Meerkats Unite!

Just finished this page tonight. It's from the NatureScapes book.  Am working on the cuckoo clock cat page from the Creative Cats book now.   I  know meerkats aren't really red...but these are.  :my_cool:    Prismacolor  and Winsor & Newton markers.  Just  can't seem to get a photo that accurately reproduces the colors, but I tried. The actual page is better.

My color choices were inspired by the Endless Summer movie poster hanging in our bedroom....also, I just love red.  :my_shy:

I've been excitedly waiting for you to post this one.   I love the one aqua guy off to the side.   What color did you use for the ground?  Love!    I really love that you color things "unnaturally."    I am so stuck in the rut of coloring things "realistically," and I'm trying to break out of that because why not!

Your pages have really inspired me to try different things.

As an aside, I bought a couple packs of cheap gel pens and markers at Walmart the other day because I'd had a bad day and my willpower was nil.  So I HAD to rearrange my marker tub to make room for them, so now I have my huge tub and my "expensive" markers tub.   My husband rolled his eyes as expected and I think there might have been a touch of fear when he saw the "expensive" marker tub is essentially empty, so had TONS of room for additions ;)

The blue guy to the side is the "1 in 10" you're always hearing about.  :kitty-wink:   The light violet ground is "Orchid" by Winsor & Newton.  I LOVE it!  It's one of the markers I bought online from Michael's.  Today we were out and about and I had Mrs. Baby take me to the Michael's store here in town where I proceeded to buy  9 new Prismacolor Premiers and 2 Copics!  The Copic Sketches are Lettuce Green and Light Hydrangea...gorgeous colors. Cost $8.00 a pop, but I deemed the whole haul an early Christmas present!  I'm a lucky girl!

The Prismacolors are: Copenhagen, True, and Light Cerulean blue;  Spring and Grass green; Scarlet Lake, Canary Yellow, and two greys to help me color in the cats in the Creative Cats book.  Am so excited!  It's great to have this blog to share the fun of coloring and buying supplies!  I hope your new gel pens work out great for you.  Thanks for your encouraging words about my eccentric color choices.  I just can't help it!  So glad you  like my type of coloring.

Again, fantastic job, @Tikobaby.  It's beautiful!

Thank you very much for your  kind words, Fascinated!  It's very encouraging when fellow colorists like my pages and great to get compliments on my coloring style. I am trying to do a page with giraffes in the NatureScapes book in a realistic  manner...they are one of my favorite animals...and it looks nice, but I keep having to stop myself from coloring them red and yellow!  I think I'll have to buy another book so I can have red and yellow giraffes with blue tongues. That sounds great to me.

I just had buy another Prismacolor nylon zip case for all my new markers!  I love this blog for getting me back into artistic activities and all the fun of creating, plus being able to buy and collect new art supplies!

Will certainly post my red & yellow giraffes when the time comes!

I have ordered some more gel pens. The Sakura 74 piece Gelly Roll set!  They were $156.00 Cdn, so I fervently pray that I like them!  I ordered a few smaller sets, too. But I'm having storage issues already. I bought a tub sort of thing and some little pencil cases that fit inside, but it already won't close.

I hate to say it, as don't want to sound fundieish, but I love organizing my stuff. I will revisit @Curious' photos and recommendations for that. (Perhaps you could post a photo of your supplies, too?)  I will also check her list of books because I'm not totally enamoured with the three I have.

I love seeing everyone's work. It's a really fun hobby. (My only quibble is that it's supposed to be all zenlike and relaxing, but I'm always stressed and in a frenzy to finish to see result!)

Oh, and, you guys. Tell me about the Copic markers. They are SO expensive!  Are they amazing?

@Tikobaby  Thanks for listing the colors.   I've been being REALLY good about not buying markers because no room, but now that I have room for some of the expensive ones, I think I might order some of them.

I want to try the blick brand dual tip because they are supposed to be artist grade, but are a bit cheaper than the others.  I have a coupon for free shipping, but you have to spend $99 or more, so I'm waiting until I can swing that to order.  Probably mid-Nov or so.

I hope you like the gel pens too.  Let us know what you think about them!

