  1. Is anyone else enamored, fascinated, and/or disgusted by family vloggers? There are the notable ones like Bratayley and Shaytards -- sort of the "first" ones to do this -- but it seems like more and more have been cropping up over the past few years. It looks like it has a lot to do with the influx of YouTube sponsorships being handed down, as a lot of these family channels have whole videos that are essentially commercials. I think this topic would have a place on FreeJinger not only for the notoriety of this in general, but also that some of these families are large, are putting their kids in the spotlight, and/or have questionable beliefs. As one might expect, there are a lot of ethical quandaries about privacy and publicly sharing footage of children who are too young to consent, as opposed to this just being part of where social media is headed. From my own personal viewing habits, there are ones that I actually quite like (Life with Beans, This Gathered Nest), ones I only really watch to snark at (The Murrays, The Stauffer Life/Myka Stauffer), and ones that give me an icky feeling (The Epik Life, formerly Epik Brandon Family). Again, those are just ones that I regularly view or keep up with, and I'm interested to see what everyone else thinks about this. (I'm actually really surprised this wasn't already a topic; mods, feel free to move this if there's something I didn't see.)
  2. Is anyone else watching this gem? I am endlessly fascinated. I'm anxiously awaiting Friday night (or more accurately, Saturday morning, when the episode shows up on my Google Play account :P) WeTV page (with clips and episodes!)
  3. Is anyone else watching this on Oxygen? I must say I'm not terribly impressed. The woman who is doing it is pretty dismissive that Maura could have been suicidal, misstated some of James Renner's thoughts (Ie, he DID NOT state that Maura was sexually abused by her dad), and is also dismissive that Maura seemed to be fairly troubled young women. Tonight was the last straw though. They hired a motherfucking psychic to help out! Are you kidding me? I can understand the parent of a missing child hiring a psychic, but not someone who wants to be a responsible investigative journalist. What do others think? Btw, it occurred to several years ago that I've been down the same road that Maura was on when she disappeared. We were on our way to Lincoln, New Hampshire from Vermont were we we to meet up with two of my daughters as we all gathered for my youngest daughter's college graduation.
  4. What Would Yo Do?

Once again another Friday is upon us, and so is that insipid television show What Would You Do? I really can't stand that show. Am I the only one who doesn't like that show? If I found myself in the middle of one of their dumbass setups the only way I'm giving permission for it to be aired on TV is if ABC writes me a check with lots and lots of zeros on it. Otherwise they could pound sand as far as I'm concerned.
  5. US Big Brother 19

I'm starting a thread so that you find citizens of Free Jinger can enjoy the wild claims of BB19 house guest Raven's claims this year. She has gastroparesis and as a result, has a stomach pacemaker. However, her outlandish claims just keep coming. Some of this may actually be legitimate but the legitimate claims get lost in the crazy. She was apparently homeschooled (in Arkansas) and has stated that her GPA was Dance. Her marathon time was 7th place (for women in her age group but what she described was likely a 5k or 10k charity walk/run. See number 10 - can't eat red meat - but can eat hamburger.
  6. I saw this was trending on facebook this morning: It's a pretty bizarre watch, for sure. I just wanted to hear all your thoughts. It's pretty obvious to me this young lady has some mental health issues, but I thought it was a pretty interesting story nonetheless.
  7. Married At First Sight

What does everyone think about Married at First Sight? I kinda find it strange. Especially after seeing the second season I would never do it. That season scared me.
  8. Any Arranged watchers out there? Season 2 begins tonight at 9pm on FYI. There is also a mini series coming on at 8:45 pm featuring the season 1 couples.
  9. this is the original with sub, when I came home I used to watch the version with a narrator . the brit/us version was sever)ely cut but that German version was like this above just with a friendly (towards the participants) narrator.
  10. The infamous Marguerite Perrin episode of Trading Spouses was mentioned in the "Your tv low point" thread. It had been a long time since I had thought of this vat of crazy pants, so I re-watched parts of the video, and read a few blogs about it. One of the more hilarious things I saw tonight in relation to the self-professed God Warrior was this: Anyone who played the old Street Fighter II should get this reference.
  11. This article reminded me of some of our fundie families who have reality shows: https://broadly.vice.com/en_us/article/the-american-nightmare-i-worked-in-reality-tv-and-almost-lost-my-soul?utm_source=broadlyfbus It is crazy how damaging these shows are. I don't think kids should be allowed to do them.
  12. But TLC will remain a "gleefully lowbrow channel" https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/life-after-honey-boo-boo-inside-discoverys-fight-to-grow-up/2016/01/01/df53888c-99cd-11e5-94f0-9eeaff906ef3_story.html ETA: Should this be moved to the "Quiverfull of Snark(or Duggars)"?
  13. Honey Boo Boo back on TV?

