"No coercion, force, or undue influence has been employed against either of us in negotiations leading to the execution of this marriage by either other party hereto or by any other one whomsoever."

And they say romance is dead.

So they're shackin up....BFD.

It's funny to me that they didn't want to get a marriage license so they used a workaround like lgbt couples have done for decades. And they still filed it with the county, which adds an extra layer of yeah-you-really-showed-them! (I could be wrong--I only skimmed the link)

This grandstanding about covenant marriage seems to be very common in these circles. See the Fundies Respond to the SCOTUS decision thread and David Botkin on FB in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=26210&hilit=David+Botkin

Probably they would be refused a Covenant church wedding if they went off and got a marriage license like heathens and lgbt folk do. But then they file the paperwork with the county anyway. Do they realize how hypocritical they are?

Is it only TX that recognizes a common law marriage filed like this - or do other states and the Feds also recognize it?

According to the National Council of State Legislatures, only eight states in the U.S. currently recognize common law marriage: Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah. There used to be more...

I believe he and/or his family are also friends of the Manteufels and several other VF inner circle families. I can't remember who told me that, so take it with as many salt shakers as you deem necessary.

This description of the Short family may be dated. It looks as though it was written before the Fall of Doug -- but definitely they know the families involved well.

Why am I not surprised to see New Hampshire there?

The usual suspects in popular states for off-gridders.

Yep. One of my Colorado relatives who was common-law married got a divorce last year. They still had to get a regular-law divorce.

WEIRD that Alaska isn't on the list. Although I'm sure someone has blamed it on the pfd by now. Alas, anyone can marry anyone* here and it's been that way for awhile.

* Anyone who can consent. Sled dogs, polar bears, pet dogs, toasters, and attack macaws can not consent.

In other news, the VisionForum.com domain now appears to be owned by a casino.

I am having the shittiest day ever. That just made it a little bit brighter.

Who is Ryan Short, again?

Former VF Intern, worked in VF customer server for a while, family was friends with the Mantuefels, Father (Richard) was an in-house accountant for VF, a deacon, and played a part in the Jen Epstein sagga (all according to JensGems). Ryan has also stood up for the actions of Bob Renaud, Peter Bradrick, and others that led to DPIAT's threatening to sue everybody involved.

That's all I know.

I know that good timing is a very important part of humor, so this may be the latest LOL ever. But I'd never seen this self-portrait of Gustave Courbet before today. It reminded me so much of JTits, I had to do this:

Forget the timing, I still could laugh at that guy's expense all day long. Excellent, excellent LOL.

Not a law professional in Texas but the only reason NOT to depose is if there was a check written, especially in this case.

Considering how much time and effort it takes to get that many depos lined up, settlement is pretty much the only thing that would make me call off a set of them voluntarily.