There is no organization for my art supplies.  I have a Prismacolor nylon zip case stuffed with markers, a little plastic food storage thing for the ones that won't fit in the zip case,  (have another case on order...will be here Friday),   and my set of Staedtler fineliners are in the plastic case they came in.  Have 4 coloring books at this point;  Creative Cats, Owls, NatureScapes, and Peacock Designs, all by Creative Haven. Haven't colored anything yet in the Owls or Peacock books.  There are several cool books coming out next year that I saw on Amazon, including Dazzling Dogs, (by the same artist who did Creative Cats), and a book with art deco flavored ancient Egyptian designs which I would buy in an instant if it was available now.  Have always loved ancient Egyptian art and have drawn some of my own designs and colored them years ago, despite not being that great at drawing.  All my art supplies are kept piled in the middle of our bed most of the time since that's where I do my coloring!

I now have 3 Copic Sketch markers...bought them at Michael's at $8.00 apiece. Colors are Lipstick Red, Lettuce Green, and Light Hydrangea.  Just got the last two today so I haven't used them yet, but the red one is fantastic!  Vivid, rich color rolls smoothly off the tip of the brush, which is fine enough at the point to do small areas as long as you have a good feel for the "wetness" of the brush so it  doesn't seep over lines. I also rely on the Staedtlers for very narrow/small areas if I think the Copic will seep too far on the paper.  If they are all like the red one I've used, they are definitely worth the money...but the sets are quite expensive for sure.  So far, I don't care for using the thicker tip on any marker because I like the way the brush tips and fine tips feel much better.  My main markers are the Prismacolor Premiers with brush and fine tips...they are great and more affordable than the Copics.

You're welcome!  I love talking about colors!  Let us know what you think about the  blick  brand markers...am curious about them.

Shit. I guess I need to get the Prismacolors. I'm devastated at the thought. Thanks, @Tikobaby, for that lovely info.  This is so much fun.

I think you'll really like them if you like smooth flow and beautiful colors. They just feel good to use.  Of course, if the time comes that I can afford a big set of Copic Sketch markers, I won't hesitate to grab them to add to my collection!  Coloring is a blast and I'm so glad we have this blog to share our pictures and yak about art supplies!  :my_heart:

You won't regret getting any of the Sakura products, IME.   I love all the Sakura pens I've bought.

I'll have to get another picture of my supplies. I've changed things up a little bit.  I found that my colored pencil tub was too deep and I couldn't get to the colors on the bottom easily so I was using the same few pencils all the time.   I got a wider, shallower tub for them and now the pencils are only 3-4 deep instead of like 12-15 deep.  So it's much better.    That also opened up a tub for my expensive markers ;)

I have a handful of copics and prismacolor markers.  They are wonderful to color with.  What I'm doing is buying colors that I don't have from my billion sets already to fill in "gaps."    I'm basically using @Tikobaby's lists as a guide right now because it gives me a good idea of what the color will look like.   It's sometimes hard to tell just from the cover color because they aren't always accurate.

They are both super smooth and lay down so nicely on the paper.  You won't regret the purchase.  Just make sure you get colors you like/need because having a marker that expensive go unused is just a waste of money you could use on something you'd actually like/use.

Am liking my Winsor & Newton Promarkers a lot  and they are a little less expensive than Prismacolors at Michael's online. Michael's is having some Black Friday sales for various percentages off a total order starting Thursday and I'm going to check them out...maybe I can get a few more markers on sale!

I'm trying to place an order on blick and it's just spinning around on the page where my cart is.  I think they must be getting hit so hard the site can't keep up with it.  That's a great price on the markers, but I need to see what they're going to charge for shipping.  Also have an order pending in my Michael's cart that I might get later when their 30% off sale goes into effect.

Wouldn’t it be nice if she actually told her readers how this works in her house

Well, she didn’t say each child gets to do all the activities. They could all be in church groups and home school co-op (no individual activities, so easy to coordinate), music lessons could well be with a teacher coming into their home, then one kid doing a sport, one kid in choir, “social events” could be anything that only happens once a year - and voilà, she wouldn’t have technically lied in her post, but makes it sound a lot more than it actually is for each individual child.

Last I checked, Driscoll doesn't do repentnance. Thatʻs for other people.

Well good luck with that.  Driscoll isn't the repenting type.  That's for beta men; he's clearly an alpha, in an "I'm a legend in my own mind" kinda way.
