A YouTube Driven Trip Down Memory Lane
So after my viewing of the latest Rodriquii video I, as I am prone to doing, surfed YouTube. I left one of my surfing finds in the Taylor Swift thread. (Taylor and Def Lepard). Sadly I watched more than one of those videos and am working to clear my mind of the atrocity that as Taylor & Def Lep singing Pour Some Sugar on Me. Ummm part of this collaboration relies on autotune and the other part came up without it and is/was produced by Mutt Lange who is a stickler. (I spared you that video). I'll aslo tell you I've seen Def Lep in concert 2 or 3 times back in the day. Including when they performed in the round (square stage, 4 front rows, it was amazing)
So in clearing my mind that distaster I stumbled across Extreme. More Than Words. I love this song. But every time I hear it I think of it being in rotation at the time on the soft rock station and played at work. I remember someone I worked with at the time saying 'oh I love this song.' Followed by my thinking, 'oh honey, some of the rest of the stuff on the album (Pornografiti) and their first (Extreme) would curl your hair without a perm.
That incident also reminds me of another metal song that played in the world of soft rock at the time. Silent Lucidity by Queensryche. (technically they're considered progressive metal but it's easier not to have to explain all the subcategories). It's off their Empire album. I rather wore out my cassette of their concept album (tells a story beginning to end) Operation Mind Crime. Which fell into the too deep for mainstream consumption. (By the way, I do know who killed sister mary).