Here's one of many links online: http://m.etonline.com/news/175343_mama_june_shannon_and_honey_boo_boo_announce_they_ll_be_returning_to_tv/
  14. Alaskan Bush People

I just discovered this over the weekend; has anyone else seen it? It's about a family in Alaska - dad, mom, and I think there are seven kids, five boys and two girls. Their story is they had built a homestead in Southern Alaska and the government burned it all to the ground because they'd built it on public land. So they bought five acres of land in Northern Alaska, loaded everyone and everything in a van with a small trailer behind it and headed North. They get there with only a couple of weeks to build a home before deep winter sets in. Dad appears to be lazy. He likes telling everyone else what to do, but don't see him getting too involved in the work. Mom is kinda quiet. Doesn't say much in the first show. Various male children ranging in age from 20 to 30. One claims he doesn't bathe until someone asks him to stand downwind. They all appear to be fairly educated, pretty much can carry on a conversation. But they all appear to have adopted not only a strange way of talking/strange accent, but there is a gravelly voice thing going on that even the older daughter, Birdie, has picked up. The menfolk sport varying weird facial hair. And poor Birdie has some rather unfortunate teeth. There is also another daughter, the baby of the family, who appears about 8 or 9 years old. I plan to watch a couple more episodes before making the decision to follow it. I'm afraid the dad is going to get under my skin more than anyone.
  15. So I am pretty excited to hear a new show featuring polygamy is in the works. Kristyn Decker mentioned the new show during her radio show, "Polygamy Uncensored''. (kristyn.srbroadcasting.com/) RIVR Media posted the following on their blog about the upcoming show: Source: rivr.com/news/now-casting-for-escaping-polygamy/92/
  16. Snake salvation on NG

Holy snakes! This series is fascinating. On the episode i started on, Cody, the young preacher with a wife and toddler, lies to his wife that they come before his snake handling. Lovely. Then he goes off on a snake hunt and gets bitten twice by a cottonmouth and refuses to seek medical help. ( of course he made it through, or it might not have made it on TV...) I am interested to see more of this show. Personally, I think these folks are whackadoodles, but I feel that way about most fundamentalists.
  17. Yet another polygamy show - and I'm not complaining lol. starcasm.net/archives/240717 The bios and lots of pics at the link.
  18. New reality show on Nat Geo. Not breaking the link because it's to a newspaper: http://www.tennessean.com/article/20130 ... 15823769=1 There's a video when you click on the link. Text only here:
  19. Sister Wives Blog (sisterwivesblog.blogspot.com) has posted a link to a new show call "Polygamy USA." It begins May 7th. According to National Geographic: (channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/polygamy-usa/videos/building-a-kingdom/) I know I will be DVRing this series. (Also, I was watching HBO's VICE over the weekend and they were "teasing" next weeks episode. It is about the Lost Boys. But I cannot find a link to the preview.) {fixed wording}
  20. Little People, Big World

I guess I didn't realize they were still making specials.
  21. In the past, TLC has gone ahead and either not renewed a show or cancelled it quietly without any announcement or fanfare. Some shows that come to mind are Table for Twelve, One Big Happy Family (which didn't even air all of the episodes), Sextuplets Take New York. They did make the much overdue announcement that Kate plus 8 was not renewed back in August, when they had only 3 episodes left to air. Depending upon what footage TLC currently has, could they just maybe keep the material and turn it into a series of specials some time later on, such as the spring? It might indeed be the best decision TLC makes for the Duggar family. With no show anymore, I don't think Michelle and Jim Bob will try desperately to have more children by any means possible (fertility drugs, adoption). They may try to marry off one of the girls or John David, but even that event could be condensed into a Very Duggar Wedding, part Deux. If TLC decides to continue with a weekly series, I'm convinced that we'll either see Michelle go completely off the deep end due to the miscarriage or her dying in childbirth some day. I wonder if the TLC executives have even considered either of these possibilities. In any case, we have not yet been given a renewal date, but it's never been off the air longer than a couple of months since the weekly series began.
  22. And it has nothing to do with their religion, or their culture. I liked Shadia up until tonight, but can't believe that she married Jeff knowing she was highly allergic to dogs, then waited until after they were married and moving to a new house to insist he have to get rid of Rigley. I'm sorry....but that is just low. The only time I'd give up an animal for anyone would be if my child were deathly allergic and meds didn't work, but would never do that for a boyfriend or spouse. Then again, I wouldn't have dated anyone past the "I'm allergic" or "I'm not really fond of animals in my house/my furniture" phase either. Especially with Rigley being as old as she was......
  23. Flirty Jinger?

Sorry if this was mulled over in an earlier thread, but I was wondering if anyone else caught the shot of Jinger looking like she had been flirting with a guy at the Crocs shop in Israel (at about 14:05): It kind of surprised me that TLC would throw that little clip in there, especially after Boob was all "Me go into protective Daddy mode" at the beach when that guy was talking to Jana/Jessa.
  24. They caved to pressure from the Florida Family Association. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/l ... how-271983
