Duggar Howler Injury?

Yes they do still use patching. My daughter wore patches over her glasses up until she was 7. No reputable eye doctor should be recommending surgery as a first line treatment.

My friends son went in for surgery this year. He was 3 and the doctor noticed problems at age 2. The doctor that treated him said that patching is not the recommended treatment any more. They use glasses to try and get the eye to focus. My friend would have happily done patching if that was an option. Her attitude was to give her son a pirate hat and bandana and let him live it up. But, like I said, that was not an option.

I never considered New Mexico to be a place for advanced medicine. It takes 6 months to get in to see a specialist here even with insurance and you have to drive to Albuquerque or Santa Fe.

maybe it's a nasty eye infection? They let kids walk on the kitchen counters then lick batter off them, after all...

They do still use patching. My son wore a patch for 3 years. But he has now moved on to atropine drops. They blur the vision in his good eye and make the lazy eye work harder. The whole point of this treatment is to avoid surgery. He also wears a heavy duty prescription funky pair of glasses. The hope is that all his vision problems will be solved by the time he's a teen.

It could be an infection. My mother suffers from frequent eye-infections and about once a year for a few weeks, she'll have to wear a patch just like that, since even the faintest light will cause excruciating pain.

Josiah looks yummy and fabulous. Honestly, I think he's the hottest Duggar boy. I (a heterosexual woman), want to rescue him and take him home with me and teach him the ways of the world.

Yes, because that's not the slightest bit creepy :?

Any of the guys here wanna take dips on Joy while we're apparently sexualizing underage children?

He seems to have adopted purple as his color; I've seen him in it in quite a few pictures. I like that he's (presumably) excercising some individuality and personal choice.

Sorry for being dense but which is Josiah? I see a purple tie and someone else in a purple shirt.

Joy looks gorgeous in this picture. My suspicions of her spark being quenched have been confirmed though :(

That's gross. He's underage.

I think its just a pirate eyepatch from a costume, that wasnt taken off because Michelle didnt notice or care. It doesnt look like a medical one.

I just bought an eye patch yesterday for my husband who is recovering from retinal detachment surgery. He wears it to give his eye a rest while he's at work. It looks *exactly* like a patch from a pirate costume. lol.

I'd personally rather be poked in the eye than listen to a Quiverfull of violins.

Could be a corneal scratch. That is sometimes patched in kids. I got a corneal abrasion from my cousin throwing sand in my face as a child, and had a patch after I had corneas transplant surgery (unrelated) last year.

Yeah it certainly doesn't look like an ophthalmic patch. Especially not a child's one. They're usually colourful and covered in skulls, spiders, or whatever.

But those would be demonic and immodest!

They no longer treat lazy eye with an eye patch. They use glasses or surgery to treat it now.

They still use eye patches. I see kids with them from time to time. They're usually the stick-on type, but those can be uncomfortable and can irritate the skin, so it's possible it's for lazy eye.

Of course it could also be an injury.

Am I the only person who doesn't have a friend/relative with a lazy eye?

Well, if you consider me a friend, then no. You now have a friend with a lazy eye.

Not all lazy eyes turn in or out very dramatically. Mine wasn't noticed until I was 7, the first time my eyes were examined, because even though my eyes didn't work together, the lazy one didn't turn in often enough to send off a red flag to anyone. Unfortunately, by then, my eyes were already "set" (the brain has a way of compensating) and the treatment was not successful. There was no surgery at that time, or if there was, it was probably way too invasive to bother with a milder case of amblyopia.

He's not underage under Arkansas law. But still....

I noticed that too. How old is he?

I have to say a receding hairline can happen early I have known some that at 15 it started... yes ... high school... something like that happening that early does tend to be genetic.. and it has already happened with at least one older brother ;)

If my seven year old had to wear a patch, I can see using a pirate patch to make it fun or cool.
