'Tropical World' elephants (with background, of course)

I liked this picture a lot. But, as usual, I decided to do the background, this time in black.  Black markers (Prismacolour in this case) are difficult little buggers.  It is almost impossible to stay in the lines and, when one goes over there is zero forgiveness.  Upshot is that I love it from a distance but it looks like crap up close. Give me your thoughts, please. My sensitive days on FJ are, I think, largely behind me, so I'm up for critiques.  (It looked great before and I seriously don't

Busy Work

My husband and I tried to figure out how long this took. We don't know, but it's more than twenty hours. It's just full of teeny tiny things. I love my markers, by the way!  Once again, the photo doesn't show it well, though I did take it outside. If I were to do this again, and I assure you I wouldn't, I would do it in more minimal colours and leave some white spaces I think.  This whole page was more an excercise in 'tapping' than colouring! But, I am a masochist apparently, because I dec

Welcome to FJ Colorists Unite

Welcome to the new Free Jinger blog by members for members.   We have a pretty enthusiastic group of colorists here on FJ and after seeing the interest in coloring and talking to a few members, I decided to start this blog for members to post on rather than putting their own coloring projects in comments on my (mostly) coloring blog or various threads where they may get lost. This blog is for anyone that colors to post their finished pages, works-in-progress, tips, ask for help or really anythi

A Creative Cat with Mini Elephants.

This one took me a few days to do but it was worth it.  It is from the Creative Cats book by Creative Haven, I used Marco Raffine 72 count fine art pencils, they are a low end set for artists but I found them great for colouring in. I done the elephants with Derwent metallic pencils.

Pampered Pets & Toys!

Here's my latest from Pampered Pets. I love that book!  This is the page upon which my Copic Lipstick Red and a W&N ProMarker Cobalt Blue, both brand new, malfunctioned and spat excess ink onto the page. I whined loudly about this on my profile page in a status update.  I was asked to post both the original page with the ink blots and the edited version for comparison so this is the edited one and I'll post the one showing the ink blots on my profile page.  Thank goodness for photo editing!

Royal Cat/Pampered Pets

Here's my latest page. From Pampered Pets again.  That book is fantastic and I've already started another page.  Copic Sketch, Prismacolor, Blick, and Copic Ciao markers and Winsor & Newton ProMarkers.  For those interested, I am also going to post the page before editing on my profile page so you can compare them.

Peacock Landscape Finished!

Here's a rare example of me trying to color a bit more realistically than usual!  I like the way my peacock turned out.    Copics and Prismas to color and it's from the Peacock Designs book by Creative Haven.  The real page looks better than the photo, but you all know how that goes.

I do have a life, I swear!

I was embarrassed by my bombardment of this blog so I didn't post this after I completed it about a week ago. But now I'm in Florida and am having wine with my husband and thought, oh, what the hell. It's from the Secret Garden Artist's Edition again.  I really love colouring these pages. They are so THICK! I love the bird and his house but the squirrel looks like crap.

To background or not to background? That is the question.

This is my most recent page. I do like this one quite a lot.   I seem to have difficulty leaving backgrounds white.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But there's no going back, regardless, right?   Here's a side-by-side of before and after (I think both are really pretty): Here's another recent one.  I don't like the final page, I should have chosen a different colour for the centre I think. And, lastly, I posted this one in January I think, and it is

My first effort

Hi everyone! Here is my first attempt. Well, first attempt in over 16 years, when I used to color once in awhile in some of the Dover and Bellepheron books, and those big Daisy Art (?? Doodle Art ??) art posters they used to have in the drug stores. It's from the Creative Haven Steampunk Fashions Coloring Book. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. I'm not thrilled with all of the color choices I made, but for the most part I like it. I was particularly pleased with how all of the leather acce

Curious Creatures Are Back!

We've had company and have also been going every day to help our friend who's recovering at home from a knee replacement so this page has taken a LONG time to finish!  Could only work on it late at night, a little at a time due to being so tired.  But it's finally completed so here it is....let me know what you all think!

My Pretty Pony

Here's my first completed page from the Art Nouveau book.  Colored with Prismas, Copics, and Winsor & Newton Promarkers.  Couldn't take the photo of the page outside since it's raining and there's no good light so I gave it a try indoors again.  Am clipping my coloring pages to an artist's tote board I bought from Amazon and it really is helpful for support while coloring lying in bed. I have the day off and am now working on pages from the insect book and Curious Creatures!

