The Kody Brown Family

Recommended Posts

The Brown family is a polygamist family featuring Kody, and his four wives- Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn. Altogether, the family has seventeen children. Their claim to fame is the TLC show, Sister Wives that premiered in 2010. The purpose of the show was to shed a more positive light on the polygamist lifestyle than Warren Jeffs and the FDLS Church; the family belongs to Apostolic United Brethren (AUB). Authorities in Utah decided to do an investigation on the Browns and looked into charging the Browns with bigamy. Prior to this, Kody and his three wives (Robyn had not yet married Kody) shared a home in Lehi that was essentially three separate apartments connected by a hallway. Due to the backlash, the family decided to move to Las Vegas, where they had to live in four separate homes, a source of conflict in the family. The first season followed Kody’s courtship and eventual marriage to Robyn Sullivan, a divorced mother of three, and the other wives’ adjustment to their new sister wife. The second season focused on the family’s desire to live in closer proximity to each other, and it was decided they would build four separate homes in a cul-de-sac. The third season of the show is set to premiere in May 2013. Apart from the show, the Browns have written a book, Becoming Sister Wives: The Story of an Unconventional Marriage, own their own custom jewelry site, My SisterWife’s Closet, and sell LivGreen detoxifying products.
