange advice, but after a bit a research I found that this was common advice given to those fighting depression. This really makes me wonder if Teri saw a counselor or psychologist when she was fighting depression. It may be reading too deep into the post but this was my first thought.

I make my bed every morning before I go downstairs to start my day. I like coming up at night to a made bed rather than a mess of blankets and sheets.

That comforter, though. :shock: And that bedskirt :? I really don't like to question the personal taste of others, especially as my own is nothing to write home about, but I think all those colors would keep me awake at night! :pink-shock:

Also, could that be a computer screen rather than a TV? Although it's in a really odd place if it is.

Who cares about the decorating. Besides, maybe the slaves daughters made the quilt--lots of people are sentimental about that, so I'll give her a pass. But ceramic tile in a bedroom that's not in a tropical climate? brrrrrrrr

Leave it to Teri to make something stupid and normal into a big deal that has to be made into a habit and reinforced with the old plumbing supply line when not done!

Making my bed is the one chore I refuse to do. My bed must be open and ready to jump into at all times. Also, you got points taken off at academy for not making it smooth enough, so if there was even one wrinkle, you got marked off. Drove the deans and me crazy at academy.

I think it is a TV, and it looks like it is sitting atop...a box??? :? The way it's stacked it looks like it's been placed for convenient viewing from the bed. And Steve crops the photo in 5...4...3....

As for the general Steve told Teri about the speaker talked about - she makes it sound like this general (who was not a general when he was in daily contact with recruits, I'm sure, but....) had a unique way of training his "basic trainees." Um, no. I'm pretty sure all military trainees are making their beds at the crack of dawn every day. It's part of the discipline they are being taught. So is the drill instructor's decision to tear the bed apart and make them start over, just because he can.

I bet Steve once said something like "when I was in the military, we had to make our bed every day or face the wrath of the sergeant." And that turned into this blog post.

Actually, the tile floor in Kansas in the summer makes great sense. Bare feet on a cool tile floor can be very comforting when the heat index is >100 outdoors. They can always roll in area rugs in the winter.

In Germany the floors are often tile throughout, I'm told. Easy to clean and again, rugs can be added.

I'd e guessed it was an anti-allergy thing but that eyebrow wreath above the bed is all about dust, so...no.

Ok, to the bed-making. I heard recently that a military leader explained that recruits must make their beds because if they have a terrible day in which nothing goes right, when they get back to their room/barracks, they'll see ONE thing they did right that day. I really liked that!

The tile floors don't surprise me. With the exception of the room where they have bible study, the entire house seems fairly devoid of comfort and warmth. Cold floors in winter are probably considered good for the soul. It wouldn't surprise me if they took cold showers, too. For more reasons than one.

Mark me in the column of people who like to make my bed before I leave for work. Coming home to an unmade bed, or a sink with dirty dishes, bothers me. So those are two things I do every morning: Get up, wash any dirty dishes that accumulated from between washing the dinner dishes and the next morning; make my bed, and generally straighten up (look around for any papers or other trash and throw it away, put the clean and dry dishes from the dish rack to where they belong, sweep the kitchen floor, straighten the pillows on the couch).

Thinking it over, I guess I do have a need for neatness and order. LOL. I don't even think about it. Those are just the things I do in the morning before I leave home.

Never mind that it is the only thing from that speech that applies to the Maxwells. Change, venturing out on your own, endurance in the face of hardship...not so much.

I remember the speech because several friends sent it to me last year since they knew I am extremely OCD about MAKING the bed every morning. If my husband gets up later, he makes the bed, but I MAKE the bed. The difference is that, when I MAKE the bed, it is worthy of a magazine photo shoot. Depending on the season, either a comforter or heavily woven coverlet is folded up at the end. We have four bed pillows, but nine decorative pillows. Everything hangs evenly on all four sides. There is no bed skirt; instead I sewed a boxspring cover that allows the area under the high bed to show, neat and tidy.

It's a joke with people, but I swear it saves me mentally every day to leave the room with it looking perfect, and to return to it looking the same at the end of a long day.

I have lupus and after living a relatively pain free life since I was diagnosed over 10 years ago, it has found me with a vengeance. My hands, wrists and elbows are so arthritic that there are days I can't hook my bra, can't apply deodorant, can't tie sneakers. On those days, the bed still gets MADE, even when I can barely pull up the sheets, and have to lift one pillow at a time, held in one hand but supported by the other, to the bed.

Even when there are so many things I can no longer do, I can do that. And it keeps me sane.

God help me, I agree with a Maxwell on this point.

I don't make the bed on a regular basis. The door to my bedroom is usually kept shut so doesn't matter for me.

That bedroom is surprisingly - colorful - for the Maxwells. Not to my taste and I can't abide useless decorative pillows on the bed.

Teri, you silly superior sanctimonious sausage. I make the bed every day, although it is something I've skipped if I need to get out of the house fast or am really busy. Some people actually work, you know.

My mama taught me to fold back the covers and let the bed air for a bit, so I think making it immediately you get out of bed is a bit odd. It actually sounds almost unhealthy! :) I just fluff and straighten the pillows and because I use a duvet in a cotton cover without a top sheet, European style, one good shake and a smooth and it's all done.

I really don't think bed-making is a particularly virtuous habit.

I could have lived without ever seeing the site of Maxwell backrubs/sweet fellowship. It does look nicely made though. Mine never looks that good.

They also don't have to contend with a territorial cat though.