Curious Creatures with Mech Tree and Robots

Finally got to use my Winsor & Newton ProMarkers yesterday, only used them with this picture. I love them. There is a few patches on the pic and it isn't as smooth a finish as I had hoped for but I will have lots of fun practising with them. Ended up taking 7 photos and this was the best one of the lot, usual disclaimer, it looks much better and more vibrant in real life.

I Am Still The Fun Killer!

@Furious /Curious has been pestering me to post this, and I finally caved. The fact that I enjoy coloring pretty things doesn't mean I have given up on Killing all the Fun. You should all still quake in fear at the mere mention of my name. Grr. Anyway, I got 4 coloring books and a nice set of colored pencils in my Solstice swag. This image is actually the second one I did. I'll post the first one later, if Curious makes me. This comes from the Artist's Edition of

It's 7:30 in the morning

So why not post my latest creation! I just finished this one up last night.  I've been ridiculously busy the past week or two, which is why I haven't had time to color.  But last night, I put on The Bachelor, and finished this page and got a start on another page!   This is from Enchanted Forest, using my prismacolor scholar pencils.

When Pigs Fly...

Haven't posted one for awhile...so much going on around here.  Here's my latest from Curious Creatures. I love the cars and planes!  Am now working on one from the Owl book.

Tricycle Cats/Pampered Pets

Here's my latest completed page from the Pampered Pets book.  This is unedited except for cropping and adjusting exposure/saturation/temp. for the overall photo so it matches the original page. Prismacolor Premier brush tip marker colors are:  Spanish Orange, Parma Violet, Emerald, Canary Yellow, Goldenrod, Sienna Brown, True Blue, Pink.  Copic Sketch marker colors are: Lipstick Red, Lettuce Green, Yellowish-Green, Chrome Orange, Baby Blue, Lightning Yellow. Winsor & Newton ProMarker colors

Curious Quails...and a Hedgehog!

Finished this one the other day. Sorry for the less than great photo...took it inside and the light is not even.  From Curious Creatures, of course!  Copic Sketch & Prisma markers, Winsor & Newton Promarkers, and Staedtler fineliners.  Working on one from Pampered Pets right now!

Two Travelling Cats!

Here's my latest...finally got it completed.  I really like the way it turned out and think it's one of my favorites.  Everyone probably knows that this one is from the Creative Cats book by Creative Haven.     Colored with Prismacolor & Copic Sketch markers, Winsor & Newton ProMarkers, and Staedtler triplus fineliners.   I just received a new coloring book called Fantastic Animals and am trying to decide what the next project will be.

Lost Ocean 'greyscwhale'

Well, I did indeed finish this guy last night in the dark, with the aid of my iPhone light. I am brilliant for thinking of doing that, and I am ridiculous for actually doing that. I checked him out just now and have declared him fit for presentation. I like him.

Mr. F. did a colour! And I'm pissed!

He's a better cook.  He's a better golfer.  And now he's a better colourist, too!  And this is his first effort! He has a more relaxed attitude than I do with regards to staying inside the lines.  (Case in point, I am currently employing a fucking magnifying glass in a futile attempt to achieve perfection. I mean, mine just looks so anal!) His style suits this picture, though, as this artist is annoyingly negligent about actually defining outlines!  I find this book (Fantastic Cities) a bit of a

Space Cats & Other Oddities

Here's another page from my current obsession, Curious Creatures by Creative Haven. I like all of the odd little creatures, but my favorites are the two kitties in the spaceships/flying saucers!  Prismas, Copics, and W&N ProMarkers...as usual.  Have another page already finished and just started a new one...obsession!    Sorry I had to take the photo indoors so it's not as bright and vivid as it looks in person.

Meerkats Unite!

Just finished this page tonight. It's from the NatureScapes book.  Am working on the cuckoo clock cat page from the Creative Cats book now.   I  know meerkats aren't really red...but these are.      Prismacolor  and Winsor & Newton markers.  Just  can't seem to get a photo that accurately reproduces the colors, but I tried. The actual page is better.
